It could be the oscillation of the frequency crystal that hampers catastrophic meltdown of the mechanism.

It does. You just have to place your shots well and not fire it like it won't matter. Good SCR users will make sure that each shot counts.

Gravity isn't a force so much as a curvature of spacetime. The light is travelling in a straight line, but space has been curved in onto itself. Proving this during an eclipse earned Einstein a Nobel Prize, and made him a household name since he had effectively disproved Newton's model of gravity.

The recoil is the result the of the blast being focused into the aperture. Excess heat from the nuclear reaction is then diverted into the cooling array.

You guys are all wrong.
Due to the immense power of the beam produced, it's impractical to produce a constant beam due to the rapid heat buildup (unlike the standard laser rifle, which produces a much weaker, but steady beam).
To remedy this, Amarrian designers used an oscillating mechanism to cut the beam into single shots for the assault variant and a buildup effect for the standard model. This has two benefits: the intended delayed heat buildup, plus more control over the shots fired.

First of light is both a particle of mass and a massless wave, at the same time!
Now when you fire the scrambler you are firing short pules of light, now each pulse will contain maybe 30-40 waves, this creates a vibrational frequency to the gun, this is kicked up by guns natrual resonnance, boom recoil bynthe truckload!

Photons are neither matter nor do they have mass. They are massless particles, this is why they can travel at c, which is the speed of light in vacuum (~300,000 km/s). However, they do have momentum, which causes phenomena like radiation pressure, which is exploited by solar sails.
It also means that if you had a powerful enough laser cannon, you could actually use it as a propulsion system on a spacecraft. However, due to the incredibly tiny amount of force that photon momentum produces per energy unit (~1 Newton per three hundred megawatts!), this requires insane amounts of energy density for any practical application.
It's the sort of thing that would probably require an antimatter-burning reactor, at which point you'd really build an AM engine for your spacecraft instead since this would provide far superior performance and fuel efficiency- the latter is particularly critical for the incredibly mass-sensitive design of spacecraft (you must haul every bit of fuel/propellant for your trip, even the return leg, assuming no fuel stops).
Cat Merc wrote:That doesn't sound right... Isn't the reason that photons can travel at the speed of light is because they have no mass?
This is mostly correct. As far as I know, photons are considered to have zero rest mass, which is effectively impossible to determine since it's impossible to make photons stop to measure whether or not they have mass. The "mostly" is because of lolEinstein and lolrelativity, 90% of which goes above my head (practical application of some of the mathematics involved is easy (and happens to entertain me)).
Cat Merc wrote:But even so, it would take HUUUUUUGE amounts of light to actually produce any form of noticable recoil.
This is definitely correct. It takes approximately 300 megawatts of electrical energy with an impossible 100% efficient energy-to-light conversion in a laser engine to produce 1 Newton of thrust.
ONE NEWTON. For THREE. HUNDRED. MEGAWATTS.
As I noted above, the energy density required for any kind of practical method of using this for a propulsion system would be so high as to require an antimatter powerplant, at which point it's not much of a leap to instead build an antimatter rocket engine for your spacecraft instead. |

As for real science, photons do have momentum.
We can even make an estimate of the number of photons by looking at the recoil of the SR, making some guess and MATH!
If the SR was in space and fired a single shot I estimate that it would fly backwards at around 2 m/s. Lets us assume the SR weights 4 kg (the same as a loaded M16).
So the change in kinetic energy is 0.5 * m * v * v = 8 J.
The SR fires yellow shots so the wavelength of the light produced would be around 580 nm (assuming it is all one wavelength).
The energy of N photons is N * h * c / ++. So the number of photons, N = E * ++ / ( h * c ) = 2.3 * 10^19.
For comparison, red laser pointers are usually a few mWatts in power. The SR fires a shot every 84 ms so it's power is around 94 Watts. So one SR is worth about 10,000 laser pointers.

The theory of relativity states that matter cannot travel through space FASTER than the speed of light. Going the speed of light is not going faster, so, therefore, technically, humans could, theoretically go as fast as a photon. A black hole has gravity so powerful that nothing, not even light, with it's infinite momentum, can escape. The point of no return is called the event horizon and, as I said, it is the point at which no object can escape.
About subatomic particles, you cannot use the same laws of physics as with the atomic or visual world. You get into quantum physics, and quantum mechanics.
And all of this goes out the window if you throw in chaos theory.

The recoil was always comparable to that of an unskilled AR without much kick someone made a comparison vid a while ago. I for myself find the AsCR pretty accurate for ist DPS and Range. |

I don't think infinite energy is possible, so no mass?

Again, it IS possible to have infinite energy... in theory. But in theory there is no difference between theory and practice, but in practice there is. In order to get anywhere near infinite energy, you'd need... something that doesn't really exist... not in a form we can use: dark matter. That being said, the top theory on photons is no mass.
