Known as the Tactical Assault Light Operator Suit (TALOS), the USA is developing its own dropsuit.
http://www.cnn.com/video/data/2.0/video/us/2013/11/05/erin-pkg-starr-idea-iron-man-suit.cnn.html (Link for verification or just Google it)
Some of its key features
- It repels bullets (I'm guessing through armor plating, not shields) - It will have exoskeleton like components to augment the soldiers strength - It will have a HUD in the enclosed helmet - HUD will connect to a "TACNET"
Personally it isn't shiny or gold enough for my tastes, but baby steps. Hey we already have lasers and rail gun tech, the US can go either the route of the Amarr (PLEASE GOD) or the Caldari.

Currently everyone is Minmatar.
I know the US is working on and may have deployed a few laser systems on warships (the Airborne Laser - ABL was a bust). I know the US is also working on rail gun technology as well. The Navy possesses a functioning rail gun, but is looking how to miniaturize it to place on ships.

If you're talking about the exoskeletons that they are using for cargo movement and movement of people in nursing homes, I've seen it and it is quite impressive.
As far as the link I posted, the exoskeleton that the man uses to punch the plank is not TALOS, it is an example of the technologies that will be incorporated into the suit. I believe TALOS is the CGI rendering that is shown in the beginning, as of now I don't think there is a prototype of the actual suit.

If the US has announced it to the public then they already have multiple versions up and running. What we perceive as newly developed military tech is really just stuff they already perfected, and is just a ploy to let our enemies and allies know what we could deploy at a seconds notice. Any item that is disclosed to the public is stuff that is usually at least 15 years old.

it's sad to say that in the future the middle-east will be a sand-pit, you just can't compete with the technology. Instead of an arms-race we're going to witness a 'tech-race' until somebody gets mad and drops a nuke.
It's obvious America just wants to invade and rule every country they can whom is weaker than that and one day, purely through fire-power, money, man-power and resources they will enslave people in LDCs and use them solely to gather resources to pump into America's economy.
Right now all they have are crappy excuses to steal resources but soon they'll be able to do what they want.
It will happen. Unless wars start to turn very nuclear/biological/atomic. I know other countries won't just sit down, bend over and let America have their way like they want to.
Terrorising the terrorists, Team America: World Police.
The only reason things like this exist is to wage war and feel like the bigger man. If you let a force become too big, soon it will be too late!
I could be talking out of my ass but we are due some very nasty wars in the future and I can see the whole planet being blown into oblivion.

I'm convinced there is a lab buried under the entirety of Japan filled with giant mechs, genetically engineered monsters, and scantily clad women chasing after a socially awkward heterophobic teenage scientist.

Shields may soon become a reality as well. A little over a month ago, scientists developed a new form of matter known as solid light. Basically, they were able to slow down the motion of the photons enough to form "photonic molecules" that would bind together like actual molecules, creating a material made entirely of light.
