Hey we already have lasers and rail gun tech, the US can go either the route of the Amarr (PLEASE GOD) or the Caldari. The whole western world is working on that sht, it begs the question why?
Because the Cold War never ended.

calvin b wrote:This has been in development for at least 5 years. This project is part of many that the US has been developing to aid those who loose limbs in combat. DARPA is the brains behind this and many other black op projects. Look no further than the new DDX destroyer that just set sail. America realizes its not brunt power that will win the next war, it is precise surgical strikes with advance technology that will be the winner of future combat. If everyone knew what they have been working on for the last 10 years they would have a different thought on America and its true dominance in warfare.
Think of it like this, China just launched its first nuclear sub capable of striking America and killing 12 million or more people with nuclear weapons. America just launched the DDX destroyer that has the capability to level all of China's east coast without the use of nuclear weapons. There is a reason America has been spending trillions on defense and we on average a year spend more than the next 10 countries combined.
If you really want your skin to crawl look up what DARPA has been doing with robotic insects and birds.
Still waiting on the Rods from God to become reality. All the power and destruction of a nuke with out any fallout.
DARPA is also responsable for some of the best things (the internet not al gore)and the worst (agent orange, vx, semisentient drones)
Also idk if anyone's mentioned it yet but the Germans have lazors that cut through 1.5 of steel at a hella long range, forgot the actual distance. Plans to mount the system on tanks.

You mean less than all the nukes tested though out the 50s through 70s? They're not going to be akin to meteorites, more like falling debri from space. Terminal velocity can only do so much. Now I'd agree with you and be alarmed if they were made to accelerate past TV, but it's all free fall. That's why they gotta be telephone pole sized to achieve results.

The Robot Devil wrote:I had to pop bubbles but I doubt that any personal sized suits will be deployed anytime soon. The amount of power that it would take to run the suit cannot be contained within the suit or attached to the suit. They could use a large power cable but a mobile power plant is unlikely.
To piggy back what the robot said; the only delay with mech suits is the powet source, there is currently nothing small enough or quiet enough to provide power for military grade mechs. But who knows what the next half decade will hold for such ideas.

Advancements and testing must have went well for the R and D department. They always tell you news that are years late as if they just started when they've been working on this for so long. I know this is a typical thing to say, but the SR-71 blackbird is a great example of this.
Skunk Works was the greatest shadow R and D the world has seen to this point (or knows about at least)
Also, the Blackbird was an amazing machine, wish its successor, the Aurora Project, was more opaque than just whispers in the internet.

Actually check CNN, it's been in the news that Lockheed Martin is currently working on the SR-72.
Been announced for only 5 days but omg yes! http://www.lockheedmartin.com/us/news/features/2013/sr-72.html
