All this angst comes from the fact that our brains are wired to react more strongly to loss than gain.

CCP introduced loss two ways, first by implying 3x Passive Active points and letting that impression last for days before killing it, second by the specter of failing to collect all of the prize.

The potential failure to collect the whole prize is intensified if you are running boosters, and it's the greatest if you are running the most expensive booster. It doesn't matter if all of this prize is free, it only matters to our risk averse brains that we might lose out on a portion of it.

The fact that we measure ourselves against each other and are rather competitive boosts the feeling of loss. You don't want to admit that you failed to cap out when your competitors did.

Yes the prize is free, but it is presented in such a way as to frame it as a potential loss.

So it is not surprising that people the complaining. It's not childishness, it's simply human nature and CCP could have mitigated part of it.

You could just AFK no matter what CCP does. So this event changes nothing that isn't already done. How 'bout you play the game, or don't? AFKing gets you nothing. You aren't gathering SP to sell your character, so I'd imagine you're gathering SP to play later. Why not just play now?

Because I'm not going to play 30 hour a week. I play to hit the normal cap but this is rediculus.

Sorry that I was wrong. I thought they understood the rage that came from the last triple. My stand point comes from the fact that I buy a booster, if I don't cap out I get the feeling of losing money if I'm not getting all that sp. Thats a bad feeling. The July event was great, it was a true triple event, everything tripled, it didn't take additional hour over the standard cap to reach and all were happy. The removal only removes an additional benefit to those actively playing not the afk minority of the game.

The game makes you play enough to cap about, about as much as a part time job. The grind effect is something we all want to see eliminated, whether is through rollover sp or some other system. CCP has a ways to go to make this grind feeling go away, I for one don't even want to have to think about a cap again, if I'm not on, it will be there when I get back.

Okay, so the legitimate players who don't AFK have to play around 2x as much as normal (or more, depending on how many WP they earn) to hit the cap this week, just so the people who AFK are "punished" by having to AFK for 3x as long?

Do you really think AFKers are just sitting at their PS3 watching the killfeed or something? This just means they have to deal with the minor inconvenience of queueing themselves into battles and rubberbanding in the MCC for two days more while doing whatever else they do when they AFK. MAYBE they won't be able to AFK a second or third alt due to the time constraint, but only the most dedicated players would grind out a second or third alt actively under the current tripling system, because we're talking 18ish hours of game time here, per character, and only if you manage to earn 2k-3k WP with each character every game.

Or I could just AFK

Once again they somehow managed to make a SP event a massive grind. Instead of just triple all active SP they've only tripled the 1 WP = 1 SP part.

For information, there's two parts to active SP:

1: There's the 1 WP = 1 SP part as outlined above. This part will be tripled.

2: Then there's the 1 second in battle = 5 SP part. This part will NOT be tripled, and funnily enough this part is where the majority of your active SP comes from.

When does CCP learn from their mistakes?
