With full sniping proficiency, 3 complex damage mods, fully charged proto sniper rifle (less zoom!) and 1 reload, you can take down everyone in 4 charged hits! Of course you also need a proto logi suit to fit it. I think sniper rifles are underpowered. It's crazy to see how much SP and ISK you have to sink into sniping, but still need 4 shots to kill one infantry. With a tactical proto sniping rifle, you need to land 8 shots, which takes at least 16 seconds ang gives anyone plenty of time to run (or even waddle) for cover. Proto sniping rifles need a boost!
4 shots to kill one infantry. I assume you are talking about hitting proto bears in their pointless OP suits. Heavies are bad enough already.
Sniper rifles are fine as they are to be honest, although I will always support any advantages we can get for them |

hmm, my least favorite thing is being Thale'd.
I was so angry yesterday I spent all my night driving around on the redline with a proto scanner trying to seek and destroy.
Half the time I just don't find the sniper no matter how hard I look.
What are your sniper hunter methods?
One thing I noticed, that occasionally if you zoom all the way in, you can see nanohive globes on the deployment map. That is a fun minigame.
If I could see muzzleflare from that as well (am going to thoroughly investigate tonight), I may have the answer. It is harder to see in the redline though.
Sorry snipers for picking on you, but you got it good with no killcam

I actually started sniping to kill snipers ...the irony ... But is not hard to learn the favorite places of camping Snipers, is only few optimal places in each map. |

Mine is using the last kill location and just using my snipers scope to scan them out. Alot of snipers think that the scout suit is good for nothing but my ALT, named after The end(MGS3), prays on these poor suckers by counter sniping them. For this to work I only need one thing and that's the hit indicator telling me from which general direction I was shot from. After that it's a simple matter of peek-a-boo. |

As soon as I'm killed by one, I rage a little, then spawn in my fatty suit with that BPO sniper and a couple complex damage mods. I then sit out in the open and do sweeps of the hills and towers. I usually find them, and I usually 1HKO them because most snipers are bad and don't use heavy suits

I utilize a combination of methods learned from Rangers and Marines - generally, you're not trying to blend into your environment. Let me explain a bit better...
Think about a deer in the forest. Does a deer match anything in that forest, color-wise? No, so how does it remain concealed? Silhouette. By destroying the shape of your body or dampening it you can be more effective at remaining hidden. This applies in Dust to a degree as clinging to walls where there are lots of piping/objects will be much better concealment than sitting at the top of a mountain.
Nanohives should be placed -AT LEAST- thirty to fifty meters away behind cover. Your firing lane should only be as large as necessary, you don't need to see the entire map if the only objective they have is Echo, so utilize the surrounding terrain to shield yourself from the other directions as much as possible.
Only fire once and only fire for a kill-shot. This will significantly reduce the likeliness of an enemy being able to triangulate where you based on two significant factors: A.) The distance shown in the kill feed is exactly where you are and they can weigh that against where they were at the time with factor B.) Which is the red UI that appears when you've been hit from a certain direction. When that shows, they have at the very least a general idea of where you are.
Now, it might be considered "kill stealing" but I try to only land the final shot against a target who's already engaged in combat with another player as he's focused on them and will probably not be paying attention to where the shot came from. Head shots are also great for this because you instantly go monochrome and it's even harder to find where the shot came from when you're clone has been instantly terminated.
Snipers in obvious locations (on top of buildings, commonly used spots) will many times stay in those spots habitually and refer to them frequently, rather than finding new spots. A sniper who KNOWS he's been seen or has strong suspicion of such should move locations when and if necessary.
Lastly, communication is everything. A sniper is only as good as the people he's guarding and vice versa. If you're witnessing 6 v 6 combat, a sniper needs to be able to relay information to his team so that they are aware of flanking shotgunners or incoming reinforcements and be able to make snap decision on target prioritization from highest to lowest, loosely associated with this order:
- Logistics, for their repair capabilities. - Squad Leaders, as indicated by their chevron as they are only able to call in orbitals if they're alive and can see what's going on. - Support players, like Mass Drivers and Laser Rifles due to their niche roles. - Scouts, because they're easy to dispatch and if left unchecked are hard to put down. - Heavies, because of their sheer firepower and damage absorption. - All other suitable targets.
Now that you know how to think like a sniper, you know how to counter act them. A few basic tips to aid in this though:
- When a friendly nearby takes sudden, significant damage, look for the smoke trail left by the round. - When dying by a sniper, consider where you died and the range at which the shot was made - then estimate a circular range around your death zone at that range. - A sniper rifle is only good if it can land a shot. Put as much cover between you and it as possible. - If you cannot provide yourself sufficient cover, utilizing a fast moving vehicle is your bread and butter. - Sometimes they may be in the red line, in this case your best bet is to counter-snipe or inform friendly snipers of their position. |

Are you talking about:
Quote:close range snipers: snipers on the frontlines or hidden a few yards away from an objective saving objectives from an enemy hack used to the heat of battle showing no hesitation to kill on sight does not waste bullets and master close range snipers are extremely rare like ghosts they kill and kill and kill without error
I am sure, master wordsmith and forum champion of close ranged sniping, sir ravenwing would give you a lesson.

if it's a thale I look deep deep deep in the red line, so deep the rendering rarely works.
9 times out of 10 he's sitting there, give my sniper rifle a long range scanner and I'll find that sniper for you. |

Banning Hammer wrote:Moving around the battlefield picking targets of opportunity, is a genuine way of Sniping. The current Yo-Yo effect of the Scope makes this nearly impossible to do effectively, and is sad, because nothing is more spectacular than seeing a good sniper Dynamically sniping at mid-range. Now that we have this wonderful aim-assist-bot, can you remove the Yo-Yo effect from the Scope ? please ? I have a guide for this: Fox Guide: Marksman, Taking Sniper to the next level Unfortunately it got locked for inactivity (despite being edited two weeks ago) so I canGÇÖt edit it to update it when there are changes. This makes me sad.
Rattati, is there any chance you could unlock my guide? I promise to be carful not to let it fall to page 17 again. |

I killed him with the second. There's currently a problem with sniping hit detection. You see a blue flare, but the shot does no damage. I've heard from somebody testing this and apparently it occurs with ca. 15% of the shots. I see it happen all the time.
This really needs to be fixed - sniping is hard enough as it is! |

I'd like to see a more hard-core sniper rifle: more zoom, MORE SWAY, only one bullet. But if you manage to hit someone, it's pretty sure that he'll wake up in the CRU.

That's ok - they can sit in the redline. My newest passion is a Dragonfly fit with scanner and shotgun - costs me 2k ISK, and I get a lot of kills. I killed 3 snipers in 5 seconds with 4 shots in the redline the other day, and got out alive. Please, stay in the redline so I can call you all! |

Another thing you have going against you, and something I LOVE to take advantage of is when red-line sniping if you snipe a sniper he'll most always try to counter snipe. The thing I love about it is how when trying to revenge snipe people tend to get a bit careless and become predicable kills. Especially when you know which spots are spots you can be found in.
That aside I freggin love my gallente scout G-1 series(the ADV racial variant)+x2 enhanced profiles dampner. Come at me bro if you can find me bro. Also have my scramble pistol operation maxed out for CQC lolz against people who rush. |
