Yep, I love when I get an orbital in a 3 man squad, me an my gunners. Far from a 1 kill every 15 minutes. What is your usual pub games scores by the way guys?
I usually end up with something like 7-0 when playing solo. sometime less sometime more. Best was something like 12-3-0 if I remember. |

Me and snugz had an 12/0 14/0 < Snugz match. I think it was just us two that game though, would've been nice if NG was there. Or GB. Or Hunter. |

That would be really fun haha, and DS squads are useful in the sense that if someone else gets hit with a FG, all the other pilots obviously know as well and can get out of the area without even being hit by the FG in the first place |

Dumb fire missiles make extremely poor air-to-air weapons. it's fun to see the explosions when they auto-detonate at their max range, but pretty doesn't equal effective. With the coming finite ammo it will be silly to even attempt it.
CCP will have to add another turret type or really buff the blaster range if dropship dogfights are going to happen. Perhaps an air-to-air lock-on missile that has high speed and short range (not that I want to encourage dropships to fight amongst themselves).

Our main focus this time around was air to air combat and tank stomping. We realized that by bringing out 4-5 Dropships, it makes enemy feel left out, and they decide to call in Dropships hoping to be accepted to the group.... only to end up being chased the entire match. |

I'd have to completely disagree with the idea that missiles make extremely poor air-to-air weapons, they are the most effective and accurate weapon you can possibly put on your DS (if you're using XT-Accelerated's), however if by "dumb" you mean the ones that fire in 3's then yes i would agree that they are practically useless, but in dogfights the XT-Accelerated is basically your best bet if you want to win. When someone tries to use a blaster on me i just laugh. |

Impressive, great teamwork.
But I think what this shows most of all is how pathetic the dropship's (or any small turret's) AV capability is. So, here's a fix I'd like to see: remove the -50% vehicle damage done by small rails. Given that rails are a pain to aim at small moving targets (ie, infantry), they will almost exclusively be effective and used to AV purposes. Also, here's my ideas and roles for all the turret types:
Missiles: Good against infantry and vehicle, though not excelling at either.
Hybrid: -Blaster: close range, high damage vs infantry, slightly strong to shield -Rail: long range, high damage but needs pinpoint accuracy, good for large targets/ AV, slightly strong to shield/
Not released: Projectile -AutoCannon: similar to blaster, very strong to armour -Artillery shell: similar to rail, very strong to armour
Laser -Pulse: similar to blaster/AC, no ammo but heats up very quickly, very strong to shield -Beam: Charged beam like the scrambler (able to be held) or assault forge gun (cannot be held), perhaps given a duration to sweep from target to target?; long range, no ammo, quick heat build up, very strong to shield |

Lol that's a lot what my menu looks like as well, except i also have a "XT Commander Logi DS" that's basically a fully shield extender tanked Eryx with 2 XT-Fragmented's on the sides. It has 4,620 Shield and 1,000 Armor, it's basically the DS that can't really be taken down except only by a highly accurate railgun redline sniper with a proto railgun |

It's the best turret available, but it's still a very poor choice.
I'm guessing there were 90% misses in the first two minutes of the dogfight, simply because slow moving rockets fired from a moving platform at a moving target at mid to long range involves as much luck as skill.
I'm not aware of any unguided a2a missiles in use today, though fighters do still sport guns. |

Oh yeah you have to do it with an organised squad or it doesn't work. And one single DS can cover two squads if the pilot is quick enough, skilled enough, and ballsy enough. This makes me sad. I understand that doing something like this with blueberries is a bad idea and all vehicle drivers/pilots agree, but why does it have to be that way? I'm sure they can develop some sort of system that makes it clearly obvious for blueberries what the pilot wants them to do. |

While i do agree that right now our only good choice is those Accelerated's, and that there should really be more to chose from, Skill is actually pretty much 100% needed in leading the shots, and only a very little is actually luck. Since every shot fired from my DS is consistantly the same rate of speed, over-time in using it I have learned how to effectively lead the shots on moving dropships, and I can now say that I can confidently take out nearly any dropship that wants to try to run away from me, because i know how to keep landing the shots into their back-side even while they are dropping from the sky trying to escape. It's a lot more exciting that way, too. |

I remember blam mentioning trying to make some form of lock on turrets, but hopefully we'll have countermeasures before they come in, otherwise dogfights will come down to who has the highest DPS. And as serimous said with sufficent practice you can get a good idea of where that missile will go. |
