Yeah, I agree with you there serimous, we need more condor squads out there, dropship squads are fun to fly with and against. O_O there's an idea, get 2 dropship squads and que on opposite sides of a merc battle, aerial brawl! |

With the coming finite ammo it will be silly to even attempt it.
CCP will have to add another turret type or really buff the blaster range if dropship dogfights are going to happen. Perhaps an air-to-air lock-on missile that has high speed and short range (not that I want to encourage dropships to fight amongst themselves).
I'd have to completely disagree with the idea that missiles make extremely poor air-to-air weapons, they are the most effective and accurate weapon you can possibly put on your DS (if you're using XT-Accelerated's), however if by "dumb" you mean the ones that fire in 3's then yes i would agree that they are practically useless, but in dogfights the XT-Accelerated is basically your best bet if you want to win. When someone tries to use a blaster on me i just laugh. It's the best turret available, but it's still a very poor choice. I'm guessing there were 90% misses in the first two minutes of the dogfight, simply because slow moving rockets fired from a moving platform at a moving target at mid to long range involves as much luck as skill. I'm not aware of any unguided a2a missiles in use today, though fighters do still sport guns. While i do agree that right now our only good choice is those Accelerated's, and that there should really be more to chose from, Skill is actually pretty much 100% needed in leading the shots, and only a very little is actually luck. Since every shot fired from my DS is consistantly the same rate of speed, over-time in using it I have learned how to effectively lead the shots on moving dropships, and I can now say that I can confidently take out nearly any dropship that wants to try to run away from me, because i know how to keep landing the shots into their back-side even while they are dropping from the sky trying to escape. It's a lot more exciting that way, too. I remember blam mentioning trying to make some form of lock on turrets, but hopefully we'll have countermeasures before they come in, otherwise dogfights will come down to who has the highest DPS. And as serimous said with sufficent practice you can get a good idea of where that missile will go. |

Fizzer, gbghg has not told you about Condor Squad!?! I mentioned it a couple of months ago, even made a thread on our forums about it, I gave the name to a couple of other Corp pilots as well, there wasn't much interest at the time. |
