There's quite a long timer. Just after a firefight, it shouldn't really be a problem. Maybe a minute or so, after taking no damage, will there be no triage points awarded for healing that person. Don't quote me on that though, I've never tested it...

Not just self damage. If someone takes damage from enemy fire but doesn't take any more enemy damage after a certain amount of time, they don't give triage points.
