Have two HP trackers per vehicle, one for self inflicted and one for enemy inflicted. Add them for the total damage (this is the only number the player sees). Repairs only grant WP for enemy inflicted damage healing.

Keep in mind that Dropships, RDVs, and MCCs fit into those categories, too. Don't take it as a promise that new aircraft are being worked on right now. CCP just had the forthought to make categories with generic names for future expansion.
