i think grenades are fine. the only ones i see complaining about it are the heavies /w HMGs. the only effective way to get the out of an area is with grenades, if you even step near them they will track and kill you no matter how fast you run.

it shouldn't make a huge difference. so they get a few more skills to lvl 5. max boosters/max skill cap is going to be a larger difference. plus in a month or two you should already have your path leveled out so it shouldn't really matter.
