Further, you won't have large gaps where one set of a players has a ton of SP and the next group down has substantially less; as time goes on, the ones with low SP will have numerical superiority, but the longer time goes on, the more people there...

Speaking from experience with the PS3 since its north american launch, the issues you describe aren't particularly widespread here. The fact that a headset isn't included, but that it supports any and all USB and bluetooth headsets, actively works...
