I've (occasionally) seen messages about what appears to be SP points related to specific weapons/weapon usage in game, ie. 'such and such a Forge gun, 135pts', or something similar. Anyone have a clue? Is this SP points adding to your weapon skill...

Cheers. I think it's probably the best and simplest solution, but it needs poking with a stick to see if there's any holes or other drawbacks to it. I see your point with the distance, although I think you need to stay fairly close to your vehicle...

Yes, lots, it's a popular (if cheap) tactic. You don't have to go up and chase them down though, you can use AV weapons to take them out as well. Either way, sitting ducks=easy points.
