Well according to the DEVs the Assault variant is the true Gallente weapon (which makes no sense withe the current stats) and the breach mimics the Caldari Railrifle (which makes again no sense with the current stats)
If CCP would give the urent breach the rof of the standard AR (and rename it ^^) than it could be the true gallente AR high DPS short range... |

For those that are ignorantly posting about AR's being good at all ranges look up "optimal range" and "fall off" if you got raped by an AR at long range (outside of a TAC which has already been nerfed) You should probably check your build or quit standing in one place...... |

The one place where ARs are where they should be is in CQC- they're outclassed by SMGs, shotguns, knives, and HMGs in CQC, while the breach has a better chance than normal ARs. |

AR's are in perfect balance. the concept of: less rof= more damage ( and vise versa) have been the basis of FPS' since the dawn of time. TAC- significantly low ROF +significantly high damage Breach - low ROF + hight damage standard - high ROF + average damage
burst is more preferance + situational

I have no idea about history/lore of Dust/Eve nor do I even care but I suppose ARs came before every other gun....so more time to develop/enhance/etc. more so than newer future type weapons. Not CCP's fault they are just proper RPers. |

I think the AR's can have their correct range which would put the ScR's range over them - why wouldnt they do that from the start???
If they change it down the line then the rage and tears and QQ train will obviously come out. |

If they were to adjust the Gallente ones now, which are still the only ones with a new variant set, the weapon balance would suffer.
Once we have all the race's ARs good to go, we can redo the Gallente ones.
I suggested before having them all keep the same absolute range, and only differ in their damage falloff out to that range.
So, for example, Gallente ARs would have the highest damage, but the sharpest falloff out to 250m.
Conversely, the Rail(Gauss/Bolt/Whatever) Rifle would have the lowest damage, but the least falloff, so it would do the closest to its original damage at 250m. |

I think it's still pretty damn obvious that ARs (plasma weapons!) are too good at long range. A handheld light plasma weapon can still somehow outrange 20gj blasters mounted on vehicles.

I think the biggest reason that AR's beat out HMG so easily is just all speed. Even at close range where heavies should devastate, they can't turn horizontally to aim as fast as someone in a light/medium suit can run around them. Couple that with shield recharge rates on some of the lighter suits, and it's nearly impossible to kill them up close with the HMG. Especially the burst variant, which is supposed to excel at CQC. Sure, if your standing still the HMG will cut you in half before you can blink. As soon as you start moving, your pretty much safe unless you happen to be at that perfect range where the HMG has both decent damage, and the ability to track you. Don't run away from us, run towards us, that's how you win. |
