Alright listen.. You got your respec, a few of thought the respec idea was stupid/silly post release but we looked past it.. But Im going to get this out on the board..
You cant be serious in asking for -ANOTHER- respec after 1.2, I mean seriously this is a lesson youre going to just have to learn and accept. You made a mistake, and fixed it by going with the flavor ofthe month. Noone forced you to go with what we all knew was going to inevitably get fixed. New armor modules coming out probably wont even touch the whopping issues with Shield vs Armor tanking in infantry considering the Ferroscale - having no speed reductions - will probably get used by shield tankers anyway.
So, no. This player doesnt think you should have your hand held through every update. Just because new materials come out doesnt mean you cansuddenly change your mind on things, nor because it was nerfed when we knew it was going to anyway. You should have tosave up SP for your new toy like the rest of us. I made some stupid decisions (Medium Frame V thinking it affected the Assault bonus ala Eve) but I manned up and moved on.
As much as I give people **** for saying it thisis truly an issue where you should HTFU and be proud of your stupid decisions. Plus its more rewarding when you work for it. This isnt minecraft with hacks, youre in it for the long run kiddo. |

I agree. I could cope with another respec in X month after several successive updates and balance pass considering the state of the game and before a proper respec system is added (1/2 respec per year). Other than that, respecs cannot happend every 2 weeks or so. OR when the slightest thing gets adjusted. |

Sorry buddy but CCP is forcing people to go with the fat heavy Amarr (for example) or save your sp for what, let me see, they took like 3 months to fix something that they already had pretty well in the last build, so yeah, save your sp for 2 years (maybe) to use something that you want. Yes, I'm sorry because I'm telling you this, CCP is forcing you.
The "new content" that they say will support the game for 10 years, is the basic content that it musted to be here when the game went relase.
They relased the half (maybe I'm too good saying half) of the game as a "full relase" even without the possibility of use any race that you want.
But yeah, they're forcing you, forcing me, forcing Yoda, they're forcing all. |

Slightest things?! The last patch has created more imbalances in classes than ever, rendering scouts and heavies completely obsolete and assault useless compared to logis. Sure some people that come to the forums have gotten their respecs, but what about those that didn't and did not and had some faith in some sort of balancing that clearly is not coming? This game, although released, should be in a beta state still. Until all classes are out, TRUE balancing achieved, it is only fair to AT LEAST give the same amount of respecs to everyone regardless of time frames for application and major releases.
You must be a logi.

I'm sorry because I'm too good to be a CPM but, maybe respec won't be needed if CCP make a good update and they don't need to fix/add/balance every 2 weeks? (something that they doesn't do) That's a possibility too right? You're saying that you want to be like 6 months with a game that is bleeding till you make another big update full of bugs and problems. Yes that's the spirit of the capitalism. Good for you. |

sad enough tons of ppl had to wait over a month longer than others, but even now there remain some that are still twisting in the wind.
if/when something like this happens, it needs to happen to everyone at the same time. just not fair otherwise to essentialy single out certain people..
and honestly none of this concerns me personally. I got a respec for the simple fact that I enjoy allocating SP, and with the amount I have, that's a LOT of fun ;) |

What, you thought I enjoyed playing Gallente in Eve Online when it was broken for THREE YEARS? You know what its like not being able to fly in fleets ans getting denied opportunities in corporations because you flew Gallente? I dealt with it until they fixed it, and there were no 'respecs' in Eve.
Maybe the specialization you chose isnt what youre meant for, ever think of that? Maybe you ddnt look at the numbers well enough, because there are heavies/scouts out there that are genuinely good and there are those of us who dont walk directly into their freaggin gunfire.

I think we need to separate the "I want a respec per build" from the "I need to be able to respec infrequently" so that we aren't arguing about two very different animals simultaneously.
One is about living with consequences appropriately and the other is about letting new players be able to recover from initial mistakes and decide to stick with the game without having to start from scratch on an alt. |

I want respec's because they're healthy for player retention. Not necessarily are they good for player retention. I understand this is a shooter but I know I'm not the only player that enjoys the feeling of building up a character then succeeding with it. Part of the reason Diablo III wasn't good for me was you could change your skills whenever you wanted. There weren't any decisions to be made.
Plus I'm really not looking forward to someone discovering an exploit or build that is way more powerful than it was intended to be and then within 48 hours 75% the players in the game are running it with maxed skills only to switch to the next thing when someone discovers it.

I'm sorry, but your opinion is bullshit, and let me tell you why.
As of the last respec, I became an Assault after being primarily a Heavy for a long time. Why? Because they released racial variants of the Assault suits. I'm going full Minmatar, and the only thing close to what I wanted was the Minmatar Assault. So I ran with that. I don't know much about the new update [as soon as I got new games, I find I've been playing DUST less and less], but if it's bringing in new content, like new weapons or new suits, then there better be a respec. Because I'm not an Assault by choice. I refuse to invest in Amarr gear on principle, because I'm into my character, because I want to enjoy this game. As soon as the Minmatar Heavy goes live, if I don't already get a respec, you can expect me here on the forums demanding one, because that's all I've wanted from the beginning: my preferred racial variant of the Heavy suit.
Honestly, if CCP didn't want to hear a bunch of people complaining for respecs or refits, then they should have finished the game before releasing it. |

As we currently do not have an economy, especially one connected to Eve, I believe we can discount this argument against Respecs for the moment.
I believe we have 3 areas of contention.
1. Short term. While we are going through this period of balancing and waiting for the basic racial gear to be introduced. I think through this period we should receive free Respecs as they are needed.
2. Medium Term. Before we are connected to the Eve economy I believe they should introduce a Respec system that costs something be it Aurum, SP or Isk.
3. Long-term. We are now fully integrated with Eve. At this point I am not sure Respecs are advisable without considerable thought and very careful integration. |

Allowing respecs does not mean they are free, painless, or available any time someone wants one. I would rather you adress his first paragraph aswell because it calls the most brought up argument in favor of respecs into question and i as well as most of my friends skipped diablo III mostly for this very reason. Of those who played it and knew its predecessor most raised criticsm of the new skill system and stopped playing very shortly after reaching the endgame because there was very little actual experimenting involved.
Do respecs really increase replay value? I say at least for part of the playerbase they do not.

I'm not concerned with "replay value" in Dust. I am however concerned that a noob screwing up some skills, which we all know will happen, decides to quit instead of spending three months to recover from stupid click.
Making a respec costly, or painful, but not as painful as having to choose between throwing the game in the trash bin versus waiting for 3 months to recover from a mistake is likely to help with player retention -- and I think the consensus is that we need to retain new players if we can.
Also, making it costly, and with a cooldown period, makes it much less likely someone will chase the latest OP fit every time a new build comes out. And, frankly, if they did, I can't say I'd care. It's not like it has any impact on me -- or that I'd even know (except for forum trolling about it). |

It's not like it has any impact on me -- or that I'd even know (except for forum trolling about it). Three months should be enough to ADV at least one, more like two full fits. Even if you screw up every SP you earn over the course of several weeks you should be able to set up a half decent fit once you learn more within this timeframe. This scenario is not the unfortunate event of some poor player beeing shellacked by the skilltree but the natural and intended way of learning the intricacies of the skilltree. Invest, evaluate, improve, repeat.
If a player manages to play the game, socialize and learn from and with other players as well as experiment himself without gradually improving his fit and skills, or simply does not do any of this, over the course of three months and then decides to quit the game then we have a player and a game that are not made for each other and i see little if no value in trying to keep him here. He isn't looking for the dust 514 that CCP created and certainly not for the dust that i am looking for.
There is a certain point where we have to acknowledge that dust is not a mainstream title and should not be treated as such despite all the "AAA CoD killer" marketing talk from CCPs marketing department. It goes without saying that people will leave because of this but it's also true that others will stay for this reason. |

Because Ive still got Engineering 4/5 and a multitude of other skills that Ineed to get the most out of them. Instead of whining that the content isnt there, why dont you prepare for its use? Theres no way you have all of your Upgrade skills and two Weapon skills (all of them) to five, so work on that. Otherwise, youre just complaining because you cant have your toy when its not ready.
No, you're not paying attention. These are things that should have been there in the beginning. Hell, I'm not even talking about the super-specialised bullshit. There are no Gallente Heavy suits, no Amarr Light suits, so on. Those are things that should have been there before they even went to beta. We're talking about core suits that drastically affect gameplay.
Honestly, the weapons I don't really care about. You spec into whatever new toy, new gadgetry, whatever, that's your choice. It could be useful, it might not. But suits are everything in this game. The minute they release a brand new suit, they shouldn't be upset that everyone want a reset, hell, they should expect and allow it, as that is a major change in gameplay. Suits and their roles massively affect the dynamics of the battlefield, and one of the issues this game is suffering from is a lack of variation. Everyone and their grandmother is in a Medium frame, with a minority working in either Heavy or Light.
These are things CCP needs to do in order to keep DUST afloat. I haven't played this game in over a week, I've got newer, better games to play. The only reason why I keep coming back is they have a good concept, but they royally screwed their execution. I've tried defending this game to others for a while, but I'm done. I'm tired of the imbalance, I'm tired of the lack of content. The only defence I ever had for this game was that it was in beta, and as of May, they took that away. They have no excuses now. This is a barely functional game, and I regret supporting CCP for it. If they want to turn this into the game that it deserves, they need to cut the bullshit and start coming up with content: full racial variants for suits, racial variants for vehicles [with higher tiers!], in-game events and interactions that actually make you feel like you're affecting a universe, rather than playing a ****-poor lobby shooter.
Because this game is in its death throes. I've seen it before in other games and other communities. A community gets together, they talk, they have fun, but as more people realise the game isn't well done, or well supported, they slowly turn on each other, and the entire community turns caustic, before everyone remembers that all of their angst, all of their frustration is because of a stupid game. It's plain and simple. As it is now, this is just a lobby shooter with a sci-fi twist. There's some meta-gaming aspect to it, but I've yet to see it actually affect anything meaningful. And guys, let's face it, there's other shooters out there. Better shooters. So why are we playing this? |

Oh looks like another person is taking it to the heart about respecs... Didnt know you were a CCP but Kisser... Get over it, its a game, if they ask for a respec they ask for, CCP will tell them no, continue to earn skills over time, blah blah blah. Your thread and the other threads will be forgoten about, give or take 2 or 3 days... No point preaching to the gamers... LOL
