There are so many things wrong with the game, we don't need to get into, but is anyone else not entirely taking this game seriously and just trying to earn SP. That way when the game becones fun and working, you'll have a headstart?
Thats what I've doing. Honestly, I hope I'm jot wasting my time. Once a game loses players, they don't regain the massive player count that they loss. So really I'm trying to earn SP to make a good character that will let me have fun with the players this game keeps, but everytime I login and see the player count lower and lower I start to think "why even bother? This is a tedious chore, whose effort will not come to fruition".
Anyone else just play for SP and not expect fun gameplay? |

This is definitely a factor in why I play but this actually is a very fun FPS. Some of the most fun I've had outside Halo PC and Reach.
I hate the majority of FPS games where the game revolves all around infantry and you can get killed by a strong enough breeze, and I just couldn't get in to Planetside 2. |

I am hoping matchmaking will make this game fun....in fact i have stopped spending my SP at 2.3 million on my main which has 5.7 million and stopped spending on my alt at 1.3 million which has about 3 million SP
SP is all about being carried and i do not want to be carried.
So yeah i have no idea why i keep playing...perhaps i just like seeing that SP number go up even if I am not using it.
I did play academy on another alt a day or two ago...which was super fun.
But i feel bad as even though we have the same SP/gear i kind of stomp on them....there is really no where to go to have a fun FPS fight against equal leveled characters in this game.
Either get stomped by High Sp players in pubs or stomp on new players who have not even learned the controls in Academy. |

PVE will fix a lot of the problems I think...... The games just a bit to early in development for me to get mad at it, because the way I see it is that eventually the problems will get solved, its just a matter of development time I suppose. The fun factor is just due to a lack of variety. Each match is just the same thing over and over again. You jump in, you shoot somebody, you make your 5-10k SP, rinse and repeat. Eventually we should have the ability to play around with the market, be industry mercs, be PVE mercs, explore. Maybe they'll even introduce a mission system one day (randomized mission system). Once a majority of this stuff makes its way in I think will enjoy the game much better. But until then I feel like people are going to either just take a break or continue grinding on. |

How will PvE fix any problems? This is a FPS PvP shooter, the entire balance is around killing each other. PvE in games that are PvP focused is usually terrible and at best, is repetitive and gets old quick. The best case for DUST is a horde mode type PvE, not a full blown PvE game like borderlands..
You know how the lack of maps and gametypes make PvP boring, imagine that, but with scripted enemy waves instead of smart, dynamic players. |

Personally, my misgivings lie in the fact that a developer would choose such a cheap and exploiting path instead of going the 'quality' route.
I forget which pos game publishing CEO it was made the comment at E3 this year, but hearing one of video gaming's top executive refer to preorder betas and paid launchday DLC as standard business practices and see everyone take it as the perfectly acceptable norm..... kind of made me die a little inside.
A bit of a bubble is growing in the gaming community. There will be a dev/publisher that comes along and provides excellent sincere and popular service sharp enough to bust that bubble eventually... it always happens. I'll be there to laugh my ass off at all the studios and publishers that go belly up soon afterwards as a result.... I always am.
How marketing douches could take something as well-meaning as betas and post-launch support, and bastardize it to such a degree, has been very interesting to watch. Who knew that it would be so easy to dupe gamers into actually PAYING for the oppurtunity to suffer through the gameplay of unfinished half-assed games while PAYING for complete access to the rest of games they'd just purchased. By all rights, the f2p business model should have helped to balance the karma on all of this, but it's only served to inflame the issue thus far. Actions have consequences though, and time is usually the enemy of those willing to send out bad karma in the name of Greed.
Wow, all this crap I just typed will probably seem like near-psychotic incoherent ramblings to most readers. The curse of being too damn perceptive I suppose. |

I'm constantly surprised by how many forum posts include the message that players are not "having fun" while playing.
I continue to enjoy every match, and I continue to feel very invested in this game, match by match. There's something in this game which truly frustrates and pisses me off when my nice suit (with only advanced gear cause I'm a rather SP poor) gets killed, in a way that I never feel in any other game. Something about knowing that I just lost a good 10-20% of my match's income in that one moment is more meaningful than any number of meaningless Ranks or K/D ratios or "Levels" in other games. Conversely when I get the drop on somebody in my all standard 7-8k Suit and kill their prototype suit with a few SR head shots, or when I can come out of a large fight with a handful of kills and a prayer's worth of Armor left, I feel a much larger sense of accomplishment than in other games.
I'm not sure how to explain how much it means to me that the gear I am destroying / losing is costing them / me in game ISK, but it's something that really makes this game stand out among all the shooters I've played. If you don't find that fun... then I'm not really sure how I can explain how deeply that invests me into the game. |

Yeah, I am like this too but for me personally as an EvE player, I have seen how EvE went through it's ups and downs and I know DUST will pull through. I still enjoy the game sometimes but in general right now because of the limited game modes and PvE not with the launch of the game, it just feels really grindy. |

Heh, I like that article.
I started playing Dust once it was in full release. I expected it to be an MMOFPS with continuous future updates when I purchased some aurum as part of my entry to the game. I didn't expect to be scammed into a rolling beta.
It was pretty dishonest advertising on CCP's part tbh, tarnishes that little soapbox they stand on when trying to differentiate their company from other MMO developers in the market.
More fool me I guess; I should have come here and read the forums in detail rather than accepting CCP's brand from my EVE experience. Well played CCP. |
