Can you really even blame CCP when they know there's suckers the like of yourself to be hulled out there?

Personally, my misgivings lie in the fact that a developer would choose such a cheap and exploiting path instead of going the 'quality' route.
I forget which pos game publishing CEO it was made the comment at E3 this year, but hearing one of video gaming's top executive refer to preorder betas and paid launchday DLC as standard business practices and see everyone take it as the perfectly acceptable norm..... kind of made me die a little inside.
A bit of a bubble is growing in the gaming community. There will be a dev/publisher that comes along and provides excellent sincere and popular service sharp enough to bust that bubble eventually... it always happens. I'll be there to laugh my ass off at all the studios and publishers that go belly up soon afterwards as a result.... I always am.
How marketing douches could take something as well-meaning as betas and post-launch support, and bastardize it to such a degree, has been very interesting to watch. Who knew that it would be so easy to dupe gamers into actually PAYING for the oppurtunity to suffer through the gameplay of unfinished half-assed games while PAYING for complete access to the rest of games they'd just purchased. By all rights, the f2p business model should have helped to balance the karma on all of this, but it's only served to inflame the issue thus far. Actions have consequences though, and time is usually the enemy of those willing to send out bad karma in the name of Greed.
Wow, all this crap I just typed will probably seem like near-psychotic incoherent ramblings to most readers. The curse of being too damn perceptive I suppose. |
