It hit me in the "weak spot" of the ship. Which constitutes about 30% of the vehicle.

I've had the same thing happen to me. I was at full health (about 5k eHP) and got 1 shotted from the back, even if it was a forge that dealt 3600 damage a 30% damage boost doesn't equal 5k. Close but no cigar, I should have had 500 ish health left which would have gave me enough time to active reppers and use my afterburners to get away. My dropship I was using was 2682 armor with 23.5% resistance and 1710 shields with 10% resistance. |

I have heard about weak spots on vehicles, but i can't say I've ever noticed any damage difference. Are there really differences depending on where you hit?
On another note, I will beat the dead horse and say proto FG's are quite strong to STD vehicles.
On another another note, DS's have the short end of the vehicle stick. Using a HAV, can normally one shot most, on rare occasions two. I may be giggling gleefully on the outside, but they can't be useful if they're getting blasted from across the map. The LAV's last longer than dropships, and cost a fraction of the price. At least give them the speed and tank of a LAV. LLAV's will take 4 direct hits from a proto rail turret before popping. |

Oh but hey, we are getting destroyer vehicles too!
Now it's not just fixed turrets or FGs that dropships have to worry about. There will be mobile turrets not so vulnerable to infantry too.

34 meters away with a Breach. Did he have a good hiding locked-in-spot-charged and waited for you to pass by? Or after dying did he spend a ridiculous amount of time trying to stalk a dropship, is that even possible?
No infantry weapon should be able to one-shot a medium class aircraft. It may be realistic but this just breaks game balance when there is currency involved.

The fact that the 'weak spot' are those two giant things that take up half the ship and are easy to hit, especially if you're trying to fly away out of the range of a FG and they still hit you at max range does factor into your equations?
Because that's happened to me several times. Just this time I took a picture lol. The distance is irrelevant as a FG huts the same from 3 feet as 300 feet. If they tapered off over distance then it would be riskier to be around them but there is no trolling here.

PS that means that with 1700 armor, You would need to block 74% of All that damage (6400+) in order to survive with a sliver of ten HP and burn to death a tick later. Lol
That kind of damage isn't justifiable. |

ground cover is the thing. These vehicles are balanced around numbers (and poorly) but in the air its a whole different creature.
there's no "Speed up a bit and turn around this building". There is only "Oh damn, we got hit by a FG and are now instantly dead".
Or slightly more commonly something like this: "We got hit by a FG out of nowhere, now we're burning with 300 HP left. I instantly activated my after burner that we'll assume every DS has even though they don't, but it takes two seconds to kick in!. Except that Assault FG has a cooldown of 1.8 seconds Base per shot. And he can lower that even more with skills! Too bad, It's been one whole second, and you just took the second shot for 90% overkill of your HP. Glad so much player skill went into this whole episode!". |

The 34 meters however is odd. How was he that close to you with a weapon that has a terrible RoF and leaves him locked in place while charged? I was half bracing myself to hear people have found a way to FG surf on LLAVs. |

Minor correction here, proto assault forge gun has a charge up time of 2.5 seconds lowered by 25% to just under 1.9 seconds. Let's stick to the facts shall we? ;) |

Explain how player A kills me with 400 damage, then later kills me for 64 damage (my remaining health at the time). His cumulative damage didn't go down. |

I'm always floored that people still want to nerf the one and only player skill based AV weapon in the game... Proto swarms do massive damage to armor tanked drop ships and they don't even have to aim the thing. |

Just because it's the the only player-skill AV does not mean it's not OP. Although I personally find the FG to be quite easy to use.
Of course this also does not mean that nerfing FG is the only way to balance DS. In fact it might be a very bad way to do it. Alternatives include buffing the DS. lol |

They ruined the purpose of the DS when they increased the downward angle of the mounted cannons. that should have never happened. When they really started being killing machines, they got the nerf hammer.
They should have just left them as the player transport blimp. A well fit Eryx used to take 6-8 shots to bring down with a proto forge and 2 complex damage mods. |

They used to just sit up in the sky, fly in tiny circles, and rain death - and back in the E3 build they would camp on towers... ugh...
Anyways, if the cannon angle is reduced then all they need is some good HP, and the ability to fit a few more damage resist mods. Also, some WP for the pilot when a player spawns on them would be nice. |

In this case, good hp appears to be 19k+... or three forge shots. = /
Seriously, even at proto level that's an absurd number of eHP. I understand that forge guns are both tough to use, annoying (when charged), glued to fat suits and expensive (sp wise).
However, the things also shouldn't melt HAV's, DS's and bounce harmlessly off LAV's.
After all, the fragility of HAV's as well as expense (I$Kwise) is one reason there's so damn many bumpercars driving around anyway. One of the most effective counters pops nearly instantly under forge fire...
NOTE: Good tankers don't have this problem... in good tanks. I understand this, as a mediocre tanker who used to have a fairly decent tank.
The problem arises from lack of cheapo tanks with any staying power. The possibility of more than one decent tank per game might slow down the whole 'murder-car' issue (taxis are only LLAV's.... they're yellow remember).

In beta dropships went through a faze of being indestructable flying death machines!
(small missile turrets 1 shot killing with spash, ridiculious accuracy, and rof. On a flying machine that could take multiple railgun hits and then just fly behind a building)... those were the days
AV is fine (ish) its the dropships that need the work. Its all going to need mixing up with the introduction of new HAV's etc anyway lol |

That's a breach forge gun hitting a weak spot for 200% damage, and if you use on of those, more power to you. They're even harder to aim because you can't move while charging to make minute adjustments.
Lavs seem to have their resists eeffed up right now. they need to have their resistance to small arms cut by 70% and the hit boxes on the drivers are sort of occluded by the LAV hit boxes.
Basically Drop ships should be where LAVs are.
I personally think LAVs should spawn from an installation on the ground that works like a vending machine and uses ISK that pays out to the owner who calls it in... but LOL THAT WOULD BE TOO MUCH FUN AND WE CAN'T HAVE ANY NONSENSE IN OUR SERIOUS SPACE GAME!
