So much for "free-to-play" on the PS4, no?
Oddly, enough, I came to the forum expecting to see an uproar about this new revelation only to find out that it seems the playerbase is as of yet still unaware of the situation.
Pause the following video at 12 seconds and read the bottom line of the fine print disclaimer on the screen. Read it very carefully. Then read it again..... very carefully.

Mebbe lack of uproar is because nobody is convinced that DUST is going to PS4. Having to pay for the network does suck though. A bit of a sneaky move there, though SONY hasn't been doing too well lately, so its not really a big surprise. |

This is really a Sony/PSN issue. It is going to apply to all online gaming, right? So, if you are paying so you can play CoD then Dust can follow along for the ride.
It's not the same as the sharing issue -- but I can see why they would like to get a financial stake in the online game because that is the way everything is eventually going to go. I guess they have to earn something beyond the hardware sales. |

Yeah, just take a look at Apple. Stock prices have dropped by massive amounts, just because they can't manage to dominate the cell industry as much as they used to. They are still king of kings, but they're stocks have taken a more massive hit than any other international cell manufacturer..... go figure. |

Meh, none of that is of any concern to me, really.
Just stoked to see Sony convince all of it's fanbros to PRAISE the very video where Sony announces to them that they will be required to pay for online gaming on the PS4.

Says you need ps plus subscription for multi play. Not online play.
Ie. hand your buddy your game. If you both have ps+ you can both play the same game simultaneously online. You will have installed it - he will play from the disc.
That's what I've gathered from everything anyway. Being able to lend your game without losin the ability to play it. Seems cool.
I have yet to see anything that says ps+ is required for online play.
Also this doesn't apply to dust. Physical disc copies only. |

and your point would be? ps+ is not that hard to get..its not expensive and has more benefits than xbox live does, and xbox live is mandatory for all internets xD..so what exactly is your point ..most console gamers who prefer Sony over Microsoft (anyone who does not prefer Sony over Microsoft is insane. at its base Sony is just a better company with better products) already has PlayStation+ if the game dies it wont be because of this. it will be because of ccp's business management and communication. and even if it is ported to ps4 it will most likely remain on ps3 for a time as well as not everyone can afford to nab the ps4 as soon as it comes out and it would harm dust 514 customer base massively. ...this may effect the younger gamers i suppose...save up every year geta ps+ account they are worth it. |

I already pay for a PS+ membership. Mostly because I couldn't give 2shiznits about bragging about console superiority. I'm a gamer, I spend money on good gaming regardless of platform, end of story.
What matters here is the biggest fanbro taunt in the fanfail console war between Sony/Micro kiddies just got thrown off the battlefield. Kind of hilarious that Sony's tricked all of it's faithful into CHEERING the initial revealing of that info.

No uproar because most people over the age of 12 realise its a non-issue. I pay for XBox Live membership and I'll have no qualms about paying for PS+ membership on the PS4. 75% of my entertainment time consists of multiple online games, cheaper than a night out at the movies + dinner.

I hardly consider PS+ to have been a purchase, rather, it was an investment with a roughly 1000% return. I rarely buy anything on PSN, and the PS+ discounts have still paid for the service alone. That's before I factor in just how many free AAA games I've been given for free.
All that aside; it's a downer to learn that the service will be mandatory on PS4. I'm also worried that it may mean a reduction in the quality of the service, and the introduction of new premium package. |

No, I live in Ohio. I buy bagged apples all the time. Why put them in a bag yourself, that will probably break due to the amount of apples, when there is already bagged apples. |

Sony is moving away from physical disc-based games and moving everything into digital. (in an attempt to rightfully shove a foot up gamestop's ass). As such, they need to now generate revenue to fund their MUCH larger networking issues that come with providing everything digitally. Subscription was something that was seen coming a mile away.
On a side note, Yes Dust 514 is coming to the PS4. Dust currently is in beta on ps3, and will forever be in beta as long as its on the ps3.
why you ask?
All of their ideas originally were developed on the Carbon Engine (CCP's own engine). The ps3 cannot handle the carbon engine for it melts the console from overheating. Since the dust closed beta was released, more then half of the ideas CCP has been coming up with and teasing us about developing them, cannot be done on the ps3, for it does not have the hardware to accomplish the tasks.
Hence when you look at the initial gameplay videos of dust, they look FAR better then whats currently being provided.
Dust was built to run on the Carbon Engine, CCP found out they couldn't use it so instead of scrapping the whole project and waiting for the ps4, they decided to use a 10 year old unreal engine 3 they have never used before, and started coding everything to work with technology a decade old, JUST to provide its customer with the game they showcased.
CCP has gone to great lengths to provide us with this beta, to test their baby as it grows into the sprawling adult the game was originally intended to be...so when it DOES hit the ps4, theres YEARS of beta testing data they won't need to acquire.
Enjoy this PS3 beta until the actual game releases on the system that can handle the game mechanics being developed. , i am |

Well, Microsoft will fail then. But Sony are tricking fanboys here, they make you buy PS Plus, and then people say "Wow, PS Plus games, demos, themes, avatars plus online!". Since they hog a good $50 off you, the could've made the console a bit more attractive. |

This is so weird. How can $5 a month be cheaper than.... $5 a month? I'm having trouble understanding that.
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/join?cid=ps-b-amca-xboxplatform-12+months+of+xbox+live+gold-e_94bf4c8d70c31f00fee389b691186380
PS4 does win the console pricing battle, for now, though. That's until the release the specs limitations on that $399 model and compare it to the inevitable $499 premium model.
FYI Microsoft released a $399 xbox360 model on day1 and will likely do the same with the Xbox1 They just didn't try to advertise the general price of the console as being that low because they new that the cheap version wasn't feaure complete (no hardrive, wireless controller, etc...) Maybe Microsoft didn't advertise like that for a reason. Maybe they know something about backlash that Sony has yet to realize?
Who knows..... time will tell. |

Finally, another rational gamer whom isn't content on being a blind head-in-the-sand fanbro.
You're absolutely right. All of us here know damn well that one of the biggest selling points for the PS3 was that PSN was free-to-play over. We've all enjoyed that feature at one point. There's no reason to act like it doesn't matter that Sony is taking that away, except rabid fanboyism. It's a blow to the platform, and a bit of a backstab to the loyal fanbase, but whateva we're all PS+ bros now so lets move forward |

Dust was built to run on the Carbon Engine, CCP found out they couldn't use it so instead of postponing the whole project and waiting for the ps4, they decided to use a 10 year old unreal engine 3 they have never used before, and started coding everything to work with technology a decade old, JUST to provide its customer with the game they showcased.
CCP has gone to great lengths to provide us with this beta, to test their baby as it grows into the sprawling adult the game was originally intended to be...so when it DOES hit the ps4, theres YEARS of beta testing data they won't need to acquire.
Enjoy this PS3 beta until the actual game releases on the system that can handle the game mechanics being developed. , i am If the PS4 can handle Carbon... all of my money, CCP. After I pay for PS+ of course... |

and not having a ps+ at this point is like not getting a merc pack. your missing out on a lot of stuff. geez.. early beta entrance is worth it alone. |

The only black mark is thet PS+ sub but with what you get which is what free games every month/beta access/cloud saves so if PS4 break you dont lose your saves/discounts but since ive decided to boycott EA games i save at least -ú50 which can go on then PS+ instead which i will use
You could decide to buy the XBOX 1984 with TV instead, just make sure you have doritoes and dew in the room so the kinect can see it |

ah sorry your right it won't brick if you don't pay the 5 dollars it only bricks if you try and use it without the internet.
though considering almost every good game shown at e3 was indeed a multiplayer game I have trouble seeing the purpose of an xbone without it.
anyway if they are doing away with the passes that's fine, good for them. but if xbox fan boys had no problem paying for xbox live for years to play quality games I don't think I'll mind all that much if I have to this generation, at least I get free games and discounts with it. |

If I was running the show the UR3/PS3 thing would be a training exercise for the real deal. Assets would be developed with that in mind.
Ultimately, if DUST mercs and EVE goolappers are ever going to....mingle....surely they'll hve to be doing it in the same graphics engine bed, so to speak. In carbon, it would be teh sex.

2) Who are some of you guys? Are you paid by Micro$oft to trash the PS4? If not, you are giving your work away for free.
Seriously, it's clear that online services costs money and that it takes money to scale them as customers jump on board. I actually dont care.
Shocking I know.
You still get the PS+ Benefits (17 Games a year, discounts, Betas .etc) Its not like you're just getting online.
Although, with this extra money, I hope Sony put it towards securing PSN (Dont want a repeat of last year), increases PS4 download speed, I get 1.5mb/s on Steam (A free service) and around an average of 500mb/s (Sometimes worse) on PS3.
And one last thing, I really hope once one person in a household or one account on the PS4 has PS+, every account or member of the household get to go online, anything else is a huge rip-off.
(I also hope the PS4 comes bundled with a year or even a month of PS+, just because I want it to ) |

You only pay one subscription fee for gaming on all platforms (PS4, PS3, Vita) but if you go the next 3-5 years on only PS3, can you remain with free multiplayer???
hmmmmm
Also are Publishers going to keep their online passes etc on Sony titles since Sony is allowing used games. Interesting times ahead.

I think it will be a couple of years before CCP decides to create one for the PS4 so they can be able to polish the PS3 version first. Besides, even with the $399 price tag, a lot of people are still going to hold off on buying the PS4 due to recent experience such as defective power cords, yellow light of death, and other problems you tend to see with the first batch of models being sold. In other words, the initial buyers become beta testers. |

To me polishing on PS3 makes no sense - other than maybe the balancing issue of weapons.
If programming on PS3 is like shooting a beach ball into a basketball hoop, why would you continue doing that when you can now throw a volley ball or tennis ball into the hoop.
I cant believe that CCP isnt playing around with PS4 dev kits to see if they will just bring over their engine or use Unreal4 or whatever to develop. |

Ie. hand your buddy your game.
They announced this months ago, an exec leaked it. If you purchase any second hand game you will be required to pay for + to have online content or you will have tp pay an unlock fee for the game. i'm still waiting for an official statement regarding access to normal multiplayer for new games like we are currently getting for free. the OP's video is about shared games and the arstechnica screen shot is about what you get with PS+. is "immersive multiplayer" the cross game chat? i would really like a quote or source that actually says something like "if you buy a new online FPS for PS4, you'll need PS+ to play it online", not "multi play"Gäó not "immersive multiplayer"Gäó. if someone comes across such a source today please reply back here. i'll be keeping my eyes out for one as well. --edit-- ahh, crap. confirmed by Shuhei Yoshida's twitter ( @yosp : President of Worldwide Studios, Sony Computer Entertainment. ) see his tweet replay here : https://twitter.com/9Matt2/status/344364864619294720
LOL, bro. You didn't really need that confirmation. The disclaimer was pretty damn clear in the video I linked to in the OP.
Only reason you so reason to doubt it was.... denial. Nothing more nothing less. Anywho, welcome to PS+, fanbro. Glad to have you in the club |

And one last thing, I really hope once one person in a household or one account on the PS4 has PS+, every account or member of the household get to go online, anything else is a huge rip-off. (I also hope the PS4 comes bundled with a year or even a month of PS+, just because I want it to )
So, to sum all of that rambling up in one sentence........
You actually don't care, but you actually find the CURRENT PS+ standards to be "a huge rip-off"?
That kind of reminds me of this new-hire guy at work last year, who came in boasting about how he didn't really need the $30hr job and was just there to "improve his credit postitioning for whatever blah blah blah". Bragbro actually sat down right next to me and started bawling like a little baby when he found out his name was on a lay-off list a few months later. Took so much maturity and bearing for me not to laugh my ass off at him right then and there.... but my coworker bro behind me has no such bearing, and to this day I can still clearly hear that ruckus laugh of his.
Bragbro cursed him to hell then storrmed out the building (securing his omission from the "re-hire list" that was posted 4 weeks later. turns out it was just a temporary layoff while management sorted out a conflict with Union leadership over the newhires. LMFAO)
EDIT: Not that it matters, but the funniest part of old Bragbro's story is that he showed up to work driving a brand new 427 just three weeks before he got laid off. You could smell the new car sent from 20 yards away when he let the top down. Awesome car... foolish owner. |

Although, this could be the end of the Online Pass in Sony published games..... hopefully.....
Nope, not gonna happen. Sony charging a sub fee only puts money in Sony's pockets. They've done nothing to help devs to avoid revenue losses on used game sales, hence third parties will still continue to require online passes in order make sure all online players have contributed revenue to the game for which they intend to consume server bandwidth from.
It's up to the third parties if they want to require online passes or not. Sony could write it into their hosting agreement and "force" third parties to stop requiring online passes, but that will ultimately end up hurting the PS4 playerbase and console sales (take a look at the WiiU for what happens when an arrogont console manufacturer throws a middle finger at third parties) |

You'll regret doing that.... evntually. Trust me. PC online shooter gaming ain't all it's been cracked up to be.
One word: Hackers
If you do go purely PC, I recommend that you primarily stick with Steam. You'll enjoy yourself a lot more that way. You could check out EA's Origin if you'd like, but they do next to nothing against hacks and... well, it's Ea so be sure to take your kneepads and K-Y jelly with you.

At the moment I play on both the PS3, Xbox 360, and the Mac. In all probability I will be dropping my Xbox gold subscription as I am currently not that impressed with the Xbox One as a games machine.
The reason, many years ago, I went with the Xbox was the controller. I absolutely hate the DS controller you get as standard with the various versions of the Playstation. They were just so small and awkward, even painful, to use for lengthy periods of time.
So if I move from Xbox to Playstation it will be no big deal moving my subscription as well. But before I buy the PS4 I will wait to see what controllers become available.
I assume there is a reason for it but I never understood the reason why Sony stuck with that 1 controller design for all these years. If third party designers could produce Xbox like controllers then why couldn't Sony.
Do you as FPS players prefer the DS3 controller over an Xbox controller clone produced by a third party for the Playstation?
And I realise many prefer KB&M over any controller but this question is for those who use the controller most if not all of the time. |

Because (if not) that is soo wrong in soo many levels, i can't even...
Lets see: I pay for my internet connection, then i pay for my games (that are designed to be played online), then i pay for my console AND THEN i have to pay again to use my console runing my games on my internet connection!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This world is going from BAD to WORSE every day! $$$Gé¼-ú$-ú-úGé¼Gé¼$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I know sony guys like the DS but everytime they do polls etc the XBox controller is preferred and many consider it the best controller.
Not an issue though as there will be 3rd party controllers and I'm sure other accessories that will allow you to use either control on your desired system |

as far as the ps4 i look at it like this ps4 lets you play used games, ps plus fee to upgrade and protect network, free games and etc... ms Xbox one need to be connected 24-7 just to play a game, don't play for 24 hours console locks ,can't play used game and you got to have the gold package to use netflixs . can't lend games to friends. game console won't work without kinect .can't sell game. mandatory online check. oh and it's 499.99 and the is ps4 399.99 case close |
