You said 500 previously (must have been a typo), but I just meant that as a general comment on everybody wanting to shoot from as far away as possible. I prefer to see whites of my enemy's (sometimes nonexistent) eyes when I fight.

Firstly, yes, it is annoying to sight up and let off a few rounds with no hits. The Devs said they know the hard stop doesn't feel right, so they plan to have damage fall off gradually. |

If this is the future of weaponry, then I'll be glad to have my primitive 240B laying waste to all the dropsuits up to 1000 meters away from me. And I think an M1A1 would destroy all these tanks in game now. Good luck with your rail gunlogi when an Abrams is circling you at 60 MPH with accurate fire from the main cannon. |

The hard stop is very immersion breaking. It looks weird to see the bullet trails just stop a foot in front of your face.
However, it is kind of a useful tool in battle. When the finally implement proper falloff, your bullets will still connect beyond their max range, but will probably do next to no damage. I foresee this confusing people even more than the hard stop, as they won't be able to determine the max range as easily. (It will be good for stopping shields from recharging, though.)
As usual, CCP has their work cut out for them. |

Well all the rail tank needs to do is hit once, then the inside of the Abrams would be... Well quite messy. Plus the gunlogi has shields. |

I was just stating that range is not critical for the game to be fun. Trying to be realistic is also not something everyone should be doing either, there is a reason why most combat simulators are not all that popular. Although realism is great for inspiration it shouldn't be the sole reason to balance something because we all know, Real life is effing unfair.
Regardless they are working on something that was announced at fanfest to deal with the whole effective range and optimal range other than having bullets simply disappear. |

I'll say it again... it isn't the "stated" range that is important. It's the visual playing range and the relative ranges between the weapons.
If you are happy with the relative ranges are you just saying the maps should be increased by a factor of 10 so that the weapon ranges are more "realistic" or something stupid like that? |

As a counter argument the ARs are plasma weaponary so they don't actually shoot projectials. Super heated plasma would eventually disappear. So their short range makes sense from a lore point of view.
But I don't care about lore. What I do care about is game balance but making the ARs long ranged would make all over weapons inferier. |

WTF are you smoking? Sharpshooter for light and heavy weapons is long gone. Sharpshooter skill on the AR and SMG only effect dispersion NOT increased range.
Don't tell me you really never read the skill description for the new sharpshooter skill.

Why are we always talking about CoD?
In terms of map size vehicles and general FPS game play Dust is much closer to battle field 1942 then it is to a brand new CoD title.

Well range adjustments are more of in question to what sort of environment the developers want. I mean if everyone had sniper rifles it could turn out to be a very boring game of dominos as one person giving his position away getting shot by someone else giving his position away. |

Sniper ghost warrior multiplayer, though that could be pretty good at times, there's something about staring at a patch of green for 2 minutes trying to figure out whether or not a person is there. Makes for a very tense time. |
