Along with Destiny, there are just way too many other games that are coming out for a lot of people to want to come back to Dust in the state that it's in,and what I mean by that isn't content or lack there of,but more of the technical side of things.
If all you nerds have been following the console wars that are going on right before E3, you'll know atm the Xbox One is considered laughable compared to PS4. Pay for a used Xbox One game and then pay MS to play it... doubt it.
I know a few hardcore Xbox players that play DUST, most of them said if this happens they are buying a PS4.
One of the biggest games on the Xbox is HALO. Bungie made HALO... Bungie is making Destiny exclusively for the PS4.
Connect the dots, tons of people will be playing Destiny.
Destiny alone won't deflate (wont say kill) DUST. But if DUST isn't on the PS4 at launch (it wont be) and you could have Destiny, BF4, Watchdogs, Second Son, Killzone, COD: Ghosts, GTA V etc... would you really stay with DUST over a PS4 and all these games next gen games?
Me either... I think DUST is about to find out how MAG felt with that exodus.

Just for the record,I honestly do hope that Dust is a viable game in the very near future, and if it is,I WON'T abandon it for Destiny. The thing is though, the console market is mostly made up of people with ADHD,and don't have the patience to wait.On the other hand though, how long are people really supposed to wait if there is something more fun(notice that I said fun,and not necessarily better) to play?Right now on a scale of one to ten,Dust is about a 5.5 or 6 in it's fun factor. This is THE most important thing that needs to improve for Dust to survive.
If games aren't fun to play, people won't play them, plain and simple.I want Dust to succeed.I want Dust to usher in a new paradigm shift in shooters.I want Dust to be the game that it aims to be.As of right now,Dust is failing.I know that CCP is aware of this, but the question is,what are they doing to correct it?
My post isn't to say Dust sucks or that people should stop playing it and move on to something else, rather it is to shine a light on one of the biggest problems that CCP is facing to make the game successful.

Destiny isn't a PS4 exclusive.This is from their official site. http://www.destinythegame.com/wheretobuy
Oh,and I think you could be right about a MAG-like exodus.I wouldn't be surprised if we see numbers dip under 6k on a nightly basis if they are a no show,or don't show anything new at E3. |

TL;DR CCP is running out of time to fix Dust before people leave to play other games.

Why such blind fanboi-ism?
FPSs and MMOs are my game genres of choice, I play lots and lots of them. I don't chain myself to the altar of one game and worship like a crazed zealot. I can recognise the good and bad points of multiple games.
I love Team Fortress 2, CoD, Killzone, Unreal, Planetside, Counterstrike, Halo, Gears of War, Resistance, Crysis, Borderlands, Mass Effect, Serious Sam, Quake, the list goes on and on. They are all amazing, fun games and every single one of them (except maybe TF2) could be improved in some way or had some particular niggle.
Dunno about you guys but I can play more than one game, I can play Destiny AND Dust then take take a quick time out to take Commander Shepard for another spin, cap some fools in CoD and get some yuckles playing BL2's latest expansions.
Doesn't make me blind to Dust's serious problems, it just doesn't stack up anywhere near to the other FPS giants (yet). CCP did a long term Lazarus with EVE and I think they have the wherewithal to do the same with Dust. At some point on some platform it will come good and be an excellent persistent-FPS. It just might be a long and bitter road for true believers.
It does have a slight advantage in being F2P in this regard, even in a year's time people can hear word of mouth on the state of the game and jump back in to see how its faring. They don't need to re-buy into it. |

Good post Th3rdSun.
Your points are solid and well-presented, there's really nothing to argue with in your post. I think if DUST were a 'standard' fps it would be dead already, effectively still-born. DUST does provide some great experiences, but the moment-to-moment core gameplay feels like chewing tinfoil.
It's New Eden that makes things hard to predict. And the reason for this is that New Eden is by any reasonable measure, alive. It is it's own entity, and bigger than any one player or group of players. It reacts, evolves, adapts, it has it's own character and generates its own lore. I realize it's easy to mock this statement, but based on evidence it's very hard to argue against. Right now in EVE there are giant movements of wealth and power occuring in reaction to the presence of DUST mercs. The real, living universe is turning its eye on us.
What this means for DUST is that it has very long legs and will be exceedingly hard to kill. It also means that if CCP can get the fps fundamentals working right peeps will return to DUST. And ofc once we get the basics out of the way the 'endgame' vision for DUST absolutely beggars anything DESTINY or any other game will have. I don't need to provide examples because we all know this to be true, that's why we're still here standing our ground in this awful fps experience.
Not to diminish what Bungie and their competitors are doing. Destiny and other games will be pure fps sex. Controls will be a dream and characters will move like the killing machines they are. There will be a large playerbase. The quality control and production values will be solid at the very least, if not gob-smacking.
Et cetera. But the multiple releases, story arcs and shared social experinces that Bungies is planning on for DESTINY will never match the fecundity of New Eden for story-generation, and will never allow for the epic universe-wide fame-generating triumphs and abject humiliating defeats we will face in DUST. Empires will not be built and betrayed, rebuilt and sweet revenge will not be extracted anywhere except in New Eden.
That's why i'm still here, at any rate.
And as for the PS4, can you believe that a company that is forward-thinking enough and technically competent enough to build CREST and a globally-distributed battleserver architecture hasn't positioned itself for the PS4? Not to mention the relationship with SONY. CCP's MO is this: Do a lot of work behind the scenes and then release quickly, over-delivering on expectations. The list of CCP's technical accomplishments is impressive. It would be foolish to expect things to change now.

We still have no announcement on this, like on a shitload of other stuff too. CCP really needs to work on it'S communication, if you still can't implement stuff or change stuff, please let us at least know what the future plans are.

I can imagine CCP devs having a good old laugh at threads like this one.
Some of the newer devs might be a bit hurt by some of the mud slinging, but then the old hands will mention that they just ignore those posts. I wish Dust was in a better state right now, and I can't imagine why CCP made some of the choices they did, and I'm particularly worried that the lack of a bearable new player experience and the core gameplay issues will give it such a bad reputation that it can never recover, but some of the things people are saying here just demonstrates a complete lack of understanding about what CCP are attempting with the game. |

And I spend ever longer trying to get across that FW matches have a strong knock on effect EvE side. I hear what you are saying, but Bungie already has a built in following, something that Trion Worlds just doesn't nearly have as much of,as far as the FPS(or third person in Defiance's case) gaming space is concerned.
Also people, don't take for granted the power of a new COD and BF games will bring.I'm not a fan of either series, but my,nor anyone else's disinterest or disdain for it,won't make either of those games any less successful when they are released.
So here's an example of three AAA shooters that will be out on the market before the year is out.Like I said before,if people that play Dust right now decide to give any,or all of those a try,and they are having more fun playing them, don't be surprised if they never come back.
I'm really curious to see more of Destiny, and if it's good,I will definitely be splitting time between that and Dust. And if I am having more fun with Destiny,I have to be honest,it will be getting way more of my time and attention than Dust, but if Dust has a lot of it's issues ironed out before Destiny, then Dust will be getting more of my time and efforts.
