Your points are solid and well-presented, there's really nothing to argue with in your post. I think if DUST were a 'standard' fps it would be dead already, effectively still-born. DUST does provide some great experiences, but the moment-to-moment core gameplay feels like chewing tinfoil.
It's New Eden that makes things hard to predict. And the reason for this is that New Eden is by any reasonable measure, alive. It is it's own entity, and bigger than any one player or group of players. It reacts, evolves, adapts, it has it's own character and generates its own lore. I realize it's easy to mock this statement, but based on evidence it's very hard to argue against. Right now in EVE there are giant movements of wealth and power occuring in reaction to the presence of DUST mercs. The real, living universe is turning its eye on us.
What this means for DUST is that it has very long legs and will be exceedingly hard to kill. It also means that if CCP can get the fps fundamentals working right peeps will return to DUST. And ofc once we get the basics out of the way the 'endgame' vision for DUST absolutely beggars anything DESTINY or any other game will have. I don't need to provide examples because we all know this to be true, that's why we're still here standing our ground in this awful fps experience.
Not to diminish what Bungie and their competitors are doing. Destiny and other games will be pure fps sex. Controls will be a dream and characters will move like the killing machines they are. There will be a large playerbase. The quality control and production values will be solid at the very least, if not gob-smacking.
Et cetera. But the multiple releases, story arcs and shared social experinces that Bungies is planning on for DESTINY will never match the fecundity of New Eden for story-generation, and will never allow for the epic universe-wide fame-generating triumphs and abject humiliating defeats we will face in DUST. Empires will not be built and betrayed, rebuilt and sweet revenge will not be extracted anywhere except in New Eden.
That's why i'm still here, at any rate.
And as for the PS4, can you believe that a company that is forward-thinking enough and technically competent enough to build CREST and a globally-distributed battleserver architecture hasn't positioned itself for the PS4? Not to mention the relationship with SONY. CCP's MO is this: Do a lot of work behind the scenes and then release quickly, over-delivering on expectations. The list of CCP's technical accomplishments is impressive. It would be foolish to expect things to change now.
