If this is the wrong forum, I apologize. Delete this post and sanction me as needed.
I want to be a legitimate Logistics player. That is to say, not using the Logistics dropsuits for assault-type build (Saw in general that was an issue?) but really helping the team. I'll likely never be a great marksman in this game, so why not find something I could do well?
My problem is... I am quite lost in all of these skills and the market.
Could someone just rattle off a few skills and items I would want to get me started? Or link to a guide if one exists. Most things I have read are pretty heavy in the technical-shorthand of the game, which I'll be honest is tricky for me. They also talk a lot about the future or end-stage build, which isn't too important for me right now.
Of note, I am Minmatar, if that matters.
Thank you! Tim

Hey Tim,
A Logi is really based on the equipment they bring to the battlefield. If squad support is your main goal, then there are 2 things you'll really need. Survivability and Equipment.
Survivability you'll find in the armour and shield sections in dropsuit upgrades. As for equipment, that is also in the dropsuit upgrades tab but I forget which sub-section it's under. It has things like Active Scanner, Nanocircuitry, Uplink Deployment, and so on. These skills typically relate to a peice of equipment in the marketplace.
If you want more details on what these do, there are some guides available if you do a little digging.
But as a note, I still would recommend getting atleast decent weaponry. Squad support is great but you do still need to add to team firepower from time to time. Perhaps try taking up a weapon that fills a role you see lacking in your squad. There are many suggestions for Logi firepower.
Hope this helps get you started :) |

Thanks for the reply Tac Com
So survivability is important... does that mean being Minmatar was a bad choice? I keep running across the note that the Minmatar are paper thin.

How far into the skills have you already gone? Minmatar isn't bad, but it's not the best if you want to be a pure equipment support guy, which it sounds like. No need to fear though, if anything I'm about to say makes you reconsider what you want to put your skill points towards then simply go to Dust514.com, sign in, go to support, and quickly submit a ticket titled "Skill Respec" and state that you are sending it because of upcoming changes to the skill tree. Anyways, to go on to the main point.
If you want to focus around the equipment, the best way to go is Gallente because they get a 25% reduction in equipment CPU/PG once you reach the prototype suit meaning you can make all 4 of your equipment slots prototype equipment and still have enough room for armor/shields and a decent weapon. if you want to go Minmatar you still get 4 equipment slots but you likely will have to make a decision between whether you want top of the line gear or more survivability. Minmatar logistics also get the bonus in that they are faster so you can run around and heal people or pick people up before they potentially bleed out, and they also get a bonus to hacking speed so you can provide support that way as well.
Caldari and Amarr both only get 3 equipment slots max but come with other bonuses. Caldari logistics has the most survivability and Amarr logistics gets a sidearm.
Anyways as far as what skills you should look into getting, besides your obvious dropsuit skills. Get your Armor Repair Skill up to 5, complex armor repairers will be your best friend. Get Armor Plating up to 3, enhanced armor plates give the most bang for buck with that speed penalty Get shield extenders up to 5 for complex shield extenders Pick a weapon and get it to 3 since if you're going max equipment and all these defenses you won't have room for a prototype weapon.
Also note that there are some prerequisites you have to go through. "Armor Upgrades" and "Shield Upgrades" both give you 5% extra armor or shielding per level, it is nice to have but really isn't that much and the points could be better used elsewhere for now. Only get those to the required Level 1 and come back to them later.
Then just pick what equipment you want and get going. Note that you'll probably run out of CPU/PG, but there are skills to increase these (Electronics and Engineering) so manage that as needed. And of course spread out your skill points among all these skills so you have something to use as you progress (don't go Level 5 armor repair right away if you don't have the suit to handle it and vice versa).
Hope that made sense! |

First off, Welcome Secon, this is the right place to ask for help.
Let us go over the Dropsuits
- You are right, Minmatar do have less armor and shields. Though, the trade off is that they are faster
- Amarr are the polar opposite. They have less speed but more shields and armor.
- Gallante have medium speed and better armor
- Caldari have medium speed and better shields
*Of note, different racial suits have different amounts of module spaces. They will reflect the above (I.E Gallante have more module space to upgrade armor)
If you decide to use your SP on the suits with racial bonuses (basic suits do not have these bonuses though, basic cost less SP to upgrade), make sure to read and find out what suit better suits your needs.
It really depends whether you are on the front lines reviving people and capturing objectives, or, repairing people and doing long range support.
Same applies for weapons, you said you are not a marksman; I recommend sticking with the AR. Though, try experimenting with the Shotgun, Scrambler rifle and other weapon types.
You could dual as your squad's AV if you sacrifice your locus grenade in exchange for AV grenades.
Just some suggestions, though.

There have been many great writeups so far about the Logi suits and thier bonuses. But I should probably touch on Minmataar more.
While they don't seem as obvious as being fantastic Logi suits, they are fantastic squad support suits. Gallente get the bonus to equipment fittings, so they will beable to fit better equipment without sacrificing thier fitting. But Gallente suits are slower, and without putting in armour plates or shield extenders, they are very squishy. Put 2 and 2 together and that makes them reletively easy to kill.
Minmataar sacrifices outright equipment superiority for a hacking bonus to take points faster and faster suit speed to help with keeping up with squad members and helping with strafe speeds. Strafing keeps you alive in many cases so this is something that is easily overlooked, but very vital in combat. The hacking bonus is best used when your squad arrives on a point, you focus on hacking while the squad covers you. Your bonus ensures the point goes down fast and your squad can focus on keeping the enemy at bay. Mind you this works best with organized teams but this is the best way to take points. When everyone rushes the hack point all it takes is someone to spawn in with a shotgun to take them all out.
As a dedicated logistics player myself, I'll be specing into these 2 suits first, but for differant reasons. One sacrifices equipment power for squad assisstance, while the other sacrifices support versitility for raw equipment strength and useage.
Hope this helps with your decision. :)

The standard logistics equipment loadouts are drop uplink, nanite injector, and repair tool -or- nanohive, nanite injector, and repair tool. The first one is more useful to your team by providing a spawn point(other suits usually carry a nanohive but if you use a low ammo weapon you will want one for yourself).
As far as suits go you need to look at the stats individually and see what gives you the best perks. Also look at the basic suits to see what you get for them as you will use them occasionally as well.
To be frank the Amarr logistics suits aren't very good for a support role except for the prototype suit(when it gets 3 equipment slots and the sidearm). If you are using a weapon that you are going to need ammo for frequently the Amarr suit is not the way to go as you will need to carry a nanohive as well as your other equipment which will make you less useful in a support role.
At least this build you don't need the armor reppers and can put something else in the extra low slot(your armor self repairs 1hp./s per level in logi suits - fully upgraded it's like a free complex armor repairer).
I chose Minmatar because of the speed. Last build if you armor tanked you were as slow as a heavy which made it hard to rep and revive. I use the extra slot for a stamina enhancer module. |

RedBleach LeSanglant's Logi Code
Learn it
Live it
Love it
And yes, it still applies generally, even with changes made in Uprising. Just ignore skills that aren't there anymore or that are just impossible to reach without some absurd investment. Stick to the baseline skills. |

Thanks everyone for the great feedback.
I had already invested to lvl 3 on Minmatar Medium Dropsuits and last night I started investing in Armor Repair. Will go from there I suppose. Still need a lot of skill points before I get to what I need it seems. Thanks! |

New Logi Code Guide for uprising will be done by the 22nd of May. With my luck CCP will have redone the skill tree by then and I'll just have to rewrite it :) such is life. Here is a piece to help you with your skill progression.
"STAGE 2 Character Building: Basic Skills Skill Suggestions by priority (opinion), "defense is the best offense" Keeping yourself Alive, you can't help anyone if you're dead
Your first purchases are going towards your Racial suit, weapon, and armor. Your equipment is fine for a while and will suffice for repping, rezzing, and resupply for the time being. Since advancing to the Logistics level requires maxing out a single race first and then moving into the logistics arena you need to decide your racial suit variant first. Will you go Amarr, Caldari, Gallente, or Minmatar? Each Basic suit type has itGÇÖs own bonuses in regards to slot layout.
Your basic skills that you should focus on in the beginning will always be your passive skills. Skills that work no matter the suit or modules you are using while you try different suits. You should also note that there are certain prerequisites to get some of the skills.
First Skills Dropsuit Armor Upgrades: +5% dropsuit armor per level GÇô maximize it Dropsuit Core Upgrades: +1% dropsuit cpu/pg GÇô maximize it Dropsuit Shield Upgrades: +5% dropsuit shield per level GÇô maximize it Grenades: lvl1 opens up new equipment Your Weapon to Advanced level: lvl 3
Choose 1 Logistics skill to Max: Repair Tool Operation or Nano Circuitry, maybe play around with the Active Scanner and Deployable Shield (coming soon), etc. This you will incorporate on your suits until you reach the Logistics level.
STAGE 3 Choose Your Race primary focus Play every Medium racial variant to get an idea of the types of bonuses you would receive, and their strengths and weaknesses. You will see how you play with each and the future bonuses of the Logi class. It will take almost 2 million (1,865,920) skill points just to max that race to get to the Logistics class and another 63,000 to get just the first level and have extra equipment slots. Depending on whether you use boosters or not and how much you play that could take a month or more to get there. So, it is a commitment and you will need other skills in climbing to the top. The next few skills should be purchased as you can and while you are saving up for the Logistics level.
Dropsuit Electronics: +5% dropsuit CPU GÇô expensive skill, purchase when fits are lacking Dropsuit Engineering: +5% dropsuit PG GÇô expensive skill, purchase when fits are lacking
At this point you must choose which direction to go while maximizing your chosen Racial Medium. My suggestion is greater defense, and will be listed next. Why? Because you will need better stuff to go along with your awesome suits. A proto suit with militia gear is still pretty easy to kill. I would suggest either maximizing a few of these or at least getting them to the advanced level.
- Reinforce - Depending on your Tank style invest in these which give a bonus for a module type and open up new levels of modules to use: Armor Plating: +2% armor module Armor Repair Systems: +5% repair module Shield Extension: +2% shield module Shield Recharging: +3% recharge module
Choose your weapon and advance a useful trait for it (sharpshooter, reload, capacity, or the weapon class itself). A FPS game is based on killing the other team. Is the distance too great? Getting shot while reloading? Ammo shortage? You know where you are failing the most, take a few levels here to help change that about. You might also try another weapon or get the advanced/proto version of your weapon. Remember, light weapons only.
Max Racial Medium and get Logi lvl 1 At this point you should be beefy enough to handle yourself and help the team. Moving to Max your Racial Suit is a good next move and then on to the Logistics Class. Your secondary skills will increase what you can do for the team, or you can choose to focus on yourself.
Your First Builds if you made it to the Logi level Your basic builds should reflect the code with your weapon of choice and this basic equipment: Your first build is 2 perishable lvl. 1 or greater Logi - Drop Suits with the three equipment slots #1- EQUIPMENT: Nanite Injector, Nanite Resupply (Nano-Hive), Repper (repair tool) #2- EQUIPMENT: Nanite Injector, Scanner or whatever, Repper (repair tool). 1and 2 (how I roll - find your play style) Whatever equipment you choose, or what type of builds you use, if you are a dedicated Logi these are the pieces of equipment that you should be carrying around.
I have found that the best High/Low slot combinations are as follows: High Slots: Shield Extender, Damage Modifier, or another Shield Extender Low Slots: Armor Repper, Armor, Cardiac Regulator, Shield Regulator, or CPU/PGU mods
During your gameplay you will experiment with whether you are more of a tanking character or one that needs some speed, or even one that does better by just staying off the radar. I prefer tank, and it seems that most effective Logis do.
STAGE 4 Choose an Area to Specialize - Rezzing, Rally, and Resupply- Nanites and Repper to lvl 3 to max. GÇô You should have one Logi skill maxed at this point. Get the second to lvl 3. At the logistics level you will be allowed to use more equipment, which means you will need better equipment too. Get some of your Logi skills to at least the advanced level with Nanocircuitry and Repair tool operation.
Advancing to Proto Logi Logistics Dropsuit: Maxed This requires an ungodly amount of SP, over 3 million. It is not for the faint of heart to attempt..." |
