Other than the simply feedback of get better, what do people suggest for fighting these 'proto-suits'? Due to the really lame training grounds to normal game cap I got put in with guys that have much better equipment than I have. I went from having a good k/d in training ground to now going completely the other way. I honestly just cannot kill these guys. Suggestions, or if there are fixes coming to make the newb experience better that would be great. |

Fight fire with fire. Not saying you need proto to fight proto, seen proto suits go down against advanced and standard suits. What I am saying is these people have paid their dues, they played through beta and they are rocking 12m in SP. If I were you I would simply "man up" and take it. Grind the skill points and make your own proto team, get in a good corp and someday that will be you proto stomping noobs in pubs.
Another thing to think about is that kd/r gets you nothing, not even respect. You get no reward, no bonus sp, no isk, certainly no loot, and no visit from Santa claus in July. There is no point in worrying about it. |

Right, so the problem is with 600k sp against 12m sp I have almost no chance against these guys. Obviously this makes winning hard, which in turn makes gaining sp hard..... so the newb experience sucks because this becomings MMO grinding. Not an FPS. |

Play smart is the only advice I can give, stay on the outskirts of firefights and aim for weakened targets, use flanking and hit and run tactics, don't try to out dps advanced and proto suits because you will lose. |

I see what happened here. You think this is an FPS, no it is not quit. It is an MMO/FPS and there is lots of grinding, there will be more to come when more gets added to. This game is equal parts gungame and skill grinding. If you want a regular FPS I would recommend battlefield 3 or any number of modern warfare games. |

I understand that it is MMOish. The whole leveling system attracted me in the first place. It was a different take on FPS games, which I thought would be refreshing. I just didn't expect it to be so much grinding. Besides, it seems counter intuitive to try to attract FPS players and then necessitate excessive amounts of grinding against overwhelming odds. Perhaps they will fix this with better match making capabilities so you don't go against overpowered players on normal games. For instance, in most MMOs they don't pair a lvl 10 against a lvl 40, so why here? They could introduce the typically FPS leveling system that is based on usage of items. That would at least make getting slaughter bearable because you would still gain adequate skill points. Rant over. |

I totally know where you're coming from, man. I can't even get my friends to play this game anymore because they say, "I shoot people and they don't die." And you have to admit, getting the tactical advantage over an opponent, emptying a ton of bullets in them only to have them turn around and kill you in a fraction of the time you spent shooting them... well, that's not very good for morale.
After this update, however, I did notice something interesting. I was very wary of putting my points into things and I didn't do it until yesterday -- most people did it on the 7th or shortly after that. What I found strange was that with militia gear and absolutely no SP used towards skill points, I was still doing pretty well.
How is this even possible, you ask? Well, I like to join squads and talk to people. In about a month or so of playing, I've got 30+ friends and about 5 corps I regularly play with asking me to join. But that's got nothing to do with combat. What does have to do with combat is that I join groups, stick with them, and shoot at the same targets they do. Turns out if 2 people are shooting the same target, it doesn't really matter what suit they're wearing.
I think you know what I'm getting at, but I'll give you my suggestion in a more precise and concise form: 1. Find a role that suits you. Create a militia dropsuit setup with a repair tool or nanite injector, and you will rack up SP regardless of KDR. 2. Always join squads when you play games 3. Always have a mic. You don't need to be super talkative or Mr. Friendly Coolguy, but if you speak up in ways that are helpful in battle, like calling out positions, you'll be immediately appreciated. 4. Always roll with the group. That way when you say "Enemy behind" you're speaking for yourself and for them. 5. If the group you're with is not communicating and not saying in a group, just leave. No need to say a word. It's not beneficial for you to play a team game in a group of people that aren't working together. 6. Ask questions about skill points and gear setups. Most people are more than happy to talk about what's working for them, and on the rare occasion you group up with some beasts that go 12-0 every round, this is very helpful. Definitely take advantage of the trial and errors of other players.
As a wise old man once said, "IT'S DANGEROUS TO GO ALONE." Take this advice. |

*** This is also very important ***
One of the main reasons why I'm still playing today is that I took advantage of a limited-time opportunity. A little while ago, there was a whole week where you got triple SP for every match you played. I also kicked in a 7-day booster at the exact same time.... yeah. I was getting about 15,000 to 20,000 SP per ambush match, and I only get around 5-8 in rankings at the end of the match.
If something like this comes up again, definitely take advantage of it by buying a booster. It is a game-changer. |

I agree with everything you said. I do way better in a squad, but still 1 vs 1 can get frustrating. From an MMO PVP stand point and from an FPS stand point this game is a little off. It seems like CCP needs to figure out if this game is an FPS/MMO or MMO/FPS. I think they'd do better if it was the former. It is possible to combine the two and there are some great mechanics present here, but it is not tailored to an FPS audience, hence your friends don't want to play it.
I came from playing games like battlefield 3 and loved the assault/medic, but it is not as viable or versatile here. Plus, picking the scrambler rifle...not a good choice, cause it is not good right now. So much potential for this game..... |

Others have already given the best advice concerning what to do so I won't repeat it but if you do get the chance to read some of the various posts concerning this matter you will find many people agree that just chucking new players into the deep end of the shark pool is a bad mechanic for player retention.
Many have asked for a new match making system based on different criteria from SP bands to limits based on whether you wear Militia, STD, ADV or proto. There have also been suggestions that the Academy last longer so by the time you leave you will at least be in basic ADV gear.
The final hope is that CCP will introduce a PVE environment that allows players build at least part of the SP via playing against the AI in some form of storyline rather than just PVP all of the time.
The game as it stands is good but rudimentary and very harsh on new players. But for many of us it is our hope for the future and the potential we see in this game.
Hope you find a decent corp to squad with as it makes a big difference when you have 6 players shoot up that protobear when s/he comes calling. |
