Made a mistake and posted this in the "Feedback" section.
THIS POST IS FOR NICHE PLAYERS (and for assault players that recognize importance in game balance and good communication between a player base and a development team). TL;DR further down below.
It is NOT directed at CCP. I'm through wasting time out of my life coming to these forums. This is my final post on these forums period. Uprising just proved how much of a damn the feedback of niche players was worth to them.
I'm able to play just fine. I anticipated the game would become even more Assault role oriented, and I'm happy I changed my play style to Assault accordingly... I've been doing very well ever since.
...Wait, no... I'm not happy. IDGAF if I'm doing well as an assault. How I played and what role I played should have never had to change!
I was a sniper. I took pleasure in Dust's dynamic battlefield... where nearly every combat role could be experienced in a immersive and fulfilling way. You COULD have been the sniper, that supports his squad and team from super long distances. Not anymore... At least, not unless you're running a Thale's every match.
Dynamic sniper positions are gone, because people found it unfair to be sniped from a guy in a mountain, or anywhere else they couldn't easily reach. I tried to counter-argue this, and I tried to fight the good fight for my role on forums, and failed. Now there is no position a sniper can get on me, that I can't simply counter-snipe with my Tactical AR, or get to with ease, and they are relatively so close... there is no tactical penalty for "going out of your way" to get them.
The glory of Manus' Peak.... the actual mountain itself, is gone. That once great mountain is now nothing more than a painting on a skybox in the background! It's when I saw THAT, that I decided to put my points into Assault. The one map. The ONLY map, where snipers can establish complete dominance, was "fixed". Instead of Assault players, as "versatile" as they claim to be, adapting to the map, enough of them complained, and successfully got the map adapted to them instead.
Today, you have some good snipers, saying they're doing well. They claim they like Uprising. Yet play a match with them, and hear them complain about how their sniper rifles do **** damage to assaults. Assaults have HP totals so high they can tickle God's nose and pluck his eyebrows out. They eat sniper rounds and keep on going. (Again, unless it's a Thale's.) But clearly this was considered okay. It's supposed to take 3+ rounds for a sniper with a 5 round clip to kill someone. Fine. Fact and reality accepted. I can adapt. Sniper role therefore dropped. I can take out a chump at a similar range with 4-5 fast rounds with a Tactical AR. Sniper rifles can kiss my ass in this game. There is 100% no purpose to getting a long-range (CHARGED) shot "to finish off or weaken enemies for your squad". None. **** that. **** sniping. I can do the exact same ******* thing on the ground with a Tactical AR, fast feet, and a flanking position. Sniping was something to be reckoned with, when you couldn't easily find and access the sniper. Now it's a joke. A gigantic punch line.
Much better off sniping in Battlefield 3. It makes a difference there, and still takes a measure of skill.
Conclusion and TL;DR... I made some positive contributions to these forums, for the purpose of protecting a dynamic battlefield, in a very fun game, with loads of potential.
Here's one. Something myself and others brought up: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=59539
Here's the feedback getting acknowledged for consideration [post #24]: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=34744&p=2
Here's the result after Uprising launch: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=73902&find=unread
This tells me, that I wasted my time. Every minute, of every debate, of every hour spent in-game "testing", and bringing feedback. Me being a Closed Beta Tester, bothering to argue with Open Beta Testers, to enlighten them about the progress we thought we were making... and even when the Open Beta guys finally saw what the Closed Beta guys were saying the whole time. It was too late, and it was a waste. I took pride in knowing my time contributed was helping to produce possibly one of the greatest games ever made. Instead, everything I ever said here on these forums mattered to the wrong people. It mattered to people, that couldn't change the game; and mattered not, to the ones that could.
I would quit Dust and leave, but I enjoy playing with my corp and alliance. Some of the funniest, goofiest, and yet most professional gamers I've had the privilege of playing with. For their sakes, I will play, and if and when they move on to another game, I will go with them.
But I will never, ever, EVER... post on these forums again.
And I will NEVER, EVER buy Aurum from CCP again. I encourage anyone and everyone that agrees with me to do the same. |

Another example of only one side of the story making it to the community. You see nothing but endless threads from non-snipers about how snipers are ruining the game, and what do we end up with?
Honestly, I think the only thing our current sniper weapons need is a little travel time on the shot, like Forge Gun rounds. With that one change, all the no-skill redline snipers would dissapear, and people like the OP could simply adapt and continue to kick ass. |

Balance wise sniping is fine now, after controls are fixed.
Gameplay wise the route taken is to dumb down the game into objective assault pile ups. A promising tactical layer of field control is now only for railgun tanks.
I dislike it as the whole thinking game of "shall we stress field control or objective dominance" just got nerfed out. The unique strategic evolving battleground was taken out, because it's easier to do an assault focused thing. I think this is a shallow move: think of eve online and what it would be, if only blaster and torpedo ranged ships were in game after playerbase whining their torp raven gang can't hit the sniping rokh fleet. |

Im stick on snipeing but can denie that im less effective than before. Im an ambush sniper (close range, tactical rifle, headshots) but somehow I cant score the same amount than in chromosome.
Its not QQ, im still hopefull, but im not figured out what will be the new meta tactic... |

Sucks for you, it really does. I hate snipers on the other team, but that's because they're doing their jobs right. A corpmate summed up things about good snipers in my last match before uprising, his words were "that thale bastard, wish he was on our team". Snipers had a massively important role in preventing enemy movement, sucks to see them get nerfed like this. |

Well since the update, my girlfriend hasn't picked the game up, and she's my pet Sniper, so I don't have a first-hand view of Sniping in Uprising. I've only seen one Sniper Rifle in the game, and the player using it was in a Militia suit in a 6 vs. 2 against a full squad of Protosuits with only me (on an alt with under 1 million SP), so he didn't really show me anything about how Sniping works. Got a kill with it, but not sure how much effort it took him to do so.. |

had time to dust off my Trusty base sniper rifle this build, and as much as i like the pretty graphics, and the grass ( able to make SOME kills, i found it a nice challenge to lead the target) , the poor thing is gonna have to collect dust in the back of my personal armory.
if the balancing issues can be made before i reach event horizon on my dropships, then i'll give the sniper rifle another go. |

Dude I gave you a +1 and I hate snipers with a passion. But I do support the idea that you should be able to do what makes you happy, and this has very obviously been an infringement upon you. I do not support CCPs move on this even one iota. Snipers did add to the dinamics of the game, and as much as I effin hated seeing you @$$ monkeys up on top of that giant mountain, I respected it as a legitimate tactic. Sorry to see you go. |

I've skilled into sniping, which I don't regret, get to see my head shot and assist count now 8). The issue I'm having is damage seems low compared to last time, but that is being hindered by the weird micro second lag on the game still. Shots that were a given before are missing or blue shielding a lot, a fully shielded Caldari assault can laugh off headshots, light scouts just have to run and the mini lag their sprint causes makes them blue shield nearly every thing. (this isn't my connection, mine more than enough for gaming 45up 12-15 down ping on speed test usually in 50's).
Manus peak map is a great sniping map, if you start from below A, start from above B, it turns crap instantly. a lot of the maps are set to just feeding off scraps tho. Ambush is a hassle due to the "track and field" turbo gaming controllers, Assault AR's need a set RoF until you can figure how to block modded controllers.
But I'm still having fun with it, still getting to suport me team, I just have to accept a lot less shot/hit rate. |

I'm sure it'll be back with the bigger maps, but I don't miss the end of Easy Mode Sniping. It was a stupid system built on glitches, misfiring effects and skyline crosshair scrubbing that sucked people out of the ground game when it needed them most. |

Hmm. Whenever I sniped, I played more of an assault sniper role, using my scrambler when things got hairy, but at more a mid range with my sniper, in AR range, but just moving around after quick kills.
I havent tried the SR this build, but to me, the range decrease across the board would be a HUGE buff to snipers. I guess since I wasnt a mountain sniper, I wont have a problem with the map changes. I should try to snipe again...I have a feeling i will be OP with it since the tact AR's slight range dominance is already insane, I cant imagine the range dominance of the tact SR. |

As much as I hated snipers before (not because they were OP because they did their job for the most part) I will say that at times they made some maps hide in the corner and wait for the shields to run or die...but it was fun and a challenge. I have played several games the last few days and have not seen or been killed by a sniper yet. I am sure I will start to see them soon as the I think the red lining will get even worse now with the range and proto suits everywhere but we will see. I hope they fix it all soon. I would much rather have an ugly game then what we have now. Sniper range, HMG range, AR all of it never bothered me...frustrating at time yes but you just move on and overcome it. |

Yeah like I said, all the changes seem like a major major buff to snipers since the range of other guns has decreased and so has movement speed.
I can't help but think its only the hill snipers abusing redline mechanics and ****** terrain who feel slighted, because logically everything about this build is good for snipers. I guess, if you were so far out of combat nobody aside from other snipers shot at you, these changes wouldnt impact you. But if you were like me when I ever sniped, and did so from a pretty close range, and in the thick of things, this change is huge.
God, this thread makes me want to try sniping again. Seems like it should be way easier. |

Hmm. Interesting post Jath, sorry to see you fall from our ranks I agree, probably less emphatically, that the role has been diminished in uprising. I've just put quite a few skill points into the sniper skills again this build, and I'm finding myself very ambivalent about it at the moment. Here are a number of the changes I've noticed initially:
1. Maps have changed for the worse. Where are the overwatch positions? I don't feel like I can take good advantage of my range anymore, limited as it is compared to chromosome. Also, finding I have trouble rendering players past a certain range? 2. Hit boxes on players seem smaller. Shooting the "gimme" shots that I made 9/10 times in chromosome, and hitting maybe 1/15 in uprising. This is especially relevant trying to shoot people who are sprinting in straight lines. Can't seem to hit them at all, where these shots were very easy in chromosome. I'm unsure at this stage whether it is just be a case of getting used to it, or a functional bug. 3. Increased sway after ADS. This is probably one of the biggest changes that I've noticed, even with SR Operation 5. Definitely something that I'll need to get used to, but this is definitely making quick shots after ADSing a lot harder. 4. While there has been a general increase in FPS (for the very much better), I've noticed that when ADSing at range, players seem to get "choppy" and have a teleporting type effect, which seems vastly different to any lag related movement issues in chromosome. It doesn't feel as though it's latency related, and is quite frustrating. 5. Damage. This doesn't seem to be a massive difference, but it is noticeable. Obviously just the effect of losing the passive weaponry buff, but is something I can live with. However, is much more noticeable with the decrease in SP requirement to skill into prototype suits (basic). Stop running protos you bastards! 6. Haven't had a head glitching issue yet. This makes me happy beyond words. 7. Aiming sensitivity - very uncomfortable at the moment. Probably just an issue of me getting used to it. To those who think that it feels the same or easier: what sensitivity settings are you using?
These are just initial observations, but I feel like it's obvious that a number of factors have indirectly limited the effectiveness of snipers quite a bit. This is obviously very frustrating, but I will reassess how i feel about the aiming and hit changes in a couple of weeks to see if I can get used to it.
