I don't know, I have had someone steal my "****** tank" due to me getting caught on the call in. I tried the same thing (minus hate mail) to get my tank back. He proceeds to drive it straight into the enemy team and gets it destroyed in 3 minutes. Now what the driver didn't understand, was there were modules he could have activated to keep the tank alive. Second, it was a railgun tank I had called in to deal with the enemy tank. A militia fit tank can still cost several hundred thousand ISK and still be extremely effective, but if the person who "saves" your tank has no idea how to regulate modules, understands that not all tanks are blaster tanks, and survivability of a tank isn't regulated to just rolling around murdering everyone, then that investment high or low, is completely wasted. |

My "Cool Story Bro"
Spawn in. There's an empty Sica there. I was tempted to take it but I went off to shoot a turret with swarms. Come back, it's still unclaimed and losing the shields due to the death timer.
So I hop in. Post on the team chat: Sorry but the tank was losing health. Guy responded.
Went on and destroyed pretty much every turret, sniped some jump-roping scout. Then I come across an enemy Sica, and by the active module scheme, it looked like the guy added nothing. But I'm like whatever, ain't mine.
So I have a back and forth tango with the enemy, eventually he decides to pop out of the complex, but I got the jump on him and destroyed the sucker and then a rail turret that went red just before getting killed.
I sent a: I'm very sorry for the loss, then told him what I did with the tank, how much WP it made me. In the end the guy was totally chill. I was thinking "Geez, a non-hatin' blue berry....he's a mellow berry!"

It is this attitude that is going to keep Dust 514 from growing. If CCP wants to cater to their die hard crowd and keep their population totals low, regardless if its free or not, that is entirely on them.
So how about you call in a vehicle let some random blue drive it around and watch what you invested in get destroyed and you have no control over it. Sounds fun right? |

Exactly what I am talking about. If you call in the tank, you want to protect your investment and you are probably aware of what threats you need to be on the look out for. Whenever I see someone "save" a tank, they almost always drive straight into tank traps and get obliterated because they don't pay attention to hardeners, reppers, NEVER aim at AV fits, or even identify what type of turret they have on the thing.
Edit: I do agree that if the person drives well I don't mind. Even if I am in one of the turrets I still keep the tank if it survives. Also I would rather a ****** on my team ruin my tank then a skill driver on the other team get in it. |

Not saying it is anyone's fault or that you should care about taking it. Even good players get caught from time to time, e.g STB always going to the same spot to call in their tanks on a specific map and watching them do it. I always prefer someone on my team taking my tank over the enemy.
I don't quite understand the hostility towards people venting frustration on your part though. |

the damn things locked for 5 seconds after being dropped off, if i jack it in that time and you're near by, i don't want to hear your whining.
and getting killed isn't an excuse, plenty of cover in your red zone to call it in at.
(now if you get splatted by the idiot AI, that's another thing, and if i see it happen, i'll give the tank back)
stupidity isn't an excuse, ****** up plenty of times in this game, i don't go crying about it in the forums, i hop right back in and apply what i learned

The only thing I find of the tank issue to be not fair is when you are standing right beside it and sometimes there is a delay with the RDV over it and not letting you push "O" to get inside and some jerk off hops in it first. |

I noticed especially with dropships that timer delay counts down even with the degenerate blind cat that pilots the RDVs remains over it. Though it has happened to my tank alt as well. I will be standing there waiting for the f-ing thing to move and then I get the "O" and someone is already inside. Or you click the "O" to quickly and get right out and someone is already driving away. Incredibly frustrating. |

I drunkenly drove a tank into one of those holes in the ground by some of the objectives (with the grates n such) and it got stuck halfway into it. After trying to get it out for a few moments, i saw more and more reds approaching, and since i was already taking AV pressure I decided to bail out of the (now) stationary turret. Bad choice, i was gunned down, only to watch them hack it.
It was with a heavy heart that I selected my forge gun fit in the fittings list as I spawned into my uplink overlooking the objective..... |

In the right position a good sniper can pop just about anybody on the map, and the really good ones will know to prioritize and target a red who is running towards his tank. I play as both a sniper and a tanker and have been on both ends of this. This type of thing happens. What I find interesting though, is that you were given a golden opportunity and chose to make an enemy rather than a friend. That's what it really comes down to isn't it?
Personally I wouldn't have sent you hate mail had this happened, but had you saved my tank and let me have it when it was clear I was in the area you would have received a nice thank you.
One last note. Sounds like you don't have tank skills, and skills matter. If he has maxed certain ones he would have been climbing into a very different tank than the one you did. Maybe even one that could help your team to victory.
Just some food for thought.

Where the Burt hurt either learn to deal with it or don't.
Besides that's, it's just ISK... A low amount at that. Them losing their tank ain't nothing but a lesson that they need to learn. Whether or not he does it is on him.

My alt is a tank I am just letting her gain passive SP at the moment. I play a logi and in EvE I have fly mostly a battleship since I am only in CAS (which is fine with me, less drama that way). It is hilarious to see some peoples reactions to comments about a video game and how passionate they are about it. I wish I was back in college so I could write a dissertation about the video game sub-culture that FPS have become. |
