The dev's Planetary Conquest thread has gotten mind-bogglingly huge, so I wanted to start a separate thread to handle just our theories about which region will host the initial wave of PC.
Resources: Ombey's 2D EVE Maps- http://www.ombeve.co.uk Dotlan's EVE Maps- http://evemaps.dotlan.net
Mind you, this is all WILD SPECULATION, but we have a couple of guidelines from the devblog, wiki, and accompanying thread.
Criteria:
- One Region
- Roughly 250 Districts (Planets: Min. 11, Max 62)
- Low-Security Space
- Non-FW (Faction Warfare) Systems
- Maximum Distance for Moving Clones is 7 Jumps
Genolution Stations: Beren Hurin noted that Genolution has stations in a number of different (non-Jovian) regions
- Aridia
- Genesis
- Heimatar
- Lonetrek
- Metropolis
- Placid
- Tash-Murkon
- The Bleak Lands
- The Citadel
- The Forge
We don't know that a Genolution station is a prerequisite, nor do we know that CCP won't add a station somewhere, but there is a high likelihood that the starting region will either contain or be adjacent to these regions.

Im betting a Jovian Region. There's like enough stars for 3 out there (may explain why genolution is selling and buying and of course allow the immortal soldiers to mass exodus into that space since none of the four empires want us.) |

Hmm... That could be, although that would require letting the capsuleers into Jovian space. |

Well they did say this next expansion is going to be like apothrica in how its going to add content for everyone. |

Great, now I have to actually examine Jove regions. [More work] Wait, Jovian space is considered nullsec.
I would consider it null sec for the sole reason nobody knows what the security is there. For all I know with superior jovian technology and lack of pirates it all could be 1.0 over there. However we don't know and concord doesn't rate their systems so 0.0 default. |

It won't be Jovian space. Part of testing PC is doing bombardments with non-FW aligned pilots, and eve players can't get to Jovian space. That area is essentially a sandbox for GMs to muck around in. |

CCP can easily create another off limits region. Or a wormhole sector without wormholes. |

Before the announcement, I was speculating the initial PC test would take place in Jove space (CCP test area where alliance tournaments are held etc). This would remove all exploit possibilities from the eve-dust interaction involved.
I still think this is a possibility. Another one is a lore-friendly lowsec choise.
Hopefully, if player access lowsec is chosen for it, we get to boost technetium moon production in some of the 250 districts. That would provide entertainment in said place :) |

One quick question with a little bit of theory behind it...
why do we have to look at only temperate planets? the mercenaries are wearing Dropsuits.... I'm assuming these Dropsuits are pressurized, self contained units (think about pods)
I don't see why we wouldnt look at rocky masses without any atmo at all (Lunar surface) or a highly volcanic planetoid unable to sustain life but rich in minerals.. (Io) Ice planetoids... (Europa)
I am surprised tbh by the lack of maps with large planets in the skyline... imagine fighting on the equivalent of one of Saturns 60 moons... they range from rocky masses to planet-sized atmospheric such as Titan..
just asking, and no I don't play Eve but my understanding of why podders want mercs to fight is so they can gain control of assets such as mineral rich planets or strategically sound points near gates or shipping routes... |

Lore wise excuses are many and convient, programmer wise is that the content is not ready yet. |

Yes.
That means that the odds are probably Aridia or Genesis. I'm gonna throw down for Genesis. |

-that is Amarr speak for, "You will be our slaves or their food." I don't know how u guys keep buying this propaganda. NOBODY will want us. If our genesis is from the Jove I can imagine the Amarrians being especially fearful. We may even get our own new region in the direction of Jove space. Someone spotted a new nebula from an empire region about a month ago. It's possible something has been seeded for us by the Jove. I'm guessing it's not in a data dump though. |

That would be nice. I wouldn't mind something under Jovian or CONCORD control.
Unfortunately, unless Roden or the Senate wake up, the Federation might lose most of us to some stupid Amarr prayer colony. Then again, it might turn into a pretty bloody prayer colony. Especially if the mercs decide that THEY want to own the planets instead of the Empress. |

Okay... Assuming that we are talking Genesis. The question then becomes will they only open up the contiguous lowsec regions or will we be able to control to either side of hisec space? For non-EVErs, lowsec is 0.4 down to 0.1 with hisec from 0.5 up to 1.0. Nullsec is 0.0 and below.
http://evemaps.dotlan.net/map/Genesis#sec
Looking at the constellation map there are some constellations that have lowsec "landlocked" behind hisec, specifically Mih, Nazdirer, and Ashela. Of course, one of these (Ashela) contains the Genolution stations. This suggests that either (a) we can cross hisec, or (b) only Genolution gets to do so.
These two possibilities lead to interesting questions for corporations looking to plan a strategy.
For instance, a corp that wants a nice, safe district (relatively speaking) will want to have as few planets nearby as possible. Some people would therefore assume that a system like Canard would be ideal, seeing how it's in the dead-end EVE constellation (near the system "Dead End", incidentally). However, three jumps away is the Exit system, which has four temperate planets. So the EVE constellation actually has more than twice as many temperate worlds as the Ashela constellation.
As such, the EVE constellation is more likely better for larger corps that are looking to expand rapidly. Similarly, the Aven constellation, which has six worlds and is only a hop-skip-and-a-jump from two other lowsec constellations and on the doorstep of hisec.
If we are able to conquer planets in landlocked systems, I expect that the fiercest fighting will be for the "safest" planet- Vecamia VIII. This is a single temperate world with no other temperates in lowsec closer than FIVE jumps. As such, whomever conquers it will be very unlikely to lose it- remember that clone loss table in the wiki?
Five jumps is 0% survival without a research lab- only 40% with one. |

I suppose, although security status is ultimately determined by CONCORD, so I'm not sure that any unrest in the factions would affect it. I mean, take a look at the Solitude region. It is a pocket of Gallente hisec that you can only access by going through criminal-owned nullsec or Amarr losec. |
