Laser rifles too common these days :/

I played against mostly the same people each time and they had a squad of three with laser rifles.... Its difficult for me to counter that with my laser solo, but it was "fun" all the same. Aside from the occasionally viziam user i can best most laser guys with my standard LR. Lol funny how im a LR specialist but i have yet to go past LR op lvl 1. So what about you guys? seen a lot more lasers lately? Nowadays i cant get into a single match without there being atleast one other LR guy, and thats pretty high considering i almost never saw them before.

This is particularly true for Manus Peak, especially in the area of the map where the Ambush takes place.

It shows that people are branching out of their comfort zones and at least trying something new. CCP put in a lot of great weapons that people have ignored for a significant portion of the open beta. We have been sitting here, in a futuristic world and 90% of the player population has never touched anything other than the more conventional FPS weapons. Until recently I had almost completely forgotten about the Mass Driver, and now in pup games I am starting to see almost everything being represented. I can't wait to see what happens when the new weapons get added, and what else they have planned.

It's like it was designed for the lasers. Btw, we were on opposing sides on one match yesterday on that map. Noticed your laser, and I'm fairly sure you noticed ours too.

But i guess that`s because people (well i guess Raspberries' Blueberries do) tend to stand around in the open taking shots at people in cover and then starting to run around like headless chickens when they get roasted by mah lazors! Mjamm roasted headless chicken! On every other map it's rather situational whether i use the LR or not... i tend to change suits several times a battle but i mostly use AR for day to day slaughtering and LR to pick of annoying people on pipes. I really like the LR but i have to admit i`m not really dedicated to it... As a Logibro i tend to get out what`s most beneficial atm.

But excessive use of Lasers on the map heavily favours Shotgun Scouts as a counter. Mass Drivers and SMGs work pretty well too, although Shotguns are (slightly) better against Heavies.

While this is a great headache for me when playing this map, I think its a good thing. There are 2 reasons for this IMO: 1. Variety is good, I was getting sick of dying only to GEKs 2. While myself (and most other PC corp. affiliated players) would argue specialization is key to success in DUst, being able to do things like pull out a laser for a specific map or terrain type, shows that in some cases and for some people specing into multiple things is viable as well.

But since discovering the map the OP is talking abt I now do. And I'm pleased with the new laser guys. as others have said it adds more variety and plus it's so much fun to see those lasers disappear before my eyes because there out of range, thats when I like to pull out mine with lvl5 sharpshooter and make me some fried merc.

Because most people, aren't familiar with those weapons, there not even in a starter fit which every newbie starts off with and gets accustomed to, not do they have affordable newbie militia variants aside from the shotgun that they can afford and test out. With the LR, you only need to spend the 12k SP and you have a good fit for open maps. Unlike other weapons (well, other than the shotty) you dont need any real specialization to be quite effective with it. Benefits - Low SP cost to be effective (especially if you have other light weapon skills) Low ISK cost for fits (easily build a nasty fit for 30k) Easy to aim with it basically being a tracer Very good at keeping enemies pinned in a certain area as nobody wants to come out in the open against it. Negatives - It cant be used in all situations. Its worthless in CQC A shotty scout is an easy counter given that you can time the fire burst and rush a LR user during reload/cooldown.

LOL yeah this thread is talking specifically about you and few other guys who were using the lasers on that map. Ill admit it was a little frustrating/ironic getting beamed by my own gun, but fair is fair. Besides, its not like i personally did that bad, i just did worse compared to what im used to (going from a normal score of 24 - 2 to 18 - 4 sounds like nothing but pisses me off twice as much). Lol, that being said though, i deffinitly lost three games in a row.

Every map EXCEPT FOR BIOMASS (i despise that map), has specific spots on it that allow the lasers to dominate. The four letter map is great if you can get on top of either C/D or the table top in the center, Communication map seems bad but if you get on the CRU side you can pretty much cut the map in half, The five letter map gets dominated by me if i can get either above B or on one of the pipes, and obviously that sand map just makes the LR OP (not really though). Biomass is the only exception because of how closed in everything is, theres one "decent" spot that you can get to but you need a dropship to get there, and that would sap all of the money you would make off the match anyway.

Yeah it's always fun to see laser battles, ran into a entire squad from betamax using lasers a couple of days ago, they were pretty lethal when they concentrated fire, of course they got torn apart later on in the match when we got up onto the same roof as them

TY! i swear, it costs three times as much money and 10 times as much SP only for you to have like 7 extra shots or something like that! (not to mention that its harder to fit). I just laugh whenever I see someone using an ELM, now i mean the Viziam is worth while, but the ELM just isn't worth it at all. There was a time when the ELM didn't overheat at all, and you know.... Ok its worth it then, but right now its totally pointless.

Just so you guys know (assuming what people say about the broken stacking penalty is true in all). I had a proto suit in the last build (before wipe) and what i like to do with the viziam was put four Complex damage mods on it. No stacking penalty means that is 40% extra damage plus 10% from weaponry skill. 1.5 x 20 = 30 damage..... So what we have here is an assault rifle that has maximum effectiveness at long range, has zero recoil, and three seconds into its charge does 90 Damage per shot...... The cost of that is a lack of health but considering anyone who looks at you dies..... it kind of balances out in your favor. Lol it was fun using that gun like a normal AR too, people just couldn't deal with it! it was kind of like a Mid range sniper rifle only better in every way.

(Not that most of the rest of the maps are much better.)
