CCP Luo Bin discussed the visual effects in DUST 514 and what it takes to make our game stand out when you fire a specific type of weapon. Molten plasma, forge lightning, bursts from the HMG and more visual effects are covered in the latest dev blog right here, on our website.

Oooooh, very pretty. I see the laser rifle has an iron sight, not sure how I feel about that, but I'll wait until I get to try it. I do like the ARs better with ironsights (though I didn't think I would), and the laser's sight looks much better. |

But stop the teasing now. These new graphics clearly show the new build, 7 weeks till fanfest. I'd like to play the new build before I get to Reykjavik and give my thoughts about it directly to you guys in the round tables.

Very nice looking. Is it just me or do the buildings in the screenshots have a bit more flair to them? Particularly in the second pic, they seem to be emanating with an orange glow I have never noticed before.

Looks exactly the same as we have now, it's why all the screenshots to this game do more justice than what is actually displayed
These screens are a single frame and dusts problems have mostly stemmed from not having a good frame rate. These are the same effects in game right now and it's all the same stuff we've seen for a year. We never focus on these single frames so you've misrepresented the design bc these effects take multiple frames that have not been added or tweaked

What another let down
No, that's the new graphics that should be coming next build.
On a side note, I am really liking the new graphics we can see in these screenshots. However, I don't think screenshots do them justice; what are the chances of short video clips showing the effects?
(And on the whole Assault suit with heavy weapons things, there's a third option; the dev taking the screenshots decided to just use a QA/Dev suit based on the Assault model that can use anything. CCP will have to confirm which of the three it is. |

One thought I got looking at the screenshot is about the HMG. I just find it strange that the fire seem to be going sideway, not really exiting the chamber. I would see more something like at 2:26 in this video(center fire more intense in the middle and shape). minigun fire
you can also notice the gun heat builtup in that video at 1:48.
I am just concerned that if the HMG has fire like in the screenshot, we wont see a thing while shooting.

Very good point. As one of the only weapons with a real-world analog, they should try to mimic this more closely.
That said, I LOVE the plasma cloud effect on the ARs! |

The screenshots have always looked crisper, with more dynamic range and contrast than the current version of the game. I hate to be that guy, but the images in the devblog look like our version of the game to me.
And the weapons effects are certainly the same.
I'm thinking the next step up in visual quality, whenever that happens(not holding breath, tbh), will be a noticeably bigger improvement that what we see in these screenshots. |

This just feels like a poor attempt at MAG. The graphics are getting better slowly but you guys are pulling in player from all kinds of backgrounds that are turning around and deleting this game because of the graphics and no attchment customization for weapons or cosmetic customization of weapons. CCP has too much control here. Players want to be able to make a Merc their own and unique. This game just looks like what CCP wants to play and a handful of EVE followers. If thats what your goal is more power to you but this game is Free to Play for a reason and that is how gamers are going to look at it. It is free, not dropsuitmodifications by user, no attachments for weapons for a truely custom gameplay feel for the user, the possibilities within a class seem quite naorrow, that's it. I really hope CCP doesn't become know as the company that set out to accomplish something unprecidented and blew it completely. For users that play only Dust, do you really think we care about EVE online? You just created an attached addition for Eve players with a PS3. For gamers that are strictly PS3 gamers you are running at full sprint in the wrong direction. You seriously need to take a few chapters from Call of Duty, Battlfield or hell any game on PS3 that fires a bullet for that matter. This looks like an over-glorified Nova mini from PSN. The best thing I have seen happen that I was so wow'ed about is where yesterday when I logged on I had almost a million unallocated skill points and this was due to a CCP bang up as usual for not counting Passive SP properly. |

I have to say, between these pictures and a few if the deb vids it seems like the devs are playing a completely different game. The visuals and game play seen so much more crisp and fluid.
I wish my beta functioned the same. I'm still very excited for the game but I'm disappointed regarding the feed back from the devs. There seems to be a mass media blizts to grab new beta players, all the while ignoring those who have been playing the beta more than a week.
There are a lot of great things been said which will come "soon.tm" but we have yet to hear or see any details worth any substance. Those who look forward to playing till release want regular updates, increasing content, more in depth info and something to honestly look forward to.
Come on CCP, we lore loving Eve fans and beta testers want to grow with this game and need you to feed us. |

nice job with the comparison...definetly looks like their version is tweaked. If it's real or not...I guess time will tell. Good job taking the time to put the images side by side.
edit: I just had a thought that your 'fake' comments had me rethink. I'm seriously thinking now that the reason the post gets written and then it's the screenshots that "bottleneck" the process is because they have to doctor up the screens. It makes perfect sense. Getting a screen capture and sending it to be put into the dev blog should never be the bottleneck. Fox Four even joked about it. |

I'm thinking that either this is a CCP-only version that gets dumbed down for the PS3, or else we're getting a graphics boost next build :D |

Well, I appreciate the thought that went into the "plasma swirls" on the AR, but expulsions from the sun are a HORRIBLE analogy to what would happen around the barrel of a rifle discharging plasma rounds.
The plasma will try to form a somewhat curved path along field lines to the nearest ground, which would probably be the outside of the barrel. I'll attach a couple of photos of what I mean.
Here the plasma has just started to form, from left to right. Tendrils are shooting out toward the walls of the containment. If the containment were not there they would extend further out in every direction : Plasma forming
As the plasma is conductive, more power is now flowing through the center of the arc. The tendrils weaken and split : Tendrils splitting
As yet more power flows in and strengthens the main arc, the smaller tendrils coalesce and separate. These tendrils would still be looping back out the sides to the left of the screen if the containment were not there : Weakened tendrils
Finally all of the energy will be flowing through the central arc which by then will be a very bright white. The tendrils will dissipate completely: Completed arc
Now, make it right, Luo Bin! |

Also if you hanged out in IRC you'd know they where considering more suit customization options such as trading in Light and Side Arms for a Heavy Slot, or multiple grenade slots. The UI has been noised down a bit too. The Comm building looks like has been reskinned to account for people being on top of the damn thing allt he time.
I'm with Iron Wolf on this one. After reviewing the pics you posted comparing what they show to what the game actually looks like, I'd say we're definately looking at next build stuff here. |

I will say this though I do expect some sort of level of degrading because how the ps3 handles AA and its pictures which is a bit silly vs the xbox methood but overall it should look closer to the newer pictures than the older pictures. |

To my eyes all the still pictures released by CCP seem like the game was paused and PS3 was given 1min time to process all the textures and effects.
Sadly, I don't believe that quality is ever gonna be possible on PS3 on live action. I wish it would be possible, but I'm afraid people are going to expect too much. |

They're likely running this in preparation for the PS4 or on some equivalent software. |

A few things here.
First I'm going to poke fun at the near full heat buildup f the HMG with full ammo.
Now onto srs bznss.
It was mentioned about the heavy weapons having assault suit hands and hp stats. It's my belief that this may indeed be a new part of the game having any suit or at least a few suits besides heavy have the capability to carry heavy weapons.
