Hey Random menu popping up, we had a good time together - the walks, the talks, the nights spent curled up on the couch in front of the TV. But listen, I'd like to say it's not you it's me, but this time, it's really you. I'd like you not to interrupt me and pop-up at random intervals in the middle of an intense firefight especially when the menu you show me is not related in ANY way to the button i'm pressing.... I know it can be funny sometimes to press L3 and suddenly be asked to call in a LAV, or to press the same button and throw off a grenade in the middle of nowhere just for the fun of it... but enough is enough!
So I thought, maybe you were related to one of my controllers, but loaning a controller from a friend, and using 3 different ones all resulted in you visiting again, it really is annoying, and I think I'm going to get a restraining order against you if you don't stop calling and visiting at odd hours.
It's not me, it's really you.

(if you don't get it) im not having this problem so i don't understand why you are having it maybe your mashing the D pad by accident (d pad are the arrow keys)
check your controller settings in the ps3 menu and in game check its not JUST your ps3 that's doing it
then blame dust :P |

No it's not just him. I have this same problem also. Every now and then (too often, usually at least 1 time per match), I find looking at the map in middle of intense shootout and BAM. Dead.
This has been a new problem for me, starting last week. At first I thought that maybe I press the buttons on the d-pad in my excitement. Then I thought maybe my controller is failing. Nope. It's the game. |

+1 happens to me sometimes, especially when I REALLY open the neocom accidentally or I open the in-game "leaderboard" with the "tab" button (I play with M&K combo) and I try to close it quickly. After closing it, sometimes I hit the "spacebar" (which allows me to jump when I'm playing) and instead it opens the NeoCom (which is opened by pressing "escape" or the "spacebar" while you are in your private room).
A funny thing is that in one match, when I was going to die, my merc always throwed a grenade before diying, without pressing any related button |

My Fix List: Changed sensitivity settings. Set Move settings to minimums even though I hate the Move and refuse to have one. Including the Dead Zone (wtf?). Set the Controller sensitivity to my personal preference (30/30) to start. Then made it faster as I got better. Never connect a second controller even just for charging while DUST is running. Bought new DS3 on sale in January.
I have Never had that problem Since.
Nor the in and out of Sight mode (L1), NeoCom (start), Chat (select), Map (D-Pad Down), Player List (D-Pad Up).
CCP Does have a problem with the controllers resetting themselves. It is mentioned in Technical Supports/Bugs Forum under Updates. It is definitely connected to the Hack Interrupted Bug. Since implementing the above fix list (including the new DS3) it Never Stops but it does give me a blink or looks like it quits but then pops back and continues as if nothing happened. This happens to all UI conditions where one must Hold a button for a long time. I never had/have problems with holding the trigger.

It's a BUG that occurs whenever there is too much acvtivity/graphics onscreen. Unfortunately, it maily occurs during cqc. This has been present since closed Beta. To be honest, I don't think CCP knows what's causing it. This affects KBM users as well. This BUG has caused me to MCC camp more times than I can count. The only people who don't get this BUG are the ones who never really fight, like Snipers. |

This is the most frustrating bug in the game. Mine happens when using the L3 button in a certain way will cause random menu's to open, almost always during firefights. |

Actually OP its not the games fault. Its Actually a design flaw in which the Left analog stick comes in contact with the ds3's button ribbon |

dropping the ds3 can easily depostion this ribbon and pressing L3 will bend it, resulting to your symptoms, basically the left hand side functions going off....nades neocom vehicle request (look how close the button wirings are on that side)
further depositioning the ribbon will cause those copper stubs (which are held by a lousy rubber strip to connect to the mobo) to come in double contact with adjacent tiles making those occurrences more frequent if not fixed
so basically it is really you, and your friends lol |

I'd accept this if it happened in other games - it doesn't. Also some of the menus that pop-up aren't related to d-pad... also other people have this problem. It also happens on brand new dual shock controllers (my friend's).
Well hopefully there's enough information in this thread for them to solve it or find a workaround. |

Yes. I have had this bug happen to all 5 of my Dualshock controllers across my two PS3's; fat and slim. (My wife bought me a second PS3 specifically so we could play DUST together - we love this game that much).
For me, I've only had it cause me to open my map when I hit zoom. And I know my wife has had many problems of spawning in vehicles or giving squad orders while frantically trying to swap equipment. It usually fixes itself upon suit reset (from death or Supply Depot resuiting). It's rare enough that I'm not fuming on the forums, but often enough to be really annoying.

Frame, please be advised that the bug happens even on keyboard. Spacebar (jump->neocom), Shift (Run->team roster?) and stuff like that... |

I use a non-standard XBOX style PS3 controller.
The only iteration of this bug that I experience is the LBumper pulling up neocom instead of looking down barrel- A La Merc Quaters style buttons - randomly on certain spawns.
The fix for the behavior is to open the Map (some have said other menus work) and upon closing, the LBumper works correctly.
I think there may be multiple issues muddling the waters here for diagnosing the bug:
We have the aim down barrel opens neocom bug. Months old- never fixed.
We have controller resetting bug-> hacking stoppages. ID'd and devs addressing.
We have poorly engineered standard dual-shock creating erroneous reports -> any L side button causing random odd behavior.

Like Jak Picholen, I believe we are talking about more than one issue, here.
The "[L1] = Neocom" one, I think is known to be a software bug. The "Oh, goddammit! Just finish hacking the thing!!" one is, according to what I've read, an issue with the PS3 and the controller reconnecting or something like that. I know little or nothing of this one. I haven't had it, but there seem to be numerous threads on it, some of which probably have some good advice.
* The "[L3] or [R3] brings up the vehicle & OMS menu" thing is related to your controller. Like Jak said, they are sort of poorly designed.
I have an older DS3 controller, and it has been doing random button-presses "by itself" for quite a while. I was planning on just buying a new one, but . . .
Saw this video yesterday, and did what the guy shows. Where he uses double-sided tape, I used electrical tape rolled into a little thing about 0.5cm in diameter, and about as long as the little foam pad.
Seems to have worked perfectly, and I have two good controllers again!
If you're having the problem where hitting the [R3] and [L3] buttons causes the wrong button presses, or even just a tight grip on the controller does it, (think tense in-game situations; one forum poster said something about it happening when he's being shot) then this might be worth trying.
Only took a few minutes, and the four-year-old DualShock3 that I thought was garbage now works almost like it's brand new! |

That's really interesting Smoky!
However, I don't think this accounts for all the instances of this problem (OK - I know it doesn't - read on)... This happens when I'm not even using a DS3 Controller... It never used to happen at all, and then suddenly, one build, loads of different people started reporting it.
Now, I know it's possible that my DS3 and Bluetooth keyboard both have the same failure mode which makes random menus appear... But frankly, odds are that the original poster is right. It's a bug. |

I'm sorry, but this issue can't be just a whole bunch of people having "bad controllers."
I have have these instances:
Trying to spring brings up either the leaderboard, the map, or the calling in vehicle menus Pressing L1 to zoom in with a sniper rifle brings up the neocom.
And yes, I do have an old DS3 controller but I have also recently purchased a brand spanking new one and guess what? I still have the same problem. So...it isn't the controller. |

I wish you people would bother to read the post before making stupid responses like this one above. We have stated in so many different threads, including this one, that it affects keyboards as well. They have stated that it does NOT happen on other games. We have also explained that one system will have the problem consistently with multiple controlers, and when the same controlers are used on another ps3 there are no problems at all. |

I play sniper a lot and also make use of the tactical assault rifle on some builds which is essentially a gimped sniper rifle, and I get this problem a lot. A sniper is not a person who is supposed to go toe to toe with anybody...because we'll lose. Our armor is probably the weakest next to logi. Our game is speed and stealth. You aren't so speedy while hitting the RLH button and instead you stand there looking at a menu you don't want while the enemy must think you are brain dead and shoots you in the back while you're standing still. |
