There are a ton of good tips here.
In having competed against and playing with many of the top players and watching their tactics, movements, and gun play the number one thing I noted is their ability to quickly I.D and lock on a target, hit it, and hit mostly the head. No wasted movements trying to obtain the shot and little to no shots off target.
Its amazing to watch and brutal to go against. The fact that many of them do this with a game pad vs. KBM is also impressive.

You have to play smart, change both x & y sensitivities to however YOU feel comfortable with. The whole 0.0 is not for EVERBODY.You gotta think outside the box and read your enemies movements. You gotta think ahead of time so you can predict what the ememy is going to do next. EXAMPLE he might go left, run towards you, move right,BUNNYHOP,hide under cover, hide behind supply depot etc.As for you, you must take advantage of the environment that surrounds you.Hide behind walls, pillars etc if you under heavy fire.If your enemy is low on armor and you HAVE TO RELOAD,switch to your pistol and take him/her down.I am telling you something WITHOUT needing AUR to boost skills up or having skills for that matter.I am telling you a strategy that all fps games can do (if there is crouch included) I have been playing FPS and 3rd person shooter games for over 12 years (I am 21 years old).9 times out of ten I am TOP 3 best players on the scoreboard in all fps & 3PS games that i have played.HARDCORE GAMER OUT |

All my 40+ matches come from running 2 complex shield extenders, and an assault type-II suit. When your shield is ~400 its really really easy to win firefights. Then when your shield is back and you are at full hp in a few seconds you can hunt down your next target. |

how i do it ? with OHK or with out OHK ?
look 1st off most good FPS players dont come at you head on they look for players who are not going to shoot back at them when they shoot at them.
they flank them most use speed and cover be for shooting at some one they all so dont shot unless they know its going to died or why waste ammo and tell everyone around where i am they all so check the player list and try to remeber players and what the last game that they where in vsing them and what they that players used and did in that game. they use skill that they work on every game as well they team up with other like mines
i can keep going on about what makes a good FPS player but 1 thing i do know is there is "NO HONOR IN GETTING KILLS...HONOR ONLY GETS A FOOL KILLED !" |

You need a very high situational awareness, coupled with knowing when to hip fire or aim down the iron sights and releasing again to hipfire when he has lost most of his health, also need to know if you have time to take him out with bodyshots or if you need to headshot.
Swap targets if one is running away from you, to the one firing at you...chances are the guy running won't kill you.
You need to keep track of every red dot that you pick up, be it close or far away and remember it because something thats far away now, will be closeby in 10 seconds, take note and keep ready for it.
In a firefight against multiple opponents, use one of them as cover if it is possible, kill the weakest links first while staying in cover against the strongest guy.
Don't trust random team mates with your back, when you turn around, they are most likely dead.
Keep your back against a wall whenever possible and don't show your sides to people charging at you, strafing is easy but most people are bad at dodging bullets they cant see comming, so if you strafe, do it to the side where you can still see all the enemies.
Don't Panic and dont let them Hunt you, a good assault is the best defense, putting your back towards a squad never ends well.
Best scores so far are 51/0 on skirmish & 44/0 on ambush using my own advice solo without a team or support with a Type-II suit & Assault Rifle, no damage mods.

Which crazy scores?
Since your are a CoD player you must mean kills. Kill a lot of Reds, works for me.
There are Hit Box issues so search for Hit Detection should point you in the right direction. More important to Snipers though. For almost everyone else it is time, practice and upping Skills. Also, not firing from the hip with an AR until that is Skilled up or you run a hip-fire friendly AR. I don't run it so I don't recall the name. Also, if hip firing stop shooting before aiming then start shooting again.
If you are talking about War Points (WP) the number that means something down here in the DUST there are more ways to earn WP than there are ways to Kill Reds.
Logi Bro (Logistics with Injector, Hive and Armor Repair) lets me run near the top or, a few hours before today's shutdown, at the top of the leader board while not killing hardly any Reds. Look under the Training Ground Forum and the many Logi Bro posts.
Scout with stamina, shotguns, mass drivers and speed (Kinetic and/or Stamina Mods).
Heavy allows Forge Guns against Installations and HAVs (Tanks). Plus the wondrous carnage device know as the HMG. Have a Logi Bro at your back and KD ratios can look quite good. If you learn how not to rush in and die that is.
Hints: Capture Letter Objective +100 WP Capture most other Installations +50 WP Although preventing a Red Hack from going through on a Letter nets Zero. It might save the MCC which is worth it a significant percentage of the time.
Squad Leader gets commissions when Squad members Defend (or whatever) specified targets. Squad Members get +20% bonus for doing same. SL commision is mostly half the Squad members' bonus. I haven't rechecked all the values.
Logi Bro Points: +10 ammo resupply from Hives +25 triage for repairing Armor (repping). +35 guardian for repping while target is under fire. +60 reviving downed Mercs (and it saves a clone for the Battle and the ISK for the Merc). No WP for fixing Installations and LAVs do to exploits by scumbags.
In closing, DUST is more than Kills. Spend some time in the Training Ground Forum and quit trying to make DUST more like CoD, MAG, whatever. It isn't and it will never be.
Thank God. |

I get quite a few 'nice shotgun' mails, mostly from people who are also running high on the end of match scoreboard. I always ask them if they are controller kb/m... Have only got replies saying controller.
so i dunno, imo, the fluctuating, low frame that seems to effect mouse sensitivity and the poor hit detection makes it harder than it should be to kb/m well. Haven't seen any kb/m user say it 'felt good', is solid, or anything else positive other than 'it exists'.

complex damage mods.
Not really.. did a 59-1 infantry only with nothing but complex shield extenders. The guns kill fast enough that damage mods aren't required to kill quickly, if u can land a high percentage of ur shot newer players drop very quickly. With shield extenders it helps survivability, so less down time and more time running around alive and killing.
@ OP... IDK, I just figure practice, practice and more practice. I started FPS with golden eye as well but have spent a stupid amount of hours on lots of different shooters.
Being able to tell where to go helps a lot, most times I realize that I'm ahead of everyone else when it comes to getting to the action so i get first dibs on kills; usually. |

A lot of the high scoring players are eve bittervets who are used to pc and kb/m. The kb/m allows for much higher and faster accuracy than the controller, though I haven't seen any really good kb/m players around (with the top end sticking to pc, where the top competition is).
I'm an average kb/m player and the last fps I played was counter-strike back in 2002. From day1 dust I felt I had a severe advantage because of the controller disparacy. Top end pad players are really good, but in general the public games just feel like you can dance around slow turning controllers, whereason a public cs game you generally could not allow the bads to try and shhot you.

Most of the time when you drag the mouse quickly the FPS drops sub 20 making it really hard to accurately AIM for the head, whereas movies ive seen from good controller user people, the controller moves as fast as the fastest run speed and since it isnt getting jerked around as with KB/M, they dont run into FPS issues.
I am used to a solid 60+ FPS, usually 100 capped and i feel handicapped playing at sub 30 FPS, especially when you experience input lag + low frame rate and you need to pull of a long distance AR shot, then i start missing or when there are multiple explosions going on and FPs drops, it seems hitboxes go out the window and no shot connects at point blank range.
Really odd how somehow none of your shots connect. |

The main problem on PC is that MOST good players are closet hackers, its easy to hack on a PC shooter if you pay for premium cheats. Sure there are some legit awsome people but on PC each game feels like playing against some guy in pro league in the Counter Strike era, while his friends barely keep up or drag him down.

A bad KB/M player or a bad Pad player is pretty much the same, they are going to die....allot in APB R you should go into a bronze district (bronze player = bad player), solo with no mods or anything that would give you an advantage, you can mop up an entire opposing team by just walking trough em if you got good skills you can go 30/0 against an entire team easy, solo.
Had one guy msg me once that i should get some backup as it was 6 vs 1, i told em it was ok...he rage quit midgame as i kept jump sniping em
Quote:I'm an average kb/m player and the last fps I played was counter-strike back in 2002.
Stick do Dust, i aint going back to PC either while i have a Nvidia 680 GTX in my system, having played against normal people i doubt i can go back and play against hackers & cheathers with Wallhacks & Aimbots, no spread, Pro settings (acts human but has superhuman aim once locked on) and so on.
And then there are the 5-8 PM's you get each day being called a hacker because normal people on PC cant distinguish between a skilled player and a hacker.
FPS games on PC are a sad bunch, wish it was still the good ol'CS era.

@Rei Shepard: Intresting points, defiantly learning from these!
@Chankk Saotome: Hey, I will check the thread soon.
@ Everyone: This thread has helped me quite a bit and I thank you guys for it. I am now pinning down what kills me most after taking the strategies discussed. I mostly play ambush, thus spawning awkwardly gets me; however, staying around partners are a priority now. To all that discussed KB/M; I may try that to see how it is . Thanks again. |
