I have been playing fps games for a long time (007/Perfect dark/even older) and I am decent at other online fps games (COD/MAG/SE/ect...yeah I mentioned COD but hear me out) ;however, Dust seems different.
I have been here since closed beta and have improved but how do you guys get those crazy scores? It feels weird, like I cant get a grip with aiming at a enemy without firing to the left or right somewhat (Mostly AR but testing other things). I would like to hear you're thoughts. Constructive criticism appreciated.

@Doc Koc: I do play a lot more than fps (A lot of RPG's in the day and now) but I mean in this case trying to build a foundation. I like the idea of skill points on being given a choice on were to put them when you want. Also, thanks man.
@Sigberct Amni: Team work is probably the key. I use logi quite a bit as well but I spawn alone, thus trying to get to the guys. Got to love armor plates. Thanks.
@Tiel Syysch: There is aim assist? Have to check that out. (Serious) Also, radar defiantly. After COD (Horrible reference ) I look back at the radar every now and then.
@Arrant Leet: I do some of that; however, will keep in mind of that more.
@Don Von Hulio: Interesting, I usually run solo but also go for logistics to heal. I guess I am trying to find a middle ground.
@Y0UR NAME HERE: Thanks. I do tend to rush somewhat now knowing enemies spawning around but will change that.
@Sontie: Yeah, I feel the same way sometimes. Being in a decent team. (Focusing on killing the enemy tanks; instead, of letting them roam free).
@Vrain Matari: Sure, I'll try that. I would love to have custom controls .
@DigiOps: Haha. I've been grinding ISK for a while waiting to use it when I get better but testing things for sure. Haven't tried the laser rifle though. Thanks man.
@DJINN leukoplast: Interesting, same. I usually pull up the sights, adjust then open fire but this happens sometimes 0.13 sec http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNbNe4heyFY haha. I will turn off vibration though. Thanks.
To everyone. Thanks for posting. i will defiantly be testing these ideas out. Mostly knowing the map and enemy mnovements is a priority. |

@DigiOps: Hah, I know what you mean by inverted now. I haven't used the LR till release but now I am pretty decent with it. Got to up the range skills though .
@Piercing Serenity: hmm, that will be really helpful. I am actually almost done basic skills or so but sounds is something I will defiantly pay close attention to (Usually play with lower volume). For sure, will be looking up game plays of others. Thank you.
@IRuby Heart: "Switch to you're sidearm, it's faster than reloading" -Shall not name the game . Yeah, I am not rushing anymore...till I get remote explosives haha.
@SoTa PoP: Interesting. Pretty sure you have got me doing that.
@Striker Battalion: Nice, I am practicing head shots right now
@Malcolm Melvin: I am so used to filling sensitivity to max but I am trying to find a suitable speed. Very helpful.
@Th3rdSun: HAHAHA. I know what you mean on certian games .
@Deadeyes Anterie: 400 shields hmmm (I wonder, how the Caldari heavy is gonna be) I will do that soon.
@BaD FuRrYV2: As I read those, I already notice I practice some. For example, # 41 is something I believe. To make something of you're own and be the next you. Thanks.
@Rei Shepard: Intresting points, defiantly learning from these!
@Chankk Saotome: Hey, I will check the thread soon.
@ Everyone: This thread has helped me quite a bit and I thank you guys for it. I am now pinning down what kills me most after taking the strategies discussed. I mostly play ambush, thus spawning awkwardly gets me; however, staying around partners are a priority now. To all that discussed KB/M; I may try that to see how it is . Thanks again. |

KalOfTheRathi wrote:Which crazy scores?
Since your are a CoD player you must mean kills. Kill a lot of Reds, works for me.
There are Hit Box issues so search for Hit Detection should point you in the right direction. More important to Snipers though. For almost everyone else it is time, practice and upping Skills. Also, not firing from the hip with an AR until that is Skilled up or you run a hip-fire friendly AR. I don't run it so I don't recall the name. Also, if hip firing stop shooting before aiming then start shooting again.
If you are talking about War Points (WP) the number that means something down here in the DUST there are more ways to earn WP than there are ways to Kill Reds.
Logi Bro (Logistics with Injector, Hive and Armor Repair) lets me run near the top or, a few hours before today's shutdown, at the top of the leader board while not killing hardly any Reds. Look under the Training Ground Forum and the many Logi Bro posts.
Scout with stamina, shotguns, mass drivers and speed (Kinetic and/or Stamina Mods).
Heavy allows Forge Guns against Installations and HAVs (Tanks). Plus the wondrous carnage device know as the HMG. Have a Logi Bro at your back and KD ratios can look quite good. If you learn how not to rush in and die that is.
Hints: Capture Letter Objective +100 WP Capture most other Installations +50 WP Although preventing a Red Hack from going through on a Letter nets Zero. It might save the MCC which is worth it a significant percentage of the time.
Squad Leader gets commissions when Squad members Defend (or whatever) specified targets. Squad Members get +20% bonus for doing same. SL commision is mostly half the Squad members' bonus. I haven't rechecked all the values.
Logi Bro Points: +10 ammo resupply from Hives +25 triage for repairing Armor (repping). +35 guardian for repping while target is under fire. +60 reviving downed Mercs (and it saves a clone for the Battle and the ISK for the Merc). No WP for fixing Installations and LAVs do to exploits by scumbags.
In closing, DUST is more than Kills. Spend some time in the Training Ground Forum and quit trying to make DUST more like CoD, MAG, whatever. It isn't and it will never be.
Thank God.
(posting and rewording this here)
I wanted to know how some of the other players in Dust do so well without getting steamrolled most of the time (FIrst). ( I had a lot of battles were I just die like crazy. I mean, after a while it kind of gets annoying when others see you and don`t back you up. That is why I was trying to build a foundation for myself)
Through the thread it turned into something of trying to get opinions of others on how to better my game (And others reading this for the same reason) and not get steamrolled so much. It has worked a lot actually. I took a lot of what people have to say and applied it to this game. Right now, I use a heavy with a laser rifle and not run into battles for picking when to fight and not to fight; furthermore, watch for distinct sounds, stay around partners, knowing when to back off and much more.
What I want to really say about the COD part is I play more than just for the kills. I will go for the objectives and blow up that tank regardless if no one else will even when I know I`ll die hoping others will do the same to take it down for it can ruin the whole match. I mostly started with logi a lot to help out team mates and if I go negative there, I won`t really care for replenishing partners is important so the battle can go on; furthermore, their gear is way more expensive than mine but it is a risk I am willing to take. I will go for the objective and build team work. I never wanted to make Dust like the other games. There are tactics in Dust if you`re willing to do so. I do but I play Pub matches, thus I do try as much as I can to help the team in my own way but in my matches 50% of the time we are scattered and sometimes we get hunted down and die alone (Not against running alone, shot gunner time! ). All I am trying to say is I like this game and wanted to get better for If I could not help myself than helping others would be difficult. I really like Dust and will be defiantly be staying here for the long run. Heard about Dust years ago through EVE and I love the concept and play style of the EVE universe.
Also wanted to say, thank you for taking the time to read and also for the info. I am grateful. |

Boomer Dues Mortis wrote:I play a heavy with a 7.65 k/d, what I do is I know my limitations and what fights I can win. I also do not charge straight into a line of fire, I will take an extra 20 seconds and flank them. I go into battle trying to get the best advantage and I try to never go into the open. I play very defensive-aggressive.
I currently run a type 2 heavy A standard hmg 1 complex damage mod 1 militia shield extender 1 basic armor repairer militia grenades
My total suit costs 36k
36k, Damn. I have a dire sentinel so...
-Dire Sentinel -Laser Rifle -Militia armor plate -Militia shield extenders
Under 7500 Isk, give or take if I add basic armor or shields.
You think that is cheap? My logi cost under 3000 isk with everything to repair, revive and try to stay alive . Thanks, I will be looking at damage mods later on when I get better at aiming.

Reimus Klinsman wrote:I haven't found this game to be hard at all. I have around a 4 kdr this time around and it would be higher if I wasn't so impatient. I run with no damage mods and only recently switched to a GEK. I just run at everyone and most of the time they melt like butter.
Any of my gungame rests on years of counterstrike. That's been the only FPS worth a damn all these years.
How much of a difference does the GEK make between the Exile since you don't use damage mods? I mean because I see it is like 1.5 damage more os so? (Thanks) |

@Sergeant Wiznowski: I see and agree with the last part.
@rebecca watson: Mic, yes. Not too sure if I can talk to people with my mic for it is a turtle beach x32 for XBOX but it sort of works for PS3 (I can hear people but cant plug into the controller). Do uplinks disappear after you die. I ask because, my ammo hives stayed for a while after my deaths.
@Rei Shepard: Double damps with a amplifier FTW (First time using ftw, never again )
@Xander Mercy: I like to call it a tactical retreat .
@Sontie: Mass drivers love hitting me in the face, thus only to spawn in a enemy crew of heavies, true story. . Agreed, I kill two reds and suddenly my blues are nowhere to be found, then out nowhere five reds that know what their doing surround me in all directions. I should pack more remote explosives reminds me of this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKnBwZP_xj0, "If I go down, I am takeing them with me"
@Scalesdini: True, have not played SOCOM but I have played others that I did not list; however, prob nowhere the amount of team work it would take. May play in the future, thanks.
@Captain-Awesome. Yeah, defensive with lasers and squads and offensive with scout and shotguns. Nice name, do you watch Chuck?
@CHICAGOCUBS4EVER: This is unrelated but more on the thought process. After watching (Don't care what anyone thinks of it whether hate/like/neutral) Gamer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2g94xQmtHw. I started taking staying alive more seriously in shooters and video games in general even though I have "those games" or the steamroll from time to time. I looked at what kills me the most, now it is mostly spawns and gang ups. Situation awareness is something I have tio wacth for the gamg ups.

NIKIA BETHUNE wrote:I started out pretty bad myself... I'm still bad. But here is what I do. 1. Stay the hell away from blueberries you can't trust them to have your back when you need them to save ur life they will let u down 8 out of 10 times 2. When you spawn and ur alone spin look run to a better position next learn where they will but spawning and catch them off guard. 3. Watch your radar omg I'm assault dropsuit command still at 1 and I sneak up on so many people. 4. Position position position I find its best to play like a shotgun scout I do not run into the middle of the map at no point. I'll skirt the edges looking for those that are alone.(I love rushing groups too) 5.keep this in mide in a engagement (who has the better position) does he have cover? Do i? Is cover close? Avoid fighting in the open if you do make sure ur not there long. 6. This is the same as 4 but it can't be stressed enough FLANK FLANK FLANK don't be a hero fighting head on let ur blueberries do that. Be sneaky. 7. Use ur blueberries as bait. Not sure if its a trap let that blue dot go see first. Not sure if there is a sniper well that blueberries face just exploded so... Ya there is. Blueberries are there as ur pawns use them accordingly. 8. Never stand still. Omg this has gotten me killed more than anything even if u think ur safe to sit on that nano hive keep moving 9.its been said many times but ill say it again don't me scared to back down from a fight if escape is near and it should be if u listened to #4 if someone get the better of me a retreat around a corner and .... W a i t f o r i t. Like clock work every time if ur weaken they chase u some times ur not wait for them to turn that corner u should be in cover.. lol toss grenades to cover ur escape. 10. When taking on groups of 3 or more grenades are ur besty cook them and throw it in someones face use them to cut off a flank... Use them!!
Two more i know u don't wanna read all this
11. Don't take the cru let the enemy have it(ambush) once they have it spawn camp the **** off of them for being stupid. If u see a blueberry hacking it like those 50 points are the world to him shoot him he may stop most Likly he won't or let a red berry kill him for being stupid.
12. Almost forgot the last one.. People stay the hell away form the tanks omg people run towards tanks like their giving away free lil kim ****. Look if tank sneaks up on u and yes they will because some how a super soldier is deaf and dumb and can't pick up a 10 ton wrecking ball heading toward him til its in his a s s... U have a few options a this point first the most likly just die. 2 run for cover.... Not in a straight line either. 3 if ur fast end stick close to the tank and force him out to kill u.
That's all I can think of hope it help. And no if ur with a good squad u won't get many kills but u also won't die as much so.. Yea that why I don't run with unreal all the time til I start dying
Before I read, I will not throw in any info out the window for grammar, I am greatful you took the time to comment.
1. You're right, that has been happening to me more often. I have to squad up soon.
2. When the match starts I don't spawn good gear anymore for that reason. .
3. *Nods* Scout here with double damps and amplifier and shotgun .
4. Nice, have you went up to a crowd an threw remote explosives? (You may find this disturbing or funny. 43 secs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2lkJfslkso)
5. Yeah, I should defiantly not engage on certain points that I do now.
6. #3 ^ when I am on the run.
7. But...but the bears like eating blueberry's
8. Will do. Still trying to fix my strafing for when I am shooting AR, I tend to move one direction.
9 and 10. Will do, how long can you cook grenades till they go off (Not going to be around console till a nother 8 hours, thank you).
Trust me, I will read everything even if it was a wall of text.
11. Interesting and quite devious, will do that. The more I play ambush the more they seem like a death trap.
12. If only I knew what was bleeped . Yeah, high level tanks are coming up quite often. Will do what I can.
Thank you, I appreciate the info and prob will be looking at something bigger in the future for squads. |
