I saw what looked like a test of a new jet in one of my games.
It came flying in across the map, looked like it bombed a turret off in the distance, and then took off.
It was fast, sleek looking, and pretty awesome! Can't wait to fly it. |

You know I actually saw a shadow glade across the ground last night in a match, and it did indeed have a jet-like silhouette to it (seriously, not joking).
Could possibly have been a balboa (or whatever they are called), but at the time I didn't hear one and thought the glimpse of this shadow was strange. |

you can spawn the air strike by the unreleased fighter bombers by doing the following.
1st, you need to be in a minmatar logi suit. You need 700 War points, BUT NO MORE. So don't join a squad. Then , and this is important, you need to get back into the MCC, and wait in front of the door inside for 20 seconds, it will open and you'll be allowed into bomber control. This can also be done by glitching through the door.
Once inside spend your 700 war points and then quickly jump out of the MCC! you don't want to miss the fun! |

Well it most certainly isn't EVE players (If it was seen in the planet's atmosphere and I'm guessing it was) because their ships are made partly out of tritanium... Which explodes when it enters atmosphere. But yes we are getting Sub-Orbital Fighter Ships. If you pay attention in the opening cinematic you can see them near the end. And in some concept arts they are there as well. |

Yanno, you'd think that, but apparently the ORBOMB ammo is made from Tritanium....
Edit: In the lore there is also a weapon designed to blast apart walls that uses Tritanium rods that are exposed to the atmosphere. Not sure why that's relevant, just thought I'd throw it out there. |

This would be the "Spoke Bomb" mentioned in the EVE novels. It's quite nasty and is usually used for clearing rooms, destroying structures, forced entry and clearing debris in search and rescue operations.
As for the use of titanium in ship building, it's generally alloyed with other metals and as such, isn't going to explode if it comes into contact with breathable atmosphere. It's the same concept as magnesium and potassium being pretty volatile metals on their own (try dumping a lump of raw potassium in water, or using setting fire to a pure magnesium ribbon).
When they're alloyed however, they lose a lot of their volatile properties. For instance Magnesium alloys are used to produce lightweight alloy wheels and engine parts for cars and trucks. It's the same for tritanium.
The issue that EVE's ships have isn't based around the volatile nature of tritanium, they simply aren't designed to fly in atmosphere. They're far too heavy, they don't have the right aerodynamic properties, and don't possess the correct control systems for air flow management to be able to manouvre correctly.

Glad to hear a lore backing, even if I was getting my reason wrong the whole time However, some PI facility descriptions mention the use of Tritanium requiring vacuum chambers to avoid issues - Why don't they just alloy it like the starships? That also leaves DUST industry in a pickle - if your HAV can use asteroid-mined Tritanium for construction, what in the Hek system needs to be built specifically on a planet (and hence by us bunnies)? |

I have been saying this for half a decade and nobody in eve listens. Sheesh I mean how else can ships in eve have atmosphere on the inside of the ship. Thank you for finally putting a nail in that coffin.

When and I'm hoping this is going to happen. They do merge both platforms the EVE on-line guys can then use their on-line character to get involved with dust514 and vice-versa then this would turn into a place where we could fight a battle in dust then jump into our Gallente/Caldari Frigate's and scoot on out into the galaxy. It might not happen but would be the first steps into one of the best on-line massive universes to use at your will. To me this is mind blowing I'm new to this I've played EVE about 6 years ago really enjoyed it and couldnGÇÖt afford to keep on at the time. Now I'm just stuck for time, wife, kid, work but when I have time to spare it would be amazing. Maybe wishful thinking but just but.... |

(not really) Confirm/deny this happened? I was joking, honestly. (not really) Confirm/deny this happened? Well it most certainly isn't EVE players (If it was seen in the planet's atmosphere and I'm guessing it was) because their ships are made partly out of tritanium... Which explodes when it enters atmosphere. But yes we are getting Sub-Orbital Fighter Ships. If you pay attention in the opening cinematic you can see them near the end. And in some concept arts they are there as well.
Need citation for the bolded section please.
nvm, I recall the bit as mentioned in the post above by CCP Eterne. It was strictly related to refining or something iirc. |

Back on topic of the OP...I was spawning last night on I believe 'Launch Pad' and saw something that was NOT a RDV leaving the field or a Dropship wiz across the map. Though it moved at about the speed of a Caldari DS with an Afterburner active it was definitely something else, it was shaped like an elongated diamond and was much thinner than either flying machines we currently have in game. Whether the OP was joking or not I saw 'something' that made me say WTF out loud. So is CCP up to some shenanigans, do we have a ghost in the machine or did someone drop some LSD in my can of Coke...IDK. |

They're far too heavy, they don't have the right aerodynamic properties, and don't possess the correct control systems for air flow management to be able to manouvre correctly. and you just knew that all off the top of your head?
Yes
I actually just sat and wrote that out over the course of about 5 minutes to respond to the question
(It also helps that before I came to CCP I was an Electrical & Robotic Engineer with a double masters. Technical backstory is a huge interest of mine, but to be fair I just love New Eden's background, and have been playing EVE since release so I get as involved as possible with all elements of backstory ) |

i think the devs are testing the fighters in public matches. Well everybody time to get our swarm launchers ready. Shot that guy down and bring me his head the reward will be 10 million ISK when you have actual proof of this happening. Proof can be considered as the following: -clear pictures that identify a new kind of vehicle -identification of a Dev flying a weird machine (and no a dropships, LAV's, HAV's, MCC or RDV's do not count) -shoting the "UFO" down with any weapon avaible -Youtube vid of spotting a new kind of vehicle (i will validate the vehicle when i see it)
Further i might have following clues for the "UFO hunters": -If you see a dev in the lobby keep a eye on him at all time -on skirmish look for people who are waiting till everybody else are gone away from the main spawn area to call in a "special vehicle" -keep a eye out for console commands (devs can use them like in the tourny like god mode etc.)
If you cant destroy the UFO (cause its on your team) then get a dropship and follow it around the map and make a vid about it!
And yes i repeat it again: 10 million ISK for that man/woman who can confirm a Dev flying a "UFO" with pictures. |

Why has this post been derailed by CCP intelligence and chemistry conversations?
Are there fighters being tested in public betas at random? That is what this is about, if i wanted to talk about metals and their chemical reactions id head to my university across the street. (Although to be fair, i did find it kind of interesting... but not as interesting as possibly new vehicles) |

Centurion mkII wrote:Guys near all the maps is a swamp. Swamps sometimes cause gas clouds. Obviously it was a gas cloud. Almost. The reasonable explanation would be: It seems to be the shadow of a dropping installation (blaster turret) wich moved fast in a straight line but vanished at the edge of the incidently suddenly dropping and anchoring turret. The shadow fits the sihlouette of the turrets (long center and forward wing like extensions, massive body stern) the pillars an installation rests on. On the old 'manus peak' setting there was a railgun anchored on a hillside (northern base) and one could see very clearly how long these pillars must be because they were exposed on one side (for the gun to be leveled).

gotta be honest, thought your were a kid with a need for attention....
Then I saw it... well heard it, moving fast and high, nothing on radar and NOT a drop ship.
Was a Skirmish and I had just dropped my own dropship on a very high sniper point. Happened twice in that match and I think I have heard and seen a shadow since.
However, I think we could be mistaking dropping combat assets, Rails and Blaster and the like |
