Wasn't on tonight on DUST (I actually work all night, so im rarely on in the afternoons and evenings because that is when I sleep) but they said it was near 99% TiDi
TiDi: Time Dilation that artificially slows down time in order to keep the node the fighting is going on in from crashing out completely, as I recall. Only really experienced it once.
Did their fight clench up the DUST server then? If so then, well, at least CCP knows to have to maybe drop in extra hardware to keep everybody up. |

I'm on eve right now and apparently (APPARENTLY) dust servers are down because of this fight. It's still ongoing around 2700 pilots in said system right now brawling it out with the TiDi. |

To think, all it took to start one of the largest fights in New Eden's bloody history was one simple mistake...
Dust Bunnies, this is a prime example of EvE Online's "Butterfly Effect" in action, with the Titan jump mistake as the catalyst.
The best part about this is that sooner or later, we will be able to take part in battles such as this one, and even create our own Butterfly Effects as well.
Playing a key role in Faction Warfare is only the beginning my friends. :) |

ok I'm gonna try to translate this into dust.
Imagine dust on a planetary scale, tho travel from one battle field to another can only be done through certain routes (gates in eve). The exception to this rule would be super havs super dropships and black ops lavs and tanks(dreadnoughts/carriers blackops ships) they could travel hundreds of miles in seconds as long as they have some one to set up a beacon where they want to go.
These supers are broken into two categories with two tiers each:
The super tanks(dreadnoughts/titans) have around a million HP and have giant rail turrets that hit for 10+k a shot, but track so slowly that they can only hit tanks occasionally and really cant hit infantry but decimate even the hardiest of installations in no time.
the largest of these super tanks can not only teleport hundred of miles but send entire squads to the beacons.
the super dropships(carriers/super carriers) would only be capable of fielding masive numbers of drones but these drones could take out super tanks if not dealt with and are only limited in their ability to destroy infantry and tanks by their limited AI(IE easy to take out but deadly damage and speed)
these suppers would cost in dust any where from 500mil to billions of isk and tmust be manufactured in a process that takes months and holding a territory uncontested for months before that(or having friends that can make them and are willing to sell) |

ok so what happened in the battle was one of these multi billion isk super tanks(titan) was sending squads into a fight in NPC controlled territory(corp match although not for a faction) against other players but instead of selecting bridge(send squad) the pilot selected jump sending this very strong but vulnerable ship into the middle of an enemy fleet.
now normally in low sec there is nothing to keep a titan from jumping right back out so I can only guess that the jump depleted its cap(its a resource that regenerates like shield think of it like the cooldown timers on tank modules or a cooldown time on the turrets) this can take a really long time to regen.
So to protect this ship CFC jumped in every ship it could get it hands on in short notice, the other side wanting to turn a small victory into a large one did the same. Add to this that this happened in low sec where every on with a grudge or desire to get on titan kill mail could get to it and you have almost a third more non alined players in the fray.
The end result? 3261 pilots in that fight 280 ships lost(not counting the vultures) more then half a trillion isk worth of ships and gear lost. Thats about 50bil isk dust equivalent near as I can figure. oh and TiDi(Time dilation a slow down in time on eve servers to prevent server collapse and continued smooth, if slow, combat) was at 99% (battle was occurring at 1% of normal speed) |

You must have missed that one interview,
Doomsdays if ever bought into orbital strike will destroy planets surface entirely, thus not only ending the match early but destroying EVERYTHING on that map including all the buildings and infrastructure. I meant that a piece of planetside artillery punched a hole into the doomsday weapon before they could get a shot off.

This sounds amazing and horrible. Lets also put this into Dust perspective in another way (correct me if I'm off):
You set up a corp match, only there is no player limit so both teams invite all of their friends. Pretty soon instead of 8v8 there are 400 players on each team and the only way to make this work is to slow down time 99%. That means if you jump it will take a couple minutes before you land. And there are so many players and vehicles on the map you can't really move around anyway.
So this sounds dreadfully boring and simultaneously extremely stressful. Can people that have fought in EVE at 99% time dilation chime in what the actual experience is like? |

Time Dilation basically puts the whole graphics engine into slow motion, while the user interface remains at normal speed. If TiDi slowed down time by a factor of two, all ships would appear to move at half speed on the screen, all weapons would fire half as often per minute, all animations would play at half speed etc. It also means that the whole battle would take twice as long to finish. Of course this isn't feasible for an FPS. It only works in Eve because the only thing you really do during combat is issuing comands to your ship (like 'orbit this ship', 'fire this weapon at that target' etc.), then watch the actions play out. It doesn't really matter at what speed you see the action play. And because you're in a huge fight with hundreds or even thousands of ships, there's always something blowing up somewhere, so you don't get bored that quickly. Also, people are shooting at your multi million space ship, this pretty much guarantees your attention. |

Quote:(9:36:27 PM) [email protected]/3171d91f: Well! Last night sure was a thing. Here's a detailed report on what and how it went down from both our side and the PL side: http://themittani.com/news/asakai-aftermath-all-over-cobalt-moon with an important note from Shadoo at the end. We've been long overdue for a serious welp and Goons Are Bad At EVE. Really goddamned bad. We're making some changes up top to prevent our entire strategic strength from being fed into a pointless meatgrinder after a fat-fingered fuckup, but from what I can tell basically everyone (except me lolololol) had a grand old time, and it was good for everyone to collectively Get It Out Of Their Systems (tm). As Shadoo notes, this was a completely pointless fight with no strategic implications whatsoever. Reimbursements are going out. *** This was a broadcast from the_mittani to all-all at 2013-01-27 21:36:27.202155 EVE, replies are not monitored ***

Might be interesting to anyone who doesn't play eve and is curious about these large fleet battles.
Edit: Correction, the video was linked on our forums by PL but it was actually taken by a DND pilot. This is how the battle started and escalated. It went on for something like 6 hours, with the server so overloaded that time was reduced to anywhere from 1/10th to 1/100th of normal.
Another edit: Here's a better version of the same video. Apparently the first one that was uploaded was in a format that youtube didn't like and introduced some artifacts. http://youtu.be/TLqb-m1ZZUA |

Whoa, sorry for the excitement but this is what I love this game for. When they said Dust was directly connected to EVE in every aspect they meant it. Big war going on in EVE, look out dust, here comes some lag!!!
sure that's bad lol but that's so cool the ripples of the battle actually affected dust. Now if they connected it a bit more to the point were corps could be hired by EVE corp owners and send them to battle on a planet as they battle in the air and actually have a... a planetside 2 thing going were the battles not done till either corp wins in either dust or eve than this game will be the BEST GAME EVER!
Imagine fighting on the same planet for days than finally taking the planet! you get a massive sum of cash and you get a nice planet, after a few days and the corp building on the planet you must defend it! boom the landscape went from barren to more industrialized!
wow a little excited sorry lol. |

yes TiDi is a feature to prevent frame chug, disconnects, malfunctioning timers, all the things that made large fleet fights unstable and unplayable. Two years ago half the pilots would have never been able to connect to that system or have a black screen till death, or blown up before they could get to activate reps or even knew they were taking damage. TiDi just slows down all combat related events so they happen in sequence and tranq doesn't effectively get ddosed by its own players.
I wouldn't expect dust to get TiDi just does work for a shooter but planet side 2 proves that large scale battle can be done in a FPS so Im sure we'll get some large scale fun soon(TM). |

fred orpaul wrote:ok so what happened in the battle was one of these multi billion isk super tanks(titan) was sending squads into a fight in NPC controlled territory(corp match although not for a faction) against other players but instead of selecting bridge(send squad) the pilot selected jump sending this very strong but vulnerable ship into the middle of an enemy fleet.
now normally in low sec there is nothing to keep a titan from jumping right back out so I can only guess that the jump depleted its cap(its a resource that regenerates like shield think of it like the cooldown timers on tank modules or a cooldown time on the turrets) this can take a really long time to regen.
Thats about 50bil isk dust equivalent near as I can figure. oh and TiDi(Time dilation a slow down in time on eve servers to prevent server collapse and continued smooth, if slow, combat) was at 99% (battle was occurring at 1% of normal speed)

Doomsdays if ever bought into orbital strike will destroy planets surface entirely, thus not only ending the match early but destroying EVERYTHING on that map including all the buildings and infrastructure. You wont be even able to go back to fight/use the land as its going to require terraforming to fix.
This.
Using the Doomsday Device is a good way to glass a wide area of the planet, and/or shroud it in a thousand year nuclear winter.
If you want to take a planet in a form worth having?
Well, that is where we come in.

The opposition killed his Leviathan Class Titan if I read correctly, hehe.
Actual Goonswarm members here can relate the story better than I, but as I understand it DBRB has a habit of bonehead whoopsies from time to time.
How many Titans got killed in the end of all this?
BTW: To give you an idea of the size of a Titan, the Leviathan Class is 18 KILOMETERS long from bow to stern, with one pod pilot and a support crew numbering nearly one hundred thousand or so. |

If your ship.gets blown up in Eve then you are left sitting in an escape pod, this pod can then attacked and if it gets blown up too then the clone you were using becomes a corpsicle (a frozen corpse) and you reawaken in a clone in whichever station you paid to keep your spare. That's how it was when I played, which has been three or four years ago.
ETA- Clones were extorionally expensive, IIRC, so when pirating the group I played with would usually kill the ship then ransom the pod. If I ever reactivate birdog I have a heap of stinking, rotting corpsicles in Jita (I think). |

Expensive, but always, always keep your clone up to date. losing SP because you forgot and got podded is a harsh lesson.
(a lesson that dustbunny clones do not have to learn in this game) |
