Why is gold not the answer? It is taken from the mine, it is shut up and never released, and yet it is the whole fractional reserve banking system is based on (used by almost everybody). |

Gold is also used in jewelry and stuff.
"A door lock" is probably the best answer since "from which I am never released" makes little to no sense in conjunction with "used by almost everyone" with respect to the riddle's actual solution. |

I believe the answer is pencil lead, right? Funny, I just heard this one recently, would not have known at all otherwise.

I doubt you've never used a pencil, you've had to have used one at least in school. Note the riddle says "used almost by everybody" not "constantly used by everybody"
Yes there are probably people who've never used a pencil in their lives or schools that don't have them. use them, but the majority of people have at least used a pencil once in their lives, right? |

I believe the answer is pencil lead, right? You are CORRECT, my friend! Now try to solve this one:
Take away my first letter, and I still sound the same. Take away my last letter, I still sound the same. Even take away my letter in the middle, I will still sound the same. I am a five letter word. What am I? |
