If ANYBODY shoots/throws/hacks ANYTHING, they should be visible on the radar for ALL players for a certain period of time. Snipers, close range AR players, grenade throwers, whatever... Yet this is not the case. Somehow a player can lob bullets at me in close range without showing up on the radar. May I ask... WHY?!?!?!?!?
CCP, you excel so much at failing core gameplay of a FPS game. Get this shyte right already. If some douche lobs bullets at me, then automatically they need to be revealed on the radar TO EVERYBODY regardless of what crap they are using on their suit or how far away they are.
This games garbage radar system will be its undoing... I can deal with the ******** squad radar Intel only, but at least show the players on the other team who fire at me on my radar.
Either way, any player who shoots, hacks or does anything significant needs to be revealed on the radar for every player in that match. I don't give a **** what crap they have on their suits, this is basic FPS 101 gameplay. I fully expect myself to be 100% revealed whenever I throw a grenade or fire a shot, and that is HOW IT SHOULD BE. |

I don't mind the way it is, with how easy it is to be revealed by any random guy's line of sight its hard enough to be stealthy as it is. |

Well yes the sound should give them away. Even if for sniper it's just a quick blip. Would give a reason to fit the radar extender if shooting gave you away on the map.
Plus it could open the doors for silence weapons. Using a knife would be more effective as more pings would be on the map, making your weapon fair that you can sneak up on him without showing up on the map. Maybe different weapons are louder for a forge gun leaves a long mark on the minimap.
Also some kind of tagging weapon please. |

That is all that matters currently, a player on your squad, other than that a player is invisible no matter what they do.
Plus depending on what they have equipped on their suit, you, and every other person you play with, will never see them regardless if they shoot at you or otherwise.

Hacking is disputed... by throwing nades? Nope, a player needs to be revealed to the ENTIRE other team if they throw a nade or shoot. All part of the risk of revealing yourself by interacting with the enemy via lethal force.
This is FPS gameplay 101, no excuses for it not being implemented.

When people shoot at me, they appear on my radar. I run a heavy suit and I see scout guys running up behind on my mini map when they get to close. Not sure what game your playing. |

SH has been out for almost a year now and it's sales are beyond pathetic, no doubt Lightbox is being shutdown after that failure...
All because they didn't listen to a player like myself who actually knows how online games are supposed to work.

Sony's lack of marketing for new IP is what hurt Starhawks sales, which is other wise a brilliant and fun multiplayer game. It's still receiving updates and is about the only other shooter I play these days. |

Yep. Radar is important. I'm not completely sure on the math of how radar works, but I know the scan profile of a scout is smaller than an assault, logi, or heavy's precision are initially. This means, that unless the suit is right beside you or you are looking at them, you wont see them on the map.
Also the scan distance of a scout is 25m while others are 15m. This means that if they are not in your direct field of vision then you can bet they use that 10+ meters to find the best way to shoot you.
You can however talk to your friends who may not be immediately nearby and have them lookout for you. If they do see a red visually that wouldn't normally show up for you, then it will appear on the map. Additionally you could run with a sensor boosted scout which would help with detection. Also knowing what blues are looking like they are doing on the minimap is important.
Blueberries that are facing the same direction and strafing are shooting most likely. Paying attention to the direction people are going is key as well. This lets you know if they see you or not, as it is possible for someone to show up on your map but them not see you. |

Audiospotting and 3D spotting is just bad in any FPS. You should be able to locate enemy based on shot sound direction not wallhacks.
IMO Dust radar is ok, LAV and HAVs should show more but that's all.

I had a hard time with the radar before I discovered long range scanning skill lvl 3. I dont understand this idea from CCP to make every FPS mechanic look like crap to a new player because that is how were going to make them stay.
The 1950`s radar really it out dated in FPS games and the only one that gets away with it is Alien vs Predator for the movie feel. We have a huge Spaceship in the air i think we have a picture of the map that can show all the thin walls and buildings. I still dont like how the radar and red arrow will display someone that is on the other side of the map versus someone that is right next to me shooting. With all the profile dampeners , they really need to put in a footstep sounds as well |

Also, in eve there is this idea of 'black ops' warfare and signal tanking. They are two different concepts, but I think the paradigm is effective here.
With black ops you get a tactical advantage by having a suprise factor in finding your enemy unprepared for a sudden attack after you uncloak, throw on damage fast, and then re-cloak.
With signal tanking, the idea is a little different, but instead of building a philosophy of having modules that increase your HP so that you don't have to modify incoming DPS, you mitigate the DPS through a combination of tactical avoidance and technical avoidance.
I think the sensor/radar system is similar. The smaller your profile the less likely someone in the vicinity will find you, before you find them. The sooner you see the enemy the better. And two people using this ability would be more than 2x effective if you utilize effective flanking. The scan radius of the scout suit has to be the biggest advantage of its stats. And running around as a scout with assaults will make you a force multiplier for them while they protect. |

But, honestly, what if I skill my my Dropsuit signature to 5 and slap prototype Profile Dampeners, I think my tag is not supposed to be seen even when an enemy looks directly at me. One, you should take it down a few notches there, and this is coming from someone who knows. As for the fact that every time someone fires they should appear on the radar, I am going to say NO! The current mechanics play to the skills that are currently available to the player to dabble in and make choices about. The mechanic you seem to be so fond of is something from COD, MOH, BF style games, which THIS ONE IS OBVIOUSLY NOT!
Another fact of matter, and a point of consideration, is the fact that this game is focused on team tactics and communication, not a single, lone-wolf rambo running in and saving the world ( please refer back to the BF3, COD, MOH reference).
In a game that will have cloaking, a greater ability for stealth (e.g, the profile dampening, profile mechanics, profile signatures, scan precision) and demands team work and communication your demands seem to be an attempt to insert game mechanics that you are familiar with from OTHER games, but they have no place in THIS game.
Again, and this is a caveat, I can not say this enough that this is NOT BF3, COD, MOH, or any of those other games. This is not to say that some of the mechanics are not flawed or broken. There are many that require a ton of TLC. Hit mechanics, telemetry data transference, lag issues, continuous memory bleeds or improper purges. There are many. But to say that another games' mechanics are superior because it worked for THAT incarnation of THAT kind of game, I find a bit narrow in sight. The scope of this game, along with its mechanics, will change as the focus of the game.

In the eve universe the four races use different kinds of sensors. The Amarr use radar, where you signal is based on size and shape. The Minmatar use ladar, where multiple beams of a specific frequency scan in rapid sweeps to find the size and distance of an object. The Gallente use Gravimetric, that looks for nearby collections of mass. Finally, the Caldari use Magnometric, that looks for sources and disturbances in magnetic fields.
None of these sensor types are effected by someone shooting their guns. The types that would pickup shooting would be photonic and acoustic sensors.
Shooting should not reveal you on the map, because it does not change the main attributes of your dropsuit. |

I can agree that if someone is in close range to you & is shooting you, they should appear on YOUR mini map. Not the entire teams, & not from any range. But you have to consider that the radar is tracking the enemies electronic signature, not there physical present like real radar or sonar. So sound & movement should not actually make a difference. I suggest investing some SP into profile analysis, if this really bothers you. |

Eh, in my opinion it's fine the way it is. The radar is already great at picking up enemies, I seem to have a hard time flanking players who pay attention to the radar because I swear all it takes for me to pop up on one is being looked at by another enemy on these open maps. Hacking I def. disagree with, nades, eh, I disagree with as well.

to expand on my earlier post. your suit does have both photonic and acoustic sensors.
Photonic: I see an enemy so he should be on the map.
You're right he should be and you can mark enemies on the field just by staring at them.
Acoustic: The enemy shot his gun so he should be on my map.
Well, no. Just because your suit can hear it does not mean that it know: who it is, where they, nor what way they are facing. |

I don't use knives, but Nova implies explosive damage which probably means shields resist them fairly well. Going through a heavies shield then all the armor could be tough. You problem probably isn't your sensor profile. |

heavys are easy to kill with knife all u need is 1 charge and a melee thats with a lv 2 nova knife it just no matter how many dampers u equip they will always see u if you get too close...

My only beef with the radar is for vehicles. I mean damn, a dropship or tank should be the very first thing to show up on the map, unless they actually have stealth mods or are a stealth variant. Lol i can literally hear the tank or dropship, super loud, but it's not even on the radar!! A dropship, up in the air! Com'on radar, work for me!! As for dropsuits, working as intended =) |

only thing I would like is for there to be a mini map to look at so I don't have to load the big one all the time, and get killed in what I thought was a nice hidden hidey hole. |
