Hello, I have a CRU on my dropship and in no time at all, a full dropship. Now, I was flew over just about everything, and the enemy had all the NULLs, but not a single person dropped out of my ship! I don't know if it's because you are lazy, or just don't know any better, but you can use something called an INERTIA DAMPENER!
Get out of my flying brick next time, I'm not going to land. |

Jumping isn't as great or easy as you might be led to believe. (Let me first state that I jump out of dropships whenever convenient.)
The first difficulty is figuring out where you are and whether or not you want to jump. You can't really see and nothing helps for that (unless the doors on the dropship pop open- then I can see)
After that, you still aren't sure where you'll land because of a little thing called momentum. Once I was flung out at a wide angle directly in front of a red LAV. Funfun. |

You brought up a good point but I do believe there is a solution: Map
You can't do anything sitting inside a dropship, so you do have the ability to safely access your map. There, you can do whatever; See where you are going, predict a path based on flight pattern, or at least give squad orders before you jump.
Of course, you would have to plan ahead and decide when to close you map, and prepare to jump. I do understand where you are coming from though. |

Funfun. dont be a ***** gtfo his drop ship and fight Every time I was on a dropship with both gunner spots filled this build, I jumped within a minute of spawning.
Then soon after, it becomes impossible to use that dropship as a transport because there are 4 people sitting there farming assists.
What works out even more nicely for us is that when someone shoots the dropship on our team down, they get at least 4 kills because the blueberries still won't jump. |

I have used the dropships as transports for taking letters quite a few times. I would love them to work well in that role, but right now, they don't.
Apart from the problems people have pointed above, dropships face 2 other very important problems when trying to act as attack transports:
1. The small size of the squads.
2. Related to 1, if the passengers are randoms, the other problem is the inability of the pilot to talk or signal in any way to those passengers when to jump. The intersquad coms system is still to clumsy and underdeveloped to allow any fast communications between different squads.
And this is a big problem, since the only person that really know when is the right moment to jump is the pilot.
Those problems don't exist in corp battles, but are very big obstacles in pub matches. If your squad is good enough you can get away with it. I mean, I know that if I drop Ofelia GAC and a couple of others heavies in a letter, they will probably take it. But most of the times my squad won't be enough to take a letter against 2 vs 1 odds or so.
Even worst, if you use a CRU to get randoms in your dropship, you'll probably end scattering your team all over the place. Since they can't talk to you, and probably they can't even talk between themselves, they wont coordinate and will jump one by one in different places, so they will end being isolated, disoriented and easy prey.
So right now, if you want to use your dropship as a transport in pub matches, do it only if you can communicate with your squad, and don't equip a CRU. Otherwise, I think you are damaging your team more than helping it.
Corp matches are a completely different story, of course.
Possible solutions could be either of the following:
1. Bigger squads. (My favourite )
2. A button to forcefully eject your passengers. Probably not because the potential for griefing is so great. (Hot drop in the red zone )
3. A message or/and a light that all the passengers could see/hear when they are in the dropship. Like when the pilot pressed square, that made green lights start flashing in the cabin while a loud voice can be heard saying "JUMP!, JUMP!, JUMP!" |

Nope, I flew in ovals over the map a few times before taking a final swarm hit, I assume they were farming WP, and to the second part, hovering is the worst idea, but I did fly over many objectives (but it was line harvest so half of them were covered by the big metal roof)
Also I was flying a practice militia, I wasn't too concerned over losing it |

The dropship is now the laughing stock of the battle field, no guns to defend it with and now trying to use it for its intended purposes is a bigger joke.
I have the same problems with randoms not jumping out, ill give it to them that they have no idea where we are in the sky but the two people on my starter blared turrets should finally figure out that I'm not slowing down to hover, so that all the swarms can crash into me at once.
So I fly around the map with the viper and cru which only cost 86,000 isk and I'm completely useless, I haven't even thought about fielding a Myron cause why should I waste the isk. So I fly around attracting swarms trying to learn there new tracking system until they fix the DSs again. |

I mentioned in the feedback section that with the great missle turret nerf a dropship's guns are now its secondary weapon. The primary weapon is an orgainized squad of infantry. Unfortunately this amunition does not currently exist in public matches, rendering the dropship without a main weapon.
We have at most a squad of four, so with one pilot that leaves three to attempt to take an objective. That might work for lightly defended objectives, but a simple LAV would do in that case. We either need squads of seven or more, or to allow two corp squads to link into a match together.
I'll go further and suggest that the "magazine size" may need to be increased to eight in order to have six jumpers and two door gunners. Modern transport helicopters can carry double that number so it isn't asking too much. |

Hate to bring up battlefield right now, but why not set it up so that anyone on the team can spawn inside the dropships just like battlefied? Also, eventually people are going to realize that staying inside the dropship is a death sentence, and then they'll start dropping out like they should.
If they are worried about balance, why not make the whole team CRU's require an advanced skill? That way you can still do squad only drops, or skill up and drop the whole team. |

They really need an eject button for the pilot. Hit the eject button and non-pilot non-gunners get chucked out.
(Please give the pilot a landing icon so they know exactly where people drop and disallow its use if they are ejected into the redzone.) |

Any decent AV guy has nothing to worry about from DSs this build, if you die from a dropship you are a scrub, you're standing still or are pretty much dead and just so happens that the DS got you and not some other thing.

Actually when i was first playing this game, the few times i did fly in drop ships, there was a huge amount of confusion. I would suggest having a third person camera view if you are just a normal passenger and first person camera view if you are a gunner. That way the passengers can get a clearer sight of when or when not to jump. The button ejection idea could be a huge troll though.
Another idea could be as you said the green light to let them go but a twist would be for those who just sit on your ship and jump off like an hour later, is the inertia dampener weakener |

Actually a third person camera view for passengers is a great idea, +1. But I think CCP has not included that on purpose, so that passengers feel like the cargo they are :P
But it still wouldn't resolve the problem of how can you coordinate people that can't talk to each other so they disembark at the same time. |
