I don't get it, I've never heard anyone moan so much about vehicles in any other game, yet in Dust it seems like they're the worst thing since Satan. Seems to me that instead of crying so much, you ought to go buy yourself a tank, if that truly is the only way to play right? This playerbase kinda makes me sad.
Vegiar/Shaco Mordekaiser
Edit 11/21: You people confuse me, I am now seeing posts about how much missle turrets suck and how much of a problem that is, when before you were all complaining about how it was the missle turrets that made vehicles to good. Make up your mind, or go get a frontal labotomy.
Edit: I felt like this (quote of myself below) would fit in the OP, just so it isn't lost assuming this thread continues to recieve attention.

The real "issue" is just that the game is currently not optimized well enough for the PS3 to handle such urban and cluttered areas, and as such we are stuck with some very wide open spaces in order to acheive playable framerates. I never heard a single complaint about tanks or dropships on Ashland the only issues I ever heard about were shotguns and framerate drops.

Unfortunately some of us didn't skill into tanks. And some, like my self, skilled into AV.
Some of us actually like shooting people in da face with a gun on foot rather than sit in the redzone with a missle tank. (Used missle tank in redzone as analogy and not meaning to say you do it)
ps. Most players get mad and QQ about above stated tanks. |

I realize that, but the whole point of this game is specialization into a specific role, instead of being able to spawn as whatever you want with the best skills and weapons.
My question for you is this, if you want to run around shooting infantry, what compelled you to spec into AV? Clearly that doesn't satisfy your goal.

Technically you can still shoot people with it. Also my hate for tanks last build compelled me to do it. I may have speced into AV but ill run around most of the time shooting infantry with militia suits until a dropship or tank come out..the I bring out the good stuff |

Sometimes you just wana chill and runabout shooting stuff without getting oneshotted again and again.
Get AV game scrub well yea I hear you and your right because its a part of the game thatGÇÖs just not going away I guess.
Anyway I'm just hoping for at least a few maps that are infantry friendly because right now Mechanised is king and your stuffed without it.
I know I know itGÇÖs a beta so letGÇÖs at least nudge ccp in a direction that gives Inf some actual meaning and worth.
Also with missiles being so god like and this horrible build going on for such a long time well I'm betting alot of people are kinda fed up with it all.
I'm a total fanboy and even I hate ccp right now |

The new favorite thing of Vehicle defender : "It's no COD lololololilolo" Welcome to FPS..... Vehicles are overall a NEW THING. and best FPS were vehicle free. If the only FPS you can think of with no vehicle is COD, then you must be a 12y-old that knows nothing about FPS history. |

High-end vehicles in Dust dominate too much in highsec matches, so only miltia ones should be allowed here.

How about the legendary king of competitive FPS ? Counter strike 1.5 / 1.6 / source ? Unreal ? But again, hard to know those when you're 12...
And MAG having vehicle ? :D LOOOL BF has vehicle yes. But they arent dealt with the same way. All vehicles are equals, they can't be tweaked in order to exploit some stats effects. Planetside ? Has a LOT of real buildings and infantry oriented area. And a player cap so huge that vehicles can be avoided if you wish so. I know, i also play PS2 beta.
Complaining about vehicles doesnt mean people want them out. But it's fair enough to want infantry and vehicles to be at least equally usefull in the game. And not feel like you're pretty much useless on foot. Problem has its roots as much in vehicle stats (weak HP, massive damage with missiles) than it is with level design (way too open environment, no actual infrastructures etc..)
But the whole "go back COD lolololililololololol trollolololol" thing is both childish and annoying.

I gotta throw my 2 cents in here, as a driver myself I gotta point out, all you need is a single forge gunner who knows what they're doing to take out just about any tank, except the ones hiding in the red zone. and not much you can do about those, swarms work well too as they'll make 90 degree turns around boxes and mountains just to hit their target. A forge gun is capable of hitting between 1k-5k damage give or take, if you can't deal with a LAV, HAV, or dropship, time to have someone in your squad skill into forges. Not intended to be a hatefull post, or trolling, just want to point out that tanks aren't the death machines you guys are making them out to be. 2 hits, maybe 3 from a breach forge, and any tank is history, dropships are a single hit, as are lav's. all you need is a decent squad to back you up and lure the target towards you. And for those saying tanks have no place in highsec battles, in eve highsec does block out the largest of ships, but these tanks are no-where near that dangerous. Wait untill something bigger shows up. There's always a bigger fish :P |

Grow up. I've played more games in my life than you'll ever see in yours, and thus have some advantages over you when it comes to predicting what kind of gameplay is going to be good and what isn't.
Who gives a **** about games like counter strike and unreal, they're merely refined versions of the FPS genre that got established proper with games like Doom and quake. Someone who hasn't lived through nor been exposed to the large number of paradigms of gameplay has no basis to judge a game that tries to redefine the MMO/FPS experience.
Considering that I had (literally, I can count the floppies/tapes) over a thousand games under my belt by the time I hit 10, and that was before the PC gaming boom of the 90's hit, let's just say that the me at age 12 knew more than you do about games.
But I'll concede the argument if you've played the first Metal Gear, cause then you might actually know stuff. |

why spec into AV when we like to shoot infantry? Simple answer... because you can't shoot infantry with vehicle missile spam all around you, sooooo kill vehicle > kill people |

HAVs can be game-dominating death machines.
They can be little more than scarecrows if a good infantry-heavy team knows what they're doing.
Missile Turrets are the only thing that really needs major adjustments, and anything else about vehicles either needs to be buffed or left alone. Swarm Missile pathing is an issue, and also needs addressing - done properly, this should be part-buff and part-nerf.
I've seen games where one team has a couple of LAVs or Dropships called in, and they get instapopped, while the other team is slaughtering with their 3+ HAVs, but it's Skirmish, and the vehicle-less team wins because nobody's leaving their tanks and the infantry are keeping hold of all the objectives. Generally, a few AV guys, while unable to kill a coordinated tank squad, can force them to keep moving and prevent them from bringing their full power to bear on an objective for long enough to help. If you can't clear the objective for long enough to let your infantry hack it, then you need more feet on the ground and less in the tanks. |

Personally, I have sunk almost all my SP into tanking. I have virtually no suit or handheld weapon skills. So, when my tank gets blown up, it's a long hard road on foot to get enough isk for another. Meanwhile I am getting my butt whupped by ground troops. So, the OP issue is relative. It's what you choose to skill into. I die more when on foot. I get more kills when in a tank. I will say this though. It sure is fun blastin the stuffin outta folks. I love my tank. Makes my day when folks RQ from gettin killed repeatedly by me.

You're all complaining about an issue that doesn't really exist. "Oh man, tanks are to good on these wide open maps that are generally in barren areas not well suited for urban life, talk about OP". When we have more urban areas, things like dropships and tanks will have less use. Sure a tank might be able to dominate a street, but it can't really shoot through buildings. I noticed on that map with the Warbarge - Ashland - tanks were a rarety, and only on the outer objectives, they very seldom went inside the compound.

The game is set up for them to shine right now, the PS3 cannot handle building/graphical clutter (with the lack of optimization), so urban areas are out of the question. As such tanks will shine until further optimization can allow for more crowded maps. |
