those BPOs are crap though. pretty much just a way to save money while still being a notch above milita, unless you are reffering to the black-ops LAV. in which case, if you're good at the game CCP has just made you even better which is complete crap really.

TY that does remind me, that could be why there taking so long moving over to a new server and linking it to eve would take some time to code and set up.

lets just use some up to date stuff to compare it to. COD black ops came in 2010, black-ops 2 just released 2012.
2 years.
2009-2012 = 3
this game is nothing compared to COD right now. the team sizes are about the same and COD has Virtually no lag.
this game is like playing a slideshow sometimes
also there are maps right now that DON'T WORK. memory leaks and whatnot. |

If you want the attention of CCP, I suggest you do the following.
Post in a courteous, professional, and constructive manner. It helps a lot, believe me. Read my diaries and you will see that I have gathered their attention because of how I presented my case regarding my experience with the nova knife. Now they have plans to balance it more in the next update because of that.
However, if you wish to rant, then don't expect any response from CCP. |

since 2003... but they claim to have dev vets that worked on the battlefield franchise.
so if a well versed team can put out a game in 2 years then why is this game so bad in 3 with people who are veterans to the industry...
just saying, this game shouldn't even be being beta tested right now if its not within a year of release. we are already 6 months in. AND WE ARE STILL LAGGING AND NOT GETTING GOOD CORE BASICS.
Betas are for fine tuning. never heard of an alpha testing being called a beta. |

Care to give examples of some great ideas that can help improve lag, hit detection, terrain mesh glitching, and other bugs? Also, CCP has a similar thread covering bugs in the bugs section as well. |

CCP are not veterans to the fps industry. They are veterans of the mmo industry.
but they have vets from the FPS industry working on their mmo. I merely expected more this far in. especially since it was originally scheduled to release in december of this month. I am thinking this game is going to die out in Beta like so many great game ideas before it. |

it's not just programmers. They need designers, animators, concert artists, network programmers and PS3 developers.
They need to fix bugs in this build and add new content which will introduce MORE bugs.
when Dust was first announce in 2009 the Devs said it would connect with EVE online but such tech did not exist yet so they had to research it on their own.
Then came the trouble with Microsoft.......
Microsoft wanted the game to meet their standards with no regards for CCP's interest. Therefore the Xbox version was Canned.
They made a deal with Sony but had no idea how to develop games for PS3. so they had to learn. They also had to learn how to use the Unreal engine 3 which takes time.
all this events would explain the 3 years of development.
bottom line is if you can't wait just leave..... no one will miss you.....

Don't forget the fact that the original Dust 514 was powered by CCP's in-house engine/architecture called CARBON which is the same thing that powers the avatar system in Eve Online and other functions. The reason that got switched over was because of the following:
1. The architecture was too advanced to be worked on so quickly.
2. The architecture is still relatively new even today since it was first introduced by CCP in 2009 during Fanfest.
3. The architecture caused some problems during 2010 when Incarna was released. Problems included, but not limited to, excessively slow loading times, poor optimization of the code leading to some graphics cards actually melting in players' computers, crashes or lock ups, etc.
4. Then came the Jita Riots of 2010 that caused a lot of corporate restructuring in CCP's office that resulted in the lay offs of over 100 people and Dust 514 ending up near the back burner of game development so that Eve Online can be properly iterated on. |

We're here to test for bugs etc., with a slight chance that CCP will implement some of our game suggestions. CCP have their dream as to the game so leave them at it. In the main, our task is bug testing. You compare this to fully released games! What planet are ya on? When, or if as some of ye think, this game is put into general release, by all means rant and rave about the game if it's still buggy. Doing it at the moment and demanding CCP dances to your tune is self entitlement of the highest order. Don't be one of the many on this forum in that group. Hi Belial
This thread seems to have bucked the usual trend and is getting more constructive, rather than less, so I thought I'd weigh in a bit.
Belial Farceus wrote:UPDATE THE GAME CCP! A MONTH OF CRAPDEX IS ENOUGH! I'm fairly certain that when the devs read the forums they perform a kind of "triage" on each post; is it a whine or is it constructive criticism? The whines will be immediately ignored with no further thought: even if there is actual useful content somewhere in the thread, it will never be seen by the devs. Starting with this essentially guarantees that the people you are addressing it to "CCP" won't read it.
Belial Farceus wrote:as just having started college for programming, i have a rough idea. but even still, larger groups of programmers = more code that is being made. This is not as universally true as you might think. Google Fred Brook's "Mythical Man-Month" and you'll probably find his classic quote that "adding people to a project that is running late will make it later". It sounds counter-intuitive but most people with extensive experience in large scale software development realise the truth to it.
Belial Farceus wrote:but they have vets from the FPS industry working on their mmo. There is a significant difference between individual experience and organisational experience. I've worked in many organisations where all the individual experience was available to make good decisions, but the actual decision makers weren't able to draw on it when needed. A good organisation (and I believe CCP is one of these) will suffer from this for a while but will rapidly convert that individual experience to organisational experience.

* in the next release, going through internal QA right now * on the product backlog, planned for an upcoming release * on the product backlog, not in a planned release, but in a "things we'd like to see eventually" state * a good idea that is incompatible with a better one somewhere else * a good idea that is impossible or impractical to implement
It is also important to have a strong vision behind a product, and to make decision/feature decisions within the context of that vision. Ignoring good ideas is a really bad thing; not sticking to your vision is also a really bad thing. Finding the right balance is difficult, but I have confidence CCP have the capability to do it.

that is the thing after about being in the beta for 4 months i am still confused of what CCP concept is. they dont know whether they want to be a FPS or a RPG. they dont know if they want to use the PS3 controller or use a keyboard and mouse. they dont know whether they want large player counts or small player counts. they dont know if they want to be a add on to eve or a full independent game. Sometimes i dont even know if they wanted to make a PS3 game.
I know this sounds harsh but its what i feel at the moment and it makes me sad because i really wanted to play this game and was very excited when i got the accepted into the beta. at this point my best advice is to ditch the connection to eve because it is making tons of problems on game development and player relations. balance it, release it and then slowly work in eve if it needs it. |

By way of analogy: they don't even seem to know whether they want it to be red or yellow; what looks like a lack of vision may simply be a failure to comprehend that the vision is orange. |

I agree to some extent with this comment. So far, Dust 514 is a promising, rather loosely constructed shooter. It's not a bad one, by any means, but it's nothing revolutionary. Its only unique characteristic that we can actually see and use and test seems to be persistent and consumable loadouts, which in the current build admittedly don't seem that important.
I disagree that the connection to EVE should be ditched, but I wholeheartedly agree with the first paragraph - I don't understand the maps or the way they're balanced (they all seem to be outdoors and too big for the number of players), the controller works for most things but feels inaccurate, and the mouse and keyboard is awkward and uncomfortable and clearly integrated as a second thought (prompts cannot be changed to appear as keyboard inputs, so you have to memorize the list of contextual controls AND the simulated controls; also, control schemes cannot be altered, which largely defeats the purpose of a keyboard/mouse combo).
As far as the connection to EVE goes, I just don't know. Either they have internal forms of this connection working already and have fully modeled how they will interact but can't integrate it into the beta for some reason they aren't sharing, or they still haven't figured out how to set it up and have it work properly together.
We'll have to be patient, I suppose. What they talk about sounds like late beta for a revolutionary, AAA mmo, but what we see seems to be early beta for a simple sci-fi shooter. I'm digging through newsposts from the last month to see if there were major updates, but I haven't seen very many worth noting.
P.S.: I suspect that the game's farther along than we realize. I have a sneaking suspicion that we aren't beta-testing the whole game as it stands in development; we're being used as guinea pigs for little pieces of the game that are currently being scrutinized, largely related to weapon balance and battle flow. |

I agree that it's always been like clockwork every six weeks. However, this time we may have to wait a wee bit longer. |

just wanna mention here that most console fps players expect a "Beta" to be just a 2 week demo of a finished game, and thats it.
most console FPSers never see a "closed beta" for their games. they only see Open Beta which nearly always turns out to be just a marketing demo.
thus the whole "it's been in beta for 02487238957638950472895638957328946327 years" argument. |

They didn't begin development on UR3, they started with carbon & switched to the unreal engine at some point.
Most online shooters get ruined by dev's giving the outspoken minority what they want. Personally i'm glad CCP isn't wasting time in these forums. |

Do you know how hard it is to develop a game? as just having started college for programming, i have a rough idea. but even still, larger groups of programmers = more code that is being made. but burn me if you want. THIS GAME IS STILL CRAP FOR HAVING BEEN WORKED ON SINCE 2009. it's not just programmers. The reason that got switched over was because of the following: 1.
I missed that part. Thanks for adding it.
But we all have to agree that Microsoft was an a**. |

Indeed , I think this may also be why Manus Peak map is used so frequently, as I see it imo it is the most controversial map with many places for vehicles to own with cover all around high up on the map, and they want to see if we can ever figure a way to balance it ourseleves or if it truely is fkd |

Speaking of Manus Peak, this reminds me of Plateau (an early version of Line Harvest) back during the E3 build. Plateau had a lot of issues working against it and we were forced to play the map almost 100% of the time during skirmish and ambush matches. People reported a tone of issues such as getting stuck in terrain, poorly balanced attack-defend situations, etc.
Now take a look at the Line Harvest Feedback section of the forums.
https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=topics&f=902
Notice now that the map is so balanced that almost nobody is complaining about it. In fact, most of us want to keep playing on it because our feedback and constant hammering of the map resulted in the most balanced map in the game that has little lag issues, terrain is not buggy anymore, attack-defense situations are balanced, and the map promotes team play rather than lone wolf play and prevent vehicles from dominating the match.
Now... here we are... in Manus Peak doing the same thing. If the above situation is repeated, Manus Peak might soon become everyone's next favorite map. |
