It's not a bad one, by any means, but it's nothing revolutionary. Its only unique characteristic that we can actually see and use and test seems to be persistent and consumable loadouts, which in the current build admittedly don't seem that important.
I disagree that the connection to EVE should be ditched, but I wholeheartedly agree with the first paragraph - I don't understand the maps or the way they're balanced (they all seem to be outdoors and too big for the number of players), the controller works for most things but feels inaccurate, and the mouse and keyboard is awkward and uncomfortable and clearly integrated as a second thought (prompts cannot be changed to appear as keyboard inputs, so you have to memorize the list of contextual controls AND the simulated controls; also, control schemes cannot be altered, which largely defeats the purpose of a keyboard/mouse combo).
As far as the connection to EVE goes, I just don't know. Either they have internal forms of this connection working already and have fully modeled how they will interact but can't integrate it into the beta for some reason they aren't sharing, or they still haven't figured out how to set it up and have it work properly together.
We'll have to be patient, I suppose. What they talk about sounds like late beta for a revolutionary, AAA mmo, but what we see seems to be early beta for a simple sci-fi shooter. I'm digging through newsposts from the last month to see if there were major updates, but I haven't seen very many worth noting.
P.S.: I suspect that the game's farther along than we realize. I have a sneaking suspicion that we aren't beta-testing the whole game as it stands in development; we're being used as guinea pigs for little pieces of the game that are currently being scrutinized, largely related to weapon balance and battle flow. After seeing constant tweaks in the game I can safely say that this statement is true.
Indeed , I think this may also be why Manus Peak map is used so frequently, as I see it imo it is the most controversial map with many places for vehicles to own with cover all around high up on the map, and they want to see if we can ever figure a way to balance it ourseleves or if it truely is fkd |

Speaking of Manus Peak, this reminds me of Plateau (an early version of Line Harvest) back during the E3 build. Plateau had a lot of issues working against it and we were forced to play the map almost 100% of the time during skirmish and ambush matches. People reported a tone of issues such as getting stuck in terrain, poorly balanced attack-defend situations, etc.
Now take a look at the Line Harvest Feedback section of the forums.
https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=topics&f=902
Notice now that the map is so balanced that almost nobody is complaining about it. In fact, most of us want to keep playing on it because our feedback and constant hammering of the map resulted in the most balanced map in the game that has little lag issues, terrain is not buggy anymore, attack-defense situations are balanced, and the map promotes team play rather than lone wolf play and prevent vehicles from dominating the match.
Now... here we are... in Manus Peak doing the same thing. If the above situation is repeated, Manus Peak might soon become everyone's next favorite map. |
