Hmm. Doesnt need to remove the system. Just needs to have a way to allow newer gamers to catch up. Such as a raised weekly cap based on the overall community SP.
Or, just be patient. When starting a new game late, you're bound to have less equipment and skills than older players in any other FPS, or MMO. But quickly, you get to be as tough in ONE specialty as most people. Overtime, the difference between a new player and an ancient one will only be the amount of roles one can fully endorse. |

Good luck with that one. Btw i think the skill system is outstanding, If i wanted to play COD or Halo i would have bought them. Skilling makes me feel like i'm getting somewhere, i'm working towards something, not just working towards my next prestige where i get to start all over. |

It seems they tried to cater to the casuals with the Weekly SP cap, but instead it creates more of a gap.
For example: Casual gamer out of town for 3 days of the week, comes back plays his 4 hours a day, accrues 350k SP before reset on Wed. Hardcore gamer maxes out his SP in 1 to 2 days and basically stops playing or messes with alt.
There will be a huge gap over a period of time. No matter what the casual does (even if he has a week off and plays 24/7) he cannot make up the big SP difference with the hardcore because his SP is capped.
Hardcore players will always be ahead of casuals in SP, no matter what system you implement it will happen. The better solution is no cap, this way if the casual does have a few days off to play he can actually make up some ground on the hardcore players.
You will lose player base by capping the game, I think the beta statistics speak to that. While there are some new players in beta thanks to the codes given out the last few weeks, alot of the long time beta testers have stopped playing because of cap or other games.
You can't do anything about people leaving for other games, but you can for the cap. Players want to be rewarded for playing by improving their characters, not with isk. Isk is just one factor that figures into it.
TLDR: Remove the cap, most of the player base can't stand it. The ones that like it are the minority. |

It's going to happen anyway. As stated hardcores (which I am not) will always be ahead of casuals, doesn't matter what system you implement.
Scrap the SP system, uncap it. They already said they plan on having rated matches. We've seen them briefly last build where if you had on a protosuit you couldnt get into a Militia game.
Think the games were Miltia-T1, T2-T3, T3-Proto etc. If you keep people out of the noob games its not a big deal, hardcores would have to wear the same type gear. Will they have Weaponry/AR prof maxed out... YEP. But we all know how easy it is to kill people with Miltia fits, so they stand a chance. |

The gap doesn't matter if they balance the game right. If some people max out in "only" 3 years, let them. That's still a hell of a run and they are unlikely to abandon that time investment. |

The only weekly cap should be on the maximimum sp up to that calendar week.. So new players should be allowed to grind until they catch up, to the games maximum cap.
So a person two months behind could concievably catch up in a week or two of hard grinding. Cause they would not have any deminshing returns until they were caught up to the rest of us.
This would allow even the most dedicated to miss a few weeks here or there and still be able to catch back up. |

This system in DUST, while slightly different in the specifics of its execution, is the same system other shooters are using. It works for them, why can't it work here.
More playtime = more SP/XP/whatever "points" system the game uses = better gear, or perks, or abilities, or upgrades.
CoD series does it. Battlefield series does it. Transformer games do it. Uncharted series does it. DUST does THE SAME THING. |

The skill system is what makes it great. There simply needs to be more ways of making an impact in games... but as of right now, the games are very vanilla. Team death match and capture the flag. Everything is centered around killing or playing king of the hill. While that is the most important thing in the end, you need alternatives for the newer players to do rather than being forced into standing toe to toe with a squad of prototype SYN\ Imperfects\SI etc like sheep (IN EVERY MATCH). |

I don't think this is a good idea considering its so central to the game, would probably cause a lot of chaos and lots of rebalancing. I did wonder though what it would be like if there were no skills, and only ISK. |

This is the basis of the game. It will not, and should not, be removed. If this were removed, the game would be no longer be unique in the genre.

Isn't this supposed to be taken care of by the high, low, null, security system for match making in the future? I don't really expect the current simplistic match making system to be all we see. |

As was suggested above, don't homogenise the players, balance the matches. New players fight other new players; vets with uber skills and proto gear fight other vets with similar skills and gear. |

The endgame is supposed to be like this with high sec\low sec and then SOV space (the top folks will be in SOV)... but until the game evolves to this (where actual location is factored not simply jumping into game-wide matches) something has be done to categorize it. |

While your thoughts about new players being behind are commendable. I would say it's a definite no. It would make it about like any other fps game. In their infancies that is before they started adding unlocks and ranks to help hold players. Plus there is the simple fact that not many use expensive equipment in a normal fight. Teamwork and tactics win out over equipment. No matter what Regnum tells you. |

Why is it do you think that everyone seems to have forgotten that there will always be a place for players no matter what level of dropsuit or SP you have earned. As you've already seen in the previous build a set of maps to select from based on the gear they are wearing. This eliminate the need to catch up altogether as anyone can opt into a high level game, but not the other way if that is the gear that you wear.
So prototype vs prototype and not prototype vs standard. although this hasn't been implemented yet, it would be simple to do.

There is no way to remove the advantage seasoned players have over new players in any game unless you remove all game progression (both in and out of game, which is impossible because the Devs can't stop players from learning how to play better as they play the game longer).
Also remember that the current SP system (much like the current 0 WP Repair Tool hotfix) is a temporary one. The goal is to have a "pool" system. And while details on said system are admittedly lacking if you think of the pool system employed by the Star Craft II ladder you're likely on the right track.
Besides, CCP has stated it should take about 2-3 weeks of play to reach Proto in a given thing. Meaning that after approximately 9.1 months you are topped out in a given area so anyone new only has to play for that same span and you're equals within that role. Time doesn't keep adding a liner progression to skills in D514, it branches out and starts adding other options on one character. But you can only run one dropsuit at a time no matter what character skills you have.
It's also worth noting that my above timeline assumes that every mod and weapon on that suit is different and thus requires 3 weeks to train. While in reality it would be much faster because many mods share skills and frankly most fits which don't use synergistic mods (like more than one armor, shield, or damage mod for example) are likely to be fail fit anyway. So the actual 'cap time' to optimum will be lower than my listed estimate.

its fine the way it is except the current SP weekly Cap IS utter BS and is makes no sense for Hardcore players other than that the skill Tree/system is fine the way it is . just CCP needs a way to make it so noobs/newcomers can have a way to catch up as well as to not get owned by hardcore players all the time when they are just starting out . |
