Weapons such as assault rifles, laser rifles, snipers, and smgs are hit-scan, meaning that all you have to do is point straight at the target.

First, you might want to turn sensitivity down a little (by turning it up- I heard that the lower the number, the more sensitive it is, and vice versa)
Also: if you're having problems with accuracy, I would suggest using a burst assault rifle- last build, it had a much tighter spread than other ARs (this build, they all shoot perfectly in a line), higher damage because you'll hit less, and since it's burst and not single shot, you can still spray a little for fast-moving targets. |

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one having issues. I normally prefer the PC and Xbox, so I kinda figured that maybe I was just having an issue with the PS3 (I've never liked the controller), I bought an Xbox style controller for the PS3 but that hasn't seemed to help much.
I have been leading with the cross hairs so that could definitely be part of the problem. |

This games aiming is absolutely horrible, and it is definitely not just you. I have been playing console FPS games since at least 1997 (007 Goldeneye), and I have to fight the controls 100% of the time in this game when I play. I think luck has more to do with how well I perform than skill, in terms of aiming.
Some players are able to cope with the extremely awful aiming, including players in my corp... but that doesn't excuse the fact that the aiming mechanics in Dust 514 are one of the worst of any game I have ever played, including Killzone 2 when it first came out (worst console aiming game of all time, with Far Cry 2 in second place). |

The microfreezes in close combat are a nightmare. Its not much consolation to know the enemy likely is having the same problems. I don't mind being killed if I simply screwed up, which happens a lot, but after sneaking up into one shot kill range and then being hit with lag for long enough for them to open fire is really pissing me off (or alternatively it just has enough effect for the weapon to jerk from side to side and completely miss the enemy while warning them i'm there ) |

I got to say that, yesterday, I just could not hit anybody even at close range, shotgun/AR/smg my aim was all over the place. So I resorted to a spot of sniping, same issue, just about to red dot that shiny helmet and aim skipped past target.
I messed around with X/Y sensitivity to no avail.
Eventually, I just got my S/L out and chased down LAV's and tanks or shot at dropships (just to watch the pretty lights in the sky!)
Something is defo off and needs to be addressed ASAP. |

I've tried messing with the X&Y sensitivity as well as turning "aim assist" on and off. None of it seems to make much of a difference. Either way aiming is terrible, staying on target is extremely difficult.
If that wasn't bad enough since they've reduced the amount of isk you get for each round I'm stuck with the standard equipment.
The game still plays more like an Alpha than a Beta. The Beta is supposed to fix minor flaws and weed out bugs. But there is still major work to be done in the game. CCP has a bad habit of pulling the trigger on things too soon, I hope for their sake they're not planning on releasing this to the general public any time soon. |

I ve posted about this problem multiple times. To me it seems that things got a little better since last patch but still there are 'deadzone' and skipping sensitivity issues.
One fact that is useful for new players is that X/Y sensitivity scale is reversed - 0 mad sensitivity, 100 % slow reticle movement but better control. |

as far as hit detection i haven't noticed a real different between mouse or controller. If it is bad on one, it is bad on the other in my experience.
The micro-freezes are what is really driving me mad lately. And they always happen to me right when something important comes into view, as if the game suddenly has to draw something new and the PS3 can't handle it. . . like coming around a corner to shoot someone, freeze, unfreeze, i'm already dead. - drive at high speed around some rocks to race by a blockade of mercs, freeze as soon as they come into view, unfreeze now my steering is sideways and the LAV is stuck right in front of the group of reds-- click- i'm dead. - climb up the stairs to ambush reds at the null cannon, freeze, unfreeze, i'm already dead.
OMG it's driving me nuts. . .

Yep. Controls fells like worse version of aiming lag on the release of BF3 for me. I am overshotting and over correcting all the time.
Hard to say if it's acceleration curves, deadzone, or aiming lag but definitely it is off. Add to that slow movement and turning, too long granade throw animations and R2 "wheel of laggy switching disaster" and FPS fans might not be pleased at all.

This is not an FPS, it's an MMO, or an RPG, or an MMORPG.
Or very occasionally an MMORPGFPS.

Well thing is, this game is being targeted at a mass console audience, if it's going to be successful it has to come more in line with other "AAA" titles currently available.
It occurred to me the other day that maybe the PS3 itself is partly to blame. The system is over 5 years old now, maybe we're reaching the limits of what the hardware is capable of.
Aside from aging hardware all of CCP's servers in London, so anything we do here US side has to go across the Trans-Atlantic cable system along with tons of other traffic. |

The sad part is, everyone (seemingly even CCP) says "Oh next build the aiming/hit detection/lag will be fixed!". However, they have said this EVERY build, and half the time it has been WORSE in the next build. I'm done with this game for the time being, it is a beta and I can put up with all of the balance issues and such, but when the game has been in "closed beta that anyone can get into by preordering" for nearly a year, and the basics still don't work, that's where I throw in the towel.
I can't count the number of times I've been lining up a shot, microfreeze right before I have a bead on them, and when the microfreeze is over I'm 2 inches past them. Usually at this point I'm half dead even if I got the drop on them because of **** poor performance. |

Have you ever played Killzone 2 or Killzone 3? The Uncharted series? The PS3 has proven to be able to pull off some pretty amazing games in terms of graphics, complexity, and performance... Dust 514, in it's current, could probably run smoothly on the PS2 if the coding was correct and they didn't use the Unreal engine.
Although to be fair to the engine, Mass Effect 2 looks and runs beautifully, and it uses some form of Unreal. So the potential is there for this game to run and look amazing on our aging console, CCP just needs to iron out the kinks in their code. With the PS3's limited ability, there is very little room for bad coding, because it simply cannot compensate without having detrimental effects on the gameplay (ie like the severe frame-rate problems).
Because there is nothing about this game right now that even remotely hints that it is going beyond what the PS3 is capable of doing, unless you count inefficient/poor coding which requires more horsepower from the PS3 to run it.
As for the controls, well controls have very little to do with hardware, I could have a FPS game on the NES with smoother and better aiming than Dust.

This problem isn't hit detection...the hit detection has been improved tremendously. The problem is that stuttery, laggy gameplay and jerky movement make it difficult for anyone to keep their camera on target. This in combination with high health, high movement speeds, and glitchy bumpy terrain that is extremely easy to get stuck on makes getting kills unnecessarily difficult and makes this game very frustrating.... |
