I've been playing this game since March ( IF YOU HAVENT PLAYED SINCE MARCH GTFO OF THIS THREAD) I've been here since before people knew sleek AV grenades were OP against infantry.
Yeah I've been watching old DUST gameplay footage for the past 20 minuets and am honestly wondering what the hell happened to this game. It's a shame that a game that had so much promise has gone this far south so fast.
Skirmish was much more structured and consisted of attack and defense. Skirmish 1.0 promoted team play and forced structured battles with actual killzones. (IE. people didn't have to run around the map looking for the next person to kill) Battles were action packed meaning they were never boring there was alway something to do.
Gun battles promoted skill. Yes there was a rock paper scissors concept, but that didn't stop a better player from besting somebody regardless of their dropsuit or it's meta level.
Sniping took skill it wasn't the BS we have today where little kids hide in the hills and average 1 kill per game by getting that lucky kill off of somebody.
Gameplay was fast and frantic. It was unlike any game released within the past 4 years. It took elements of all the great shooters and rolled into one game. This game was everything COD wasn't but then CCP opened the flood gates and let some noobs ruin what could have been one of the most skill based hardcore unforgiving FPS games created.
********************************************************************
Contrast that with what we have now COD:DUST514 edition
wide open maps with little kids hiding in the mountains as snipers camping headglitching into "cover" slower gameplay than killzone 2 (which had realistic recoil and movement in comparison to most games) COD style gunfights where whoever sees who first wins terrible spawn points ZERO RECOIL STANDARD AR's terrible burst rifle (people have been asking for 3 round burst since match) worthless breach AR's gimped beyond the point of use and CCP knows this but allows the noobs to run around with zero recoil standard AR's. Broken tactical rifles in which people are easily able to use mod controllers with ( my friend has tested it with his mod controller)
This game in it's current state isn't fun to play and down right terrible in comparison to what it used to be. CCP seriously needs to stop dumbing the game down to the point where people won't want to bother with this game, because the gameplay will be no different than the CODs BFs and MOH's.

Post this in Feedback dude. I fully agree. Precursor was pretty good though. It showed a return to replication feel of gunplay. And stability :P +1 (I wasn't in here in May, but I was runnning maxed out stuff in Replication. Close enough IMHO.) |

Agree with the zero recoil ARs, open maps, terrible spawns and the old skirmish mode. Breach ARs did get overly nerfed. Sniping is a bit too easy probably. Other than that the gameplay is improved imo. |

i agree the gameplay of the first build was awesome, bar nads and swarms ^^ even tanks were ok and easy to deal with. loved the skirmish mode, saying defenders had the advantage was bull i won as many as i lost in that game mode.
I think the devs have forgotten the lessons they learned from the slight mishap in EvE :P and need to go back to the basics and build up from their again, and stop with the wild buffs and nerfs and instead do one at a time and see what effect it has.
over the last few weeks there has been a number of fumbles and silence on key issues and i here more OH COME ON THAT WAS BULL, than any kind of omg that epic, that i used to here.
the game "is" frustrating to play at the moment and im more looking forward to the new medal of honour game than this at the moment |

Can we stay if we agree, for the most part?
The gun battles point is maybe the the stand out passage in the OP. That is how it should be, but there were an endless number of threads calling for the gear to be nerfed, arguing that the difference between the meta levels needed to be flattened. They argued that the gear needed to be "balanced" so that new players would not be stomped and get discouraged and leave the game.
But a better way to balance a game is to have a dynamic and more open ended, I guess I would call it "combat system" where there is always a chance and room for a gifted player to use their reflexes, intuition, years of training, what have you, to overcome another player's gear and skill point advantage. And to have what seems like imbalance, at first glance. Steep differences between levels of gear. But allow players to overcome that difference.
Something that has been a huge improvement is the draw distance. It makes sniping what it should be, a means of killing someone from halfway across the map. The "head glitching" thing is annoying. But I also find that a lot of snipers are old dudes who just want to chill in a corner and maybe get a few kills while they relax after a day at the factory. No big deal.
One of the biggest disappointments about the current moment to moment gameplay is that there is not a lot to learn. There are not a lot of options for players to improve. I don't think the game is ruined, but at least as far as moment to moment, physical gameplay, the chances that a noob that can't aim (like me) will remain a noob that can't aim are pretty good. There is not much to strive for as as an individual player fighting an intense gun battle, and not a lot of room to grow. Unless you take up flying dropships. But even that has devolved into flying around in circles.
There is an endless potential in team play, tactics and strategery, and social gaming. But that will still be there in Dust no matter what changes are made to moment to moment gameplay.
On a side note, players camped the hell out of the spawn points in replication. I would die to the tune of sometimes thirteen deaths a match, all from getting shot by players sitting at the spawn points that would gun me down before I had a chance to even blink.

I shortened my quote to what I'm adressing.
I liked the old skirmish 1.0 better, was alot more fun, and did rely alot more on team play. I think they should have added skirmish 2.0 as the basic skirmish, but changed skirmish 1.0 to ambush, makes more sense than the deathmatch called ambush. maybe could have changed ambush's current name to something like firefight or something, who knows.
I have heard the tactical rifle is meant to be burst but is instead full auto even on regular controlers. (have not used the rifle myself being a heavy gunner)
I was a noob who couldn't aim when I came here, but it's a free FPS, least it happened in beta instead of full release. and I wouldn't say noobs ruined the game, maybe that CCP tried to make the game alot easier for FPS noobs messed it up for vets, but not the noobs themselves.
EDIT: the no recoil AR does seem like too much, but I don;t think you are actually firing bullets, so no explosion = no recoil, right? |

I have to agree with everything except the skirmish thing. I like the bigger maps and neutral objectives but i think other things like everyone with no skill just sniping really ruins it. Its hard when there are 6 infantry and 10 snipers on a 5 objective map.
Note if you a sniper and offended by this good, get some skill scrubs.

CCP has chosen to respond poorly. I am pretty sure sony wants their fps games to cater to noobs and sheep. (Sony is the reason we didn't get clan battles in mag.) The sad part is that ccp has a choice in the matter being F2P and all. As long as people keep buying AUR I don't think sony cares if the game takes skill or not. ccp has a special chance to make something different here and it feels like they are squandering it.
ccp doesn't understand the state of mediocrity in fps. If the best they can do is another game like CoD that takes very little skill then I will pass. If mag had been anything like CoD, I wouldn't have played it and I wouldn't have cared about the mmo aspects. I would of just went and played CoD. Mag took a little bit more skill and that's what I loved. The mmo aspects was what kept me playing for 1000+ hours.
loldropships, MTACs, jets, and OB will be the killstreaks of this game. Just another shiny pair of keys to keep the sheep occupied so they don't notice the mediocre skilless gameplay.

I cant stand the stuttering rotation. The sensitivity adjustment only affects the movement of the sticks and how far they have to be moved before rotation occurs at a set speed.I hated that about Unreal. It's what made Mag so kick ass and fast paced the target acquisition and movement could be fine tuned with the DS3 controller...pure reflex.
Being old school this game feels like Rainbow 6 on PC I used to play with arrow key strafing. That I feel was CCP's way of making there PC players feel included as most are used to KBM and probably play this game that way.Even if they dont the movement is familiar to them and seems archaic to me.Like going back in time to try and remember something I wanted to forget.
I know you liked the Creo Dron and the drop in clip capacity pissed you off. Which to a point I agree with.I really am sick of the nerfs and buffs....I feel I have to come in here everyday to see what they messed with instead of playing the game. There is NO solo play.....me and my friend use a term called "herd mentality" and he remarked how the game had become.I had to agree. The noobs travel in packs and with there militia Bpo guns all shooting at you simultaneously hoping to be the lucky one who gets the kill. This mentality makes them move around in swarms so when you do flank around to solo cap and objective by the time it would complete for the WP. there on you. This results in having to play some cowardly scout who simply runs around to hack stuff and runs away hoping some other scout wont run over and disengage the hack. With 190HP it stands no chance. Now they want to nerf its left to right strafe speed nerfing it last defense ,its agility.
The Creo and the duvall in previous builds with Assault lvl5 would allow a player to solo hack and objective and when they came, to pick off the brave/dumb ones making the others think that this was not a good idea. The black suit meant something. The other thing that gets me is the HP of the suits I mean it really chaps my ass.The noob has no Assault Rifle skill yet or little and so in close quarter maps with no recoil in the Militia and no Sharpshooter you and him are on equal ground and in that moment when you rotate to engage this new threat he already has you.Him and his 6 buddies. You dont have that take one or two fall back and reengage like in the previous builds .The VK0 got castrated. They took aspiring to be the guy in the black suit out of the game. We cant forget that in mag we had explosive/gas resistance 20 extra health and way faster knife speed for those CQ moments.
Id would have to agree with you.Recently Ive become disenfranchised with the game. Going to EVE gate(EVE forums)and reading threads about us being referred to as "dust bunnies" "minions" and the way they talk about how cheap our gear is.Having to pay 50%collateral to guarantee success in corp matches when they stand to gain the most by controlling the district and its resources. The EVE dust alt ISK transfers...where by the preexisting EVE character can simply give his dust alt millions of dollars just buy running a 30 minute PVE mission.Where by they buy all the skillbooks and equipment. If you know your going to unlock HAV 5/asssault Lvl.5 why not buy 200 VK0S and 100 Gunlogis now for later......All this leads me to believe that this was never a game for the serious FPS players.......it was DLC for console for EVE players. Where they on a PC game would simply use us like pawns....even if you had 3C. As badass as they were, here with you like old. You would never stand a chance. When they just pour ISK into there corp wallets and send tank after tank at you.The serious FPS player as a stand alone DUST player will never be worth more than the DUST your clone treads under his feet.Regardless if there was a subscription on this game or not.Perhaps the previous builds was how the game was to be intended and in the future it would have been subscription based game but the loudest voices won the argument and the EVE player trying to play an FPS was heard the loudest and so this what we have today.
sorry for rambling....I just thought this game was going to be so much more for us.An inclusion. We had our role they had theres.....the lines somewhere got blurred to much.Maybe thats why this has never been tried before.A PC/console game. But if CCP cant do it i dont think anyone else could or will. |

Let's still keep in mind that this is a beta: what we are seeing is still an incomplete product. Skirmish 1.0 could easily wind up existing in some shape or form in the final (before expansions) product. What we are being given right now is what ccp wants to test. They put in recoilless ARs to test how it affects gameplay. The changes they have made to game modes, nerfs/buffs, and anything else changed from build-to-build do not represent the final product. A beta is experimental, they test the stuff that could ruin the game forever before green-lighting it for the final build so they avoid actually, you guessed it, ruining the game forever.
In short, it's a beta: once the game is properly released to the general public, then we shall proceed to rip apart every flaw, every bug, every single thing wrong with it, and ccp will take steps to improve it. Consider what happened with the Incarna expansion in EVE: ccp listened to the players, realized they had messed up, and worked to clean up that mess.
Whatever build you preferred, it was a beta build of Dust 514, not the real Dust 514 (which we still don't have a proper projected release date for, they said Summer 2012 and summer is over so what the hell ccp/sony?). |

I wouldn't take it too seriously. There are players that will push for a particular vision of the game because it will give them and theirs an advantage in EVE. Don't get too discouraged. This game was / is made for console and we will have our chance. Of course some EVE players are going to do everything in their power to take it from us.

What I really miss is the first build I played, I can't remember when that was, or what it was called, but it was the one where you had, like, 2 halves to a skirmish game. The first half you had to attack/defend 2 targets, before the MMC could even think about approaching for docking. Then when the first half was complete, you went to attack the main building (be it biomass or communication) and hack the Null Cannons.
Even though there were quite a few issues, bugs and the like (does anyone remember when calling in one vehicle would cause non stop vehicle deployment, and you'd end up with a pyramid of tanks or whatever? haha). And when someone would run up to you with a SL and instakill you, close range, with no effect to themselves.
I feel like this was the most natural and fun out of all the builds, and gameplay seemed quite balanced(huge)ish. All I'm trying to say is, I miss that game... *crys into soup* |

I am not saying that you should have absolute faith in ccp's ability to do a good job (I am a big opponent of cult-mentalities). What I am saying is that, since this is a work in progress, we shouldn't sound the death knell for Dust 514 just yet. From what I've seen of their track record (and I've only seen so much, so cut just a little slack, no more than that), ccp does listen to their fans when the majority agrees on something. When that happens, they will try to fix the problem. Doesn't mean their attempts will be successful, doesn't mean they won't make things worse, but I think that it still says something about ccp that is better than a developer saying, "screw it, let it work itself out" for a game they are continuously working on.
There is no reason you should a ton of faith in ccp, I wasn't trying to suggest that, and I'm sorry if I gave you that impression. I'm saying that since we are currently experiencing an incomplete product, that we should at least give them a shot.
If this beta is no longer enjoyable for you, than you have every right to stop playing it, because if the game fails to accomplish that, then the game is no longer worthy of your valuable time. |

LOL! When I said this a long time ago people laughed at me. CCP even said that "This is a service side game. Such things cant happen."! Lulz.

The militia AR is the best weapon period. It is the most accurate weapon so far. Who needs to get the upper tier ARs when you can easily use the Militia ARs to get effeciency.
The solution for this is a simple one;- SP based or Skill level based gameplay.
Gameplay 1 : <1,000,000 SP Gameplay 2: 1,000,000 - 3,000,000 SP Gameplay 3: 3,000,000 - 5,000,000 SP Gameplay 4: >5,000,000 SP
Simple no? |

The problem with this that you will cannibalise the player into four separate SP areas, before you have implemented possible game modes.
And further detracts from what this game CCP wishes to be, which I think (and I may be wrong) is a: persistent MMO world that provides player driven/ corp wars.

Ok. I will agree with you on the basis that CCP unnerf everything and bring things back to the good old days. Bring back the old tanks and the dropships. Bring back the old SLs. Bring back the Stromberry Rodden AR. Buff up the breaches.
Let people focus on CORP and CORP battles.
I am telling you, FPS wannabes will always be dominated by the pros and will always ask for nerfs because they got no gun game. The difference between wannabes and the pros is that the pros adapt.
The best example is Noc. Look at him. In the previous builds he was a tank driver and was good at it. Now tanks and rails are overnerfed and whats does he do;- fly around in a dropship helping his corp pwn noobs and pros alike.
A noobs zone is required for this reason. Cos no matter what noobs cant and will not adapt. They will want anything that kills them nerfed.

The only reason snipers are like that is because line of sight got fixed, you used to not be able to shoot past AR range DERP. And then people would run around with MOAB launchers (now swarm launchers) like they used to. And there would be proto suits that had effectively 10x HP over T1. |

Been here since march. Y'know when forge guns were trully OP and people weren't complaining about every single thing that killed them. I'm still pretty hopefull though, I'd rather wait it out a few more builds. |

xjumpman23 wrote:I've been playing this game since March ( IF YOU HAVENT PLAYED SINCE MARCH GTFO OF THIS THREAD) Skirmish was much more structured and consisted of attack and defense. Skirmish 1.0 promoted team play and forced structured battles with actual killzones. (IE. people didn't have to run around the map looking for the next person to kill) Battles were action packed meaning they were never boring there was alway something to do.
=> Agreed that this skirmish 1.0 was the way to go and CCP should have worked on it instead of going into a domination type of play where people run around and hack, and hack, and hack..... It's boring after a while. Yet skirmish 1.0 had its flaws regarding MCC health and the two defense relay that were WAY too fragile. But personnaly, i felt like skirmish 1.0 had a stronger feeling of conquest. One team actually DEFENDED and the other actually ATTACKED.
Yet, i'm pretty sure that planetary conquest wont work on skirmish 2.0. Or i won't play it. If my corps OWNS a district, then why the hell should i have to run to hack nullcanons ? Why aren't they already on ? Screw it. I too want skirmish 1.0 back.
I will even ADD that it promotes every camping, from snipers to vehicle protection sniping maps while staying close to redline. skirmish 2.0 is also responsible for a lot of the vehicle\infantry balancing problems. When map had actually 2 parts where the importance between vehicles and infantry would vary, things were way more ok....
xjumpman23 wrote: Gun battles promoted skill.
I cant completely agree there. Gunskills on the first 2 builds were AWFULL. Fights were happening between handicapped soldiers and were lasting a full minute at close range, and the "ballet" look of it was ridiculous. We were ice skating. Dont get me wrong, my KDR was as high as it is now i'm just being objective.
Now, i FULLY agree that the game as been slowed down way too much. Precursor was absolutely perfect in my opinion, as speed was still a huge factor (i can remember Sha Kharn's cheated top sprint scout going all speedy gonzalez on me ! lol, leved it) but it felt less "dancy". Then, came in the new infantry model that killed all the movement dynamic and added a 2 page list long of collision bugs and other screw ups.... ( wall of glass, player bumps, installations bumps, can't jump fence in assault suits etc....)
Sniping, agreed. What the hell are those insta-shot snipers ? And that MASSIVE black shadow over player even through fog ? This got to GO AWAY.
xjumpman23 wrote: Contrast that with what we have now COD:DUST514 edition
wide open maps with little kids hiding in the mountains as snipers camping headglitching into "cover" slower gameplay than killzone 2 (which had realistic recoil and movement in comparison to most games) COD style gunfights where whoever sees who first wins terrible spawn points ZERO RECOIL STANDARD AR's terrible burst rifle (people have been asking for 3 round burst since match) worthless breach AR's gimped beyond the point of use and CCP knows this but allows the noobs to run around with zero recoil standard AR's.
Noobs that couldn't aim ruined this game.
Yes, the game is far closer to COD in terms of gameplay lookalike than it was. But it is still far from COD. We dont have quickscopes, gunplay still require way more skill and brain than COD.
Zero recoil AR is a bug and shall be fixed. BReach will come back (even though not exactly like before as there was no other weapon that could compete). TAC ar will get fixed etc...
I'm not worried about balance, tweaks. I'm more worried about what we both agree on. Speed, and games mechanics. Thus why in the suggestion i made about Wat Barge Fights suggests a skirmish 1.0 pattern for fights. Way more interesting Imo. |
