Scrub(s), e-peen, yo, OP is something that was very common to see on the MAG forums. The MAG forums where great, that being said, you cant understand the MAG community with out being part of the forums. |

Not quite Gauder. It comes from before FPS hit consoles. First time I heard of it was Mortal Kombat 2. It refers to people who are so unable to use control pads they just mash their hand over the button, "scrubbing" the pad. They then progressed to button bashing, holding the controller properly, but not fighting in any sensible manner. Then then got good. Then better. Eventually, I turned out ok at MK2. No-one dares play me at it (I'm terrible at the new one with X-ray moves ect...)
Tbh seeing players improve is vital to any long lasting clan. Hence Cerebral being all nicey nicey join the goons if you don't think KDR is important. So what if they suck for 6 months. A year later he has a huge number of capable players. Not gods, but people who will play for the win.

Something very important to everyone here in regards to the whole mag vs Eve and console vs PC debate.
Let this be a friendly reminder that both sides should stop bickering and work together toward a common goal that we all share which is to help CCP make DUST the best game in the market next to Eve online. Besides, don't we both love DUST for its potential? |

Didn't know the original definition of scrub, interesting I love those kinda connections. The definition of scrub I posted is the one I have had for a while, and heard others uttered on more than one occasion. I guess words change, I mean, awful started out as Awefull, a positive word!
As for the goonfeet, of course many noobs will make it into the grades of elite O-holders, they after all have the ability to improve
I guess what it will boil down to is how many people in X different timezones will it take to successfully defend a planet. Eperience gets you places definitely. I started my console shooter experience with Warhawk, ended up with a 0.9something KDR, went on to MAG with a 1.33KDR and now am at a comfortable 3ish. It takes time to get to a good level, especially for someone "old" like me. I doubt newbies to shooters will overcome those who have a few years of experience in just 6 months...
We'll see soon(tm) enough. |

So...you'll take my advice if I were to tell you how to play EVE? Good to know. Because that's what I see happening; people with little console FPS experience (or little FPS experience in general) telling FPS players how to play...an FPS. Its like one of us telling an EVE player how to play EVE. Its just doesn't work.
For many MAG players, MAG wasn't the first FPS they've played. Heck, I've been playing FPSs for...somewhere between 18 and 20 years. So, um...yeah...can't exactly say I don't have any experience here.
We have people trying to make an FPS into an MMO (where your skill [as in player skill, not SP skill] doesn't matter, your gear/money/skills do) and/or trying to say that unless you use only these EVE strategies and apply what an EVE player tells you to (which has a good chance at not working, at least not until they open up the game, but even then may still not work), and doesn't consider that the games are part of two different genres and they may not be the gods they think they are.
We want the game to stay true to an FPS; making player skill matter first and foremost; the game mechanics to work properly; grouping with friends and clanmates and have organized battles work. We don't want people turning this into a skill-less gear-focused game where it doesn't matter who fights, only what it is they're using. We also don't like being told that we have to deal with that and stop telling EVE players that they're wrong in trying to change the FPS part of the game. |

Tosch, while I agree keeping things civil, it's depressing hearing about people who simply don't understand the nature of FPS. Had a chat with someone today, who just wants to fly Dropships. That's all. Wtf are you playing an FPS? Or the guys who repair you while you fighting. Bececause their bullets aren't worth firing apparently according to them. Because "they're not good".
Well, get better or go play the sims. Only way to get better is try.
I am still shocked friendly fire is off in high sec. That is one thing which puts MAG clans off. We sometimes stop firing so we don't shoot our team. |

Thats very unfair, you're going to need people who like to play logi and fly a dropship at some point in the future and you're going to rely on people like that at some point.
I love that people still can't see that there are people that play FPS games and EVE, i personally was one of the first 100 people on XBL to get the Mile High Club achievement on Modern Warfare and thats not an easy thing to achieve. I even use to be professionally sponsored by a company in the UK. Just because i play EVE does not mean i'm not capable of playing a FPS and that goes for a lot of EVE players. |

I shouldn't be so hard on you tbh Cerebral. You're alright at the FPS side of things. But the bottom line remains. Scrubs need to practise to get good. And they need to try things they might fail.
Like I say, chat to some MAG players who actually had a brain in addition to raw skill. Aside from which MAG was not a raw gun game experience. Enigma99 said it first; UT/Q3 players will be the best. If they come here. If they leave UT & Q3.
Established MAG clans are simply go to Mercs. If they fail you in Dust, they're scrubs. Easiest way to deal with it. |

I'm going to have to agree with cerebral on this one....that is a bit harsh. I don't mind guys who want to specialize in certain things because they feel their fps skills are already saturated. I love games that allow someone who isn't a great shooter to play a role and still be a decisive factor in the battle.
Its like in MAG....shooters aren't going to go out and repair your frontline for you. Nor, will they risk dying trying to repair the gates at the letters. Even in DUST...killers may not run around the field looking for armor to repair.
The only thing I don't like about some players is that they like to stay in the spawn area and not move towards objectives. |

Heh I fully agree here. SP is OP. But another thing about Dust is PvE. Look at Borderlands. CoD zombies. Multiplayer team based gaming is where these guys can improve both skills, decide their role, gather ISK and gain SP. I'll be playing the PvE regardless of rewards, because that's the place I can just muck about.
My problem with the "I wanna fly!" logic is that they neglect other vital areas of training. Look at them tankies. 20 mil SP and no type 2 dropsuits... It's just like how I have a problem when assault rifle infantry DOESN'T have Av nades. I mean, wtf?

I am still shocked friendly fire is off in high sec. That is one thing which puts MAG clans off. We sometimes stop firing so we don't shoot our team. Whille being able to kill the enemy is important if you know anything about real combat you'd know that the support roles are just as important.
That being said Dust looks to be working towards being the game that comes closest to real coordinated combat. So those support roles in which the players heal you or fly you around are going to be just as important as your ability to run around killing clones.
Good luck winning a game without any pilots/medics/drivers/etc.
EDIT: I will say though that a FPS player does need to be a bit more rounded than just healing or flying so I agree they need to practice and try to get better, but I wouldn't tell them to go play the sims. |

Tbh, I do regret that comment. I wouldn't wish the sims on anyone really. :D So long as people can enjoy the game with friends, does it really matter if it's Hisec PvE where KDR wont matter at all,or Null sec with "elite" clans.
We are only testing the PvP. Often with unfair teams in regards SP & groups. The Playerbase is growing, and I think next build with Corps ect, we might see the first improvised player corp battles.
The other thing is those guys running PvE will be paying tax to a corp. They don't just support players, they support your whole corp. Especially when industry starts.
There is so much on offer with Dust once CCP get "everything" working. There will be a place for everyone. |
