IMPORTANT EDIT: All weapons, dropsuits, and other gear in gladiator arena must be of the same tier. No militia users against prototype users. It must be a true contest of skill, not decided by ISK. While in Gladiator Arena, all skills must be equalized as well so that everyone will have the same exact skills and skill levels while in the arena
Come one come all to post ideas for the amazing galactic spectacle that is Gladiator Arena! As you might know, CCP will be bringing E-Sport to Dust 514, and they are calling it Gladiator Arena, and EVE and Dust players will be able to spectate and gamble on the outcomes of those matches; its all suppose to come in 2013 I think. The purpose of this thread is for us to post the kind of modes and features we would like to see in Gladiator Arena.
What I want to see: Standard FPS modes like Deathmatch and Capture The Flag.
Fun unconventional modes, for example: A mode where each player is hunting another player as a target.
LAV and jet (when they come) racing.
Fighting genetically modified fauna, like a giant bug. There is life in New Eden besides human, and its perfectly conceivable that some life would get genetically modified if they will be used as entertainment tools against gladiators.
MTAC battles (MTACs are mechs that are planned to come in 2013).
Special rules and limitations for each of the above modes (like knives and pistols only, weapon pickups, or no respawn)
Extreme, and spectacular visually captivating combat areas. Imagine fighting in an Amaar stadium full of ornate architecture, gold, and glorious shining statues.
Post your ideas.
EDIT: Thought of a very defined specific idea. Ghost jump mode: Inspired by the "transfer of consciousness" respawn system of Dust 514. Many computer-piloted clones are all over the battlefield.
Players can highjack any of those computer-piloted clones by transferring consciousness, and ditch a clone for a new one as soon as they want. No respawn times.
Kills give you points, and deaths make you lose points. Kills of computer-controlled clones give very few points, while killing player-possessed clones gives more points. The more points your victim had when you killed him, the more points you get.
This can be free-for all, or team vs team.
Whoever has the most points by the end of the battle wins.
The battle arena will be set up to make all of this possible, and would be quite a fun sport. I think there was another shooter with something similar to this, but can't think of what. |

Bounty battles.
1 life per person. 2 teams.
To enter, you must pay an absurd amount. Say, 1 million ISK. If you die, you lose it all. For every kill, you gather that person's bounty. Thus, you are forced to work together OR you can be the lone wolf to walk away with millions.
Corp that funds the project obviously gets a cut. EVE can place bets on battles!
^not my original idea. Somebody else came up with it first. Sorry, i forgot your name, but i know this is your idea. Just spreading it! |

Throw everybody in a open arena FFA. Everyone gets the same loadout. They must pay their way into it. Similar to the idea above. There are power weapons scattered around the map. The map is huge and everyone is spawned around the rim of it, with a single HAV in the middle.
Could make for interesting hunger games style gameplay.
Also, a LAV death race.
Next, perhaps dropship wrestling? Knock the other dropship out of the sky without any weapons.
Uhhh... Maybe a mode where there is a large team versus a snall cloaked team of ninjas with sniper rifles, OP ninjas are balanced by size of opposite team. The opposin team must defend a flag from getting captured and returned to the enemy MCC. No respawns, ninjas attempt to get in without dying and picking off as many as possible enemies. |

I want a big map like hangem high, matches with certain cpu and pg criteria and matches with only specific weapons. Also gear you can only get for being top dog that you can use in corp battles. I want matches where 1v1 is the name of the game. Pistol and knife only stuff like that. I want competitions that provide adiquate gun game competition. Like a 3 hit body shot or a 1 hit head shot, something like that. Something that provides the player with the ability to get a kill with skill. alot of the close quarters stuff I noticed that its just spray and pray, or 1 hit with a shotgun. I want some serious gun depth when I play 1v1 matches. Also put powerups in it that you have to fightover so as not to promote camping. I want a flawless shooting experience when I am facing down a opponent, and for when I lose I know it was to the better player.
Also something that readjusts skill so everyone has the same skill when they play the match. totally even playing field no advantage to either party. Or ladders that just have a few requirements and have a no rules/ anything goes type of thing.
Like I want strategy and gun game to be the only dictators of who wins and loses. Have lots of different ladders and types of ladders all ranked and all visible to everyone.
Also maybe special things for when you win alot of arena matches like special guns or like badges or something.
If you can get this experience correct you will have a dedicated following much like with quake unreal counter-strike cod halo... |

Capture the Flag - Hack an objective in enemy territory to receive a data file that must be delivered back to your base while keeping the enemy team from doing the same. Death destroys the data file unless revived with a nanite injector.
"Mors Certa, Hora Incerta" (Death is certain, its hour is uncertain) -- Deathmatch Survival mode with 3 teams (6 vs 6 vs 6). Every time one of the teams are eliminated the remaining 2 teams get a boost to their clone reserves & a new team is able to drop into the fray.
LAV Tag - Free for all, weapons off. One player is "it" and spawns in an LAV. Everyone else is running away while the driver tries to run them over.
Dropship Tag - Prove your dropship wrangling skills by ramming your dropship into other player's dropships when you're "it" and avoiding the player who's "it" while you aren't. |

Fight to the death on a rapidly spinning out of control asteroid. A 360 degree battle, the asteroid is so small that you can ealk around it in 40 seconds. Gravity is extremely low, so low that it is possible to exit the asteroids gravity field and fly into space to die. Magnetic boots are all that keep you anchored. The asteroid crashes into a star, another asteroid, an abandoned space ship, etc., and the fight transfers to that surface (except in the case of the star, or if you get crushed on impact.)
The match ends when a victor remains standing alone, and a barrage of fire from the spectating EVE ships vaporises the rock! |

It would work, Gladiator Arena isn't a regular type of battle, its fighting for entertainment of the crowd, for honor, and glory, not fighting to conquer territory as a contracted mercenary. Its like saying gladiator 1 on 1 battles don't work in ancient Rome because it doesn't fit with the tactical warfare of the Roman military. |

Amarr: Towering statues, archs, vaults, and lots and lots of Gold
Caldari: Battleship grey, very utilitarian feel
Gallente: Odd designs to their corridors and rooms, illuminated parts of walls and things, lots of green, and lots of curves and things.
Minmatar: Like fighting in a rusted out factory or warehouse kind of feel. Think THUNDERDOME. |

dafuq sprinting? not sure if srs
anyway game modes imo
CTF TDM FFA KotH (King of the Hill) 1 Life team bomb mode
ideal team size 6v6 tops Arenas MUST be symmetrical so no side gets any terrain advantage
As others said gear must be equal So set a certain tier of dropsuits and weapons that can be used as for mods idk dropsuits already determine what u can ultimately fit based on PG and CPU
Wont mind some bigger Arena modes which limit say vehicles but have them in there maybe 1 per team sort of like a power weapon. Example: One team of 6 gets 1 MTAC or HAV per side or 2 LAVs. Fighters wont be much use in arena modes tbqh since they are meant for more open areas
On an ending note seeing alot of corny ideas being passed about gladiator arenas were said to be competitive eSports oriented modes so lets keep the "sprinting/races" or other ideas like that to a minmum and let the devs really do PROPER eSports oriented stuff 1st
Maximus Stryker wrote:I just hope Gladiator arenas are in the game at the main launch, I feel it will help attack and keep casuals which the community will need in order for the game to survive long term , in my opinion.
agree with gladiator needs to be in at launch, disagree with gladiator mode keepin casuals.....if its made for eSports competition then it will actually keep alot more hardcore than casuals
EDIT: also another thing Gladiator Arenas need to have is an ingame league system....take a look at BO2 league play option (stop fanbois and just read up on it before u blast it jeez)
It pits players of similar skill against each other in different divisions. Keep winning and at the end of the season teams will be promoted up a division , teams that suck will be demoted a division this promotes competition and makes ppl play 100% every match to win no matter who the opponent is.
Reason i suggest matchmaking is so that teams dont dodge and try to pad wins vs "friends" in their division. Matchmaking will be done with teams in ur own division so u know they of similar skill so no need to setup a match vs a specific team u can do that in one off gladiator matches but not league play.
As said before if u have a league that has vehicles make sure its only ONE per tam 6v6 and each team has a choice of bringing 1 MTAC not sure about HAV depending on arena sizes also have a pure 6v6 infantry league as well
Have different tiers Standard League [Only standard dropsuits and weapons allowed, any type mods can be used since CPU/PG is limited via dropsuit]
Advanced League [Only advanced dropsuits and up to advanced weapons allowed, same as above with mods] Prototype League [Only prototype dropsuits and up to prototype weapons allowed, same above with mods] |

Love the earlier idea of hoverbike races. Maybe add in some simple weapons or traps with large racer count and you got yourself.a cool spectator sport.
Another cool idea when MTACS are fully fleshed out with various sizes and variants. I want there to be a sort MTAC league.
Another idea. What about football of the future? everybody got cool suits. And the idea could be to get some kind of ball across the opponents goal line. There would be different classes to full different needs in the arena.
Blocker: Like a heavy. Blocks opponent from getting across the line with their bodies and some kind of shield ability.
Attacker: Like an assault class. Kills the ball carrier and scores or passes the ball off to the runners. Can defend or harass enemy blockers.
Runner. Like a scout. Basically is really fast and best at getting across the line. Their goal is the ball.
Support: the logi. He keeps team mates alive and keeps equipment operational. Mostly defensive
The ball starts in the middle of the field. When a goal is scores it resets and the round starts again. Note: the players have suits and equipment that let the move fast and jump high to keep things interesting. Equipment varies from forcefields to cloaking devices to weapons for fighting and harassing each other.
J my idea of something that would be cool and fun to watch |

Im thinking Cross country Racing. from one district to another, past mountains, grasslands, forests, even over the ocean. random obstacles like: for forests, you have mines, trees.
Grasslands you have snipers trying to pick you off,
in the ocean, you have predators of the sea and the skies.
in rocky foundations, you have to dodge landslides, drop ships trying to kill you,and rocky formations that you have to evade.
for the icy areas, you have to find a shelter in a certain amount of time otherwise your hoverbike will stop working and you die in the cold.
for volcano- lava-like areas you have to avoid the lava as it will cause your bike to overheat and fail, and huge volcano storms where you have to dodge the debris from volcanic explosions, maybe add in an asphyxiation meter.
or even the cities, avoid da police >:] countless more ideas just for racing :D

Then it won't be no different from a regular battle, and so there would be no point. The whole point of E-sports, or Sports in general is to test skills and talent, not to have battles decided by other advantages.

What I want to see:
Standard FPS modes like Deathmatch and Capture The Flag.
Fun unconventional modes, for example: A mode where each player is assigned 1 specific other player to hunt down as a target.
LAV, and dropship racing (and jets when they come).
Players can highjack any of those computer-piloted clones by transferring their consciousness to it. Players can ditch a clone for a new one as soon as they want.
Bad Idea. They worked 6 years on the game and now you want to make it Quake 3 arena, plus if you don't able earn enough isk for a proto drop suit for Tournament playing in a pub you are bad and you will be steamrolled anyway. And of course you can almost max out your favorite suit and weapon module for it in about 2 months. DUST is not only FPS you need make some decision before you jump to battle and this decision are as important as the battle itself. Of course if CCP will smart they will allow make people contract with set parameters, for exampl

In real life gladiators were slaves, so it wasn't about who had the most money to get better hear. The gear was provided to them, and they had to make due with what they had.
Exactly. The best gladiators, the ones people were making money off were provided the best gear. The level of equipment was far from even.
More rules means a crappier experience and more work for the devs than this ffa mode warrants. If you want esports in new eden, bring your isk or go home. Take a look at the yearly tournament that's held in Eve.

I get the feeling that Dust's e-sports will be on the same boring battlefields, with nothing beyond simple CTF and deathmatches. |

I vote for CUSTOM matches in any arena mode the game includes.
-Skill bonuses: On/Off -Allowed gear: subsections for Militia, Standard, Advanced and Prototype, with checkmarks for each -Squads: Yes/No -Off Map Support: checkmarks again, with Precision Strikes, Tactical Strikes and any future OMS options -Installation drops: checkmarks again, with options for small and large turrets, supply depots and CRUs.
Let players create tournaments where very specific rules are used. If you want to leave everything open for a basic "no rules" contest, you can. If you want to force full Proto so nobody goes into the match without having access to high-level equipment, you can. If you want a "baseline" challenge with no skills or gear giving anybody an advantage, you can even do that.
This way, people could look at the rules, and decide to bet based on player skill, player SP, or what they know of the financial state of the players/Corps involved. |

For e-sports, they could just allow a good spectator mode. 1V1 FPS matches are not fun to watch, but showing and eve battle and dust battle together would be amazing to watch. |

Must have gambling and a good observation mode. Would be really cool if players could watch the game from the big screen in the Merc/Captains quarters. |

Sounds fun question tho, how would injectors be handled within this context? (no allowed for use? no change?)

I really hope to see fun crazy stuff besides just stuff like CTF. Something tells me I'll be getting much less creative options than I'm hoping for. |

What I want to see:
Standard FPS modes like Deathmatch and Capture The Flag.
Fun unconventional modes, for example: A mode where each player is assigned 1 specific other player to hunt down as a target.
LAV, and dropship racing (and jets when they come).
Players can highjack any of those computer-piloted clones by transferring their consciousness to it. Players can ditch a clone for a new one as soon as they want.
I think there was another shooter with something similar to this, but can't think of what. as soon as you mentioned sports i stopped reading....we have enough of that crap...now you want it in dust? the last thing this game needs is a freaking crappy fairplay sports mode....dust is about war.....and as we all know when you are in war..there are no freaking limitations. |

The gladiator arena E-sports is ALREADY CONFIRMED by CCP. Its coming whether we like it or not, so might as well make suggestions. They announced it last year at Fanfest 2012. |
