IMPORTANT EDIT: All weapons, dropsuits, and other gear in gladiator arena must be of the same tier. No militia users against prototype users. It must be a true contest of skill, not decided by ISK. While in Gladiator Arena, all skills must be equalized as well so that everyone will have the same exact skills and skill levels while in the arena
Come one come all to post ideas for the amazing galactic spectacle that is Gladiator Arena! As you might know, CCP will be bringing E-Sport to Dust 514, and they are calling it Gladiator Arena, and EVE and Dust players will be able to spectate and gamble on the outcomes of those matches; its all suppose to come in 2013 I think. The purpose of this thread is for us to post the kind of modes and features we would like to see in Gladiator Arena.
What I want to see: Standard FPS modes like Deathmatch and Capture The Flag.
Fun unconventional modes, for example: A mode where each player is hunting another player as a target.
LAV and jet (when they come) racing.
Fighting genetically modified fauna, like a giant bug. There is life in New Eden besides human, and its perfectly conceivable that some life would get genetically modified if they will be used as entertainment tools against gladiators.
MTAC battles (MTACs are mechs that are planned to come in 2013).
Special rules and limitations for each of the above modes (like knives and pistols only, weapon pickups, or no respawn)
Extreme, and spectacular visually captivating combat areas. Imagine fighting in an Amaar stadium full of ornate architecture, gold, and glorious shining statues.
Post your ideas.
EDIT: Thought of a very defined specific idea. Ghost jump mode: Inspired by the "transfer of consciousness" respawn system of Dust 514. Many computer-piloted clones are all over the battlefield.
Players can highjack any of those computer-piloted clones by transferring consciousness, and ditch a clone for a new one as soon as they want. No respawn times.
Kills give you points, and deaths make you lose points. Kills of computer-controlled clones give very few points, while killing player-possessed clones gives more points. The more points your victim had when you killed him, the more points you get.
This can be free-for all, or team vs team.
Whoever has the most points by the end of the battle wins.
The battle arena will be set up to make all of this possible, and would be quite a fun sport. I think there was another shooter with something similar to this, but can't think of what. |

Longshot Ravenwood wrote:Deathmatch - 1x1, 3v3, etc.. with a specific set clone reserve for each player rather than a shared reserve.
Trial By Ordeal - 3v9 hold the line match. Win condition for the 3 will be to hack or destroy a specific objective. Win condition for the 9 is to exhaust the enemy team's clone reserve.
Capture the Flag - Hack an objective in enemy territory to receive a data file that must be delivered back to your base while keeping the enemy team from doing the same. Death destroys the data file unless revived with a nanite injector.
"Mors Certa, Hora Incerta" (Death is certain, its hour is uncertain) -- Deathmatch Survival mode with 3 teams (6 vs 6 vs 6). Every time one of the teams are eliminated the remaining 2 teams get a boost to their clone reserves & a new team is able to drop into the fray.
LAV Tag - Free for all, weapons off. One player is "it" and spawns in an LAV. Everyone else is running away while the driver tries to run them over.
Dropship Tag - Prove your dropship wrangling skills by ramming your dropship into other player's dropships when you're "it" and avoiding the player who's "it" while you aren't. |

EDIT:::: but other than that everything else is good ,
It would work, Gladiator Arena isn't a regular type of battle, its fighting for entertainment of the crowd, for honor, and glory, not fighting to conquer territory as a contracted mercenary. Its like saying gladiator 1 on 1 battles don't work in ancient Rome because it doesn't fit with the tactical warfare of the Roman military. |

It would be cool to have a zero gravity battle setting in which the gladiators (us) fly around with something like ionic thrusters while we kill each other for the amusement of the crowd. |

Then it won't be no different from a regular battle, and so there would be no point. The whole point of E-sports, or Sports in general is to test skills and talent, not to have battles decided by other advantages.
In real life gladiators were slaves, so it wasn't about who had the most money to get better hear. The gear was provided to them, and they had to make due with what they had. |

I get the feeling that Dust's e-sports will be on the same boring battlefields, with nothing beyond simple CTF and deathmatches. |

I really hope to see fun crazy stuff besides just stuff like CTF. Something tells me I'll be getting much less creative options than I'm hoping for. |

The gladiator arena E-sports is ALREADY CONFIRMED by CCP. Its coming whether we like it or not, so might as well make suggestions. They announced it last year at Fanfest 2012. |
