well to start my main gripe has always been the garbage hit detection its ****** up that u deliberately have to MISS your target to actually HIT your target
and no its not about leading shots this isnt leading shots this is just poor hit detection i engage enemies at longer ranges in BF3 and that joke of a game i dont have to lead...u lead at extreme ranges aka sniper ranges and with snipers being railguns in this game i see 0 reason to have to lead shots in this futuristic game.
u have ppl making simple strafe movements at mid range and u find yourself having to lead to land hits its most notable on scout suits but it affects them all
been like this since i got in the beta in april but alas its gotten better but for a so called "AAA" game u need to sort out the foundation of the house FIRST aka core mechanics before u add in the flashy stuff
now next build supposedly gonna fix hit detection again so we'll see, if it isnt fixed next build then im gonna be losing faith that CCP will ever get it fixed and they should look to hire more ppl with FPS experience to fix it ASAP |

Seriously its just a beta, and people are hating for what its trying to become. The fact that its not on PC is a BIG issue to some, and rather puzzling at that. Maybe it was part of sony's plan to make EvE players who have a moderate to high interest in dust 514, to go out n buy a ps3.
No because the point of it is to get PS3 users the way to effect EvE.
If it were on PC, than it would be competing dirrectly for time with the very game it goes with. Aka EvE.
By having this on PS3, you open up for other audiences to handle it, while eve players continue to sub and play eve.
Both sides effect the other. Eve and Dust.
This adds another dynamic layer of gameplay to Eve, since the outcome of battles in Dust, aren't just some RNG, but are done by players.
Also keep in mind, Dust is made using the SoE mod to the Unreal Engine. No other way Sony would let CCP get hold of that. |

I just joined the beta & I have no experience with FPS MMOs. So 2 things I am curious about. Is the lack oof voice chatting & teamwork a normal thing, or is it due to the fact that right now we are simply testing quick matches? Also, I saw gamespot lists DUST 514 as having a dec 31st release date. This seem realistic, sine we are a little under 4 months out from there & we are testing gameplay & have yet to delve into corporate battle & EVE connectivity.
Still though I am having fun with it through my hapless dying & I am already getting addicted to earning ISK & skill points. |

"It's just a beta" doesn't really explain bad design.
The glowing arrows or TACNET system works fairly well. It is one of the things that seemed to work well in the build before E3 and then seemed to fall by the wayside in the E3 build, but is getting back to how it should be now.
As more and more players upgrade their dropsuits, you will notice fewer red arrows staying on-screen, and you will be able to hide your signature as a sniper.
Basically, if anyone on your team can see an enemy, then everyone on your team can see that enemy. And they get marked with the glowing arrow.
This system should become much more robust and dynamic on bigger maps, with larger teams, and E war modules, weapons ,equipment.
The framerate drops are killer, though. My second or third least favorite thing about DUST 514 so far, and has persisted build to build.
Spawn system is bad for random matches. But also players are just terrible at using all their options.
Tanks neither here nor there. |

If people want to hate Dust 514, that's their choice. They have a right to complain in whatever manner they want. However, if they don't like Dust 514 and appear to be hellbent on just continuing to hate it regardless of the improvements, then I got news for them.
"There are other games to play, you know."
If one doesn't like a game, then that person should just move on the next game. It's not that hard. I don't understand why some players like to play the "doom-n-gloom" card against one game if they don't like it. For years I have seen many players post comments in the Eve Online forums saying how Eve will fail because of its hostile culture (ie: Jita scams, Hulkageddon, Market cornering, Corporate theft, propaganda, etc.) yet it's been running smoothly for nine years straight.
I played many games that I know sucked, but I didn't ever go on an anti-insert-game-name-here campaign about how they sucked and how the game will fail. Stooping that low just doesn't have any benefit to anyone. Not even to the person who hates the game. This is because I know that I don't like (insert game name) either because of the play style or something else that may not suit me but might suit somebody else.
There is also the fact that Dust 514 is still in closed beta. The problem here is that most players nowadays seem to have gotten use to the idea that a CLOSED BETA is somehow an OPEN DEMO of a completed game (which is not the case obviously). Players keep forgetting that a closed beta implies that most features are still missing and are due to be implemented later on over a set period of time.
Let's also not forget that some players don't seem to bother with searching the forums for old posts that may have already addressed their concerns.
Also, almost every player nowadays is connected via some form of social networking (Facebook, Twitter, Google+, etc.) yet a lot of them don't seem interested in following the development notes posted in those networks. If a player really wants to help make a game better and wants to understand what's going on, then that player would make the effort to stay informed in some way. |

Last night I had 3 games in a row that it joined me when they were almost over. All 3 of them had tanks spawn raping our side. They definitely need some sort of auto turret system to keep people out of the only spawn we could use.
That aside, what makes the shooting dynamics poor is mostly the frame rate spikes. The hit detection is poor as well, but I'm guessing that's to do with the horrible server they are using. I quite often get timed out when trying to buy items, or join a new game. I'm pretty sure that's the same issue. If they fix the frame rate/ graphic lag issue, get a better test server, and increase the joystick/mouse sensitivity, you would have solid shooter dynamics.
However, if you allow players to spawn camp / base **** for an entire match with a tank that you can't even target before it kills you, your not going to have many players that want to play your game, despite how the shooting functions. The game needs auto-turrets and a 3 second spawn invincibility. They also need to get rid of the random spawn system if they implement spawn invincibility.'
I would not spend a cent on the game if these issues are unresolved. I would not play it for free either.
Graphics and customization are also an extremely insignificant aspect of a shooter for me. Budget also should not be an excuse for a poor functioning product. If they made a Delta Force 2 clone for the PS3 I would have raved about this game. You have to get the fundamentals before you add all the extra junk. I wonder how much of a budget Delta Force 2 had... |

I also feel there's a severe lack of feedback, both aural and tactile. Let's take COD: Black Ops as an example. When you are shooting an enemy you clearly hear "THUD" sounds and feel small vibrations in the control pad. It also has the hitmarkers on screen at the same time. Dust has the red X at the moment but it needs more IMO. There's also no enemy death noise and death animations are not up to the standard of other engines.
For me,ADS needs work on it's feedback.Seems that it's more unresponsive than hip firing, which I find terribly inaccurate.
There is a sound for killing someone, don't know how you don't hear it.It's probably THE most satisfying thing in the beta right now,is hearing that loud bombastic *BUMP* sound.I will agree that it would feel more complete with a little tactile feedback though. |

I actually enjoy the graphics. It's nice for a change to not have to squint my way across tons of glowy bloom scenery (a la Killzone 3) to make out a single enemy. Sure, I admit the graphics could use a little improvement, but I would be fine with the current state of them if they were released like this. |

This is never going to change, because it's core to the EVE/DUST experience and key to the economy working. That clone you were using is dead with a big ragged hole it its armor, and its gear is lost somewhere down on the planet. Your new body needs new gear before it's sent into battle. That new gear is not free.
If it's a deal-breaker for you, you might as well uninstall and go play something else now. |

I like those players - quickly found a Tactical Assault Rifle, and tend to kill those players easily (I hit them a lot more than their spraying hits me )
Anyways, it shows that this is a closed beta - there is still a lot of polish to be done, which I'm sure CCP is trying to do, partly based on the feedback here and on measurements on their servers and test-machines.
What I worry about is that when the game goes live and people cannot just hit "Instant Battle" and run around shooting willy-nilly, a lot of people are going to be put off; If there is any persistence that requires maintaining, the Lets Run And Shoot Everything (aka the ones who does nothing to meet the goal of a given fight, or coordinate, or ...) will drop off quickly.

If it had been on the Xbox 360 then it would no longer be free to play. You have to pay Microsoft to access their internet service, where Sony lets you connect for free. It's better in the long run. Gives the players a chance to actually spend that 15 a month on Dust if they so choose, and keeps the game truly free to play. I prefer a PS3, and for a game like Dust 514 to hop on the PSN and for Sony to accept it as a F2P gives me hope for the future of gaming.
As long as the F2P market goes in the direction that it is, we could be looking at a complete reduction of cost for at least MMO type games. Supply and Demand I guess. If all the customers stop paying because there is a market to play for free then more and more games will join in, in order to compete. THIS is what we need as gamers. Not willingness to pay Microsoft 15 dollars a month just to bypass a lock they set. One word... Kittens. |

I play EVE, I want DUST to succeed. I like the EVE style character progression and the potential of DUST. I have been in the beta for a couple of months.
Here is the part where everyone is going to ignore the first part of my post. I got into Planetside 2 beta a couple days ago. It is also a beta. It is more fun now than DUST, and they are both in betas. I did not play PS1, I did not know anything about the factions, game times, weapons, classes, etc. In about 10 minutes I was up to speed on what I was supposed to do, how to navigate the map, what the objectives are, and how to upgrade classes/weapons. When I get killed, I didn't have the "wtf just killed me" moment, because it tells you who and what weapon killed you in a giant screen, easily recognizable. So next time I don't do the same thing.
Even being an EVE vet. It took a lot of reading to figure out what the skills where in DUST. In PS2, you just have to play the game to figure that stuff out. Having played other FPSes, PS2 controls are more intuitive, DUST you have to look at the keybinds screen to figure out wtf does what.
PS2 is a pure PVP game. No PVE, no politics, just jump in and kill stuff. In that respect, DUST has more potential. However, some people don't want to wait 2 years for it to get to that point.
Edit: PS2 also does not have great graphics. My first reaction to seeing them was "wtf this isn't 2000 anymore". The gameplay made me forget them. |

What CCP are doing here by intertwining two games from two different platforms is a completely original idea and I can't think of any other company who has done this. If anyone says there's a lack of innovation I think they need to step back and look at it at a different angle in all honesty.
So far though I think it'll be really good. Few thoughts I'd like to bounce to the forums a little later after playing the game a bit more and getting more used to it. Perhaps some people just like running around like the hulk with a machine gun or RPG shooting the stupid out of people |

The only thing that I am not liking about the game so far is that people take literally FOREVER to die by shooting them, however I also have realized that the way to solve this is to level up your weapon skills and get better guns, so its not THAT bad but still, it is a little misleading when you first jump into the game. Other than that I absolutely love the game, customization is more than any other FPS I have ever played, multiplayer wise at least. I am really liking the game alot so far. I just wish that I had easier ways of communicating to other players. I need to get a headset so that I can talk to and make friends with other people and start co-ordinating with teammates like the game is clearly designed for. |
