R2 - Trigger R1 - Weapon Wheel/Change Weapon L2 - Zoom L1 - Grenade
Leave the rest as is or some combos that include the reversed L/R buttons. The one layout that has them swapped also completely changes all the other stuff too and I don't want those changes.
I really just want a selection (not unlike the one on the 'Move' setup menu) to simply swap L1/2 & R1/2.
Who's next? Let's get 'em in here! |

I'm fine with the infantry controls as they are but we need different controls for vehicles, mostly the LAV.
It ought to be like the dropship, directional control on left stick, throttle on R1 and breaks on L1. |

Why? Because it doesn't work for you? I'm sure they are perfectly fine for someone else.

I would go for the idea of not establishing alternate layouts, but opening the ability for people to map out your own controller. Personally I would like to separate the equipment and the weapon swap from the R2 button and even change the crouch from triangle to something else.
I figure if the guys on KB/M have these options available then those of us on the controller should also be afforded the same kind of opportunity. |

KB/M
WASD - duh as is / Also select spawn point. Arrow Keys/Num Pad - Right control stick movements, so we can actually select a spawn point and use vehicle modules with KB/M. 5 on numpad = R3 on control stick.
12345 - hotkeys for weapons/equip.
Also as I have a nostromo I would love to use in this game. Not sure if the extra buttons would work for anything as that may be a driver issue. Currently its mapped to the left hand side of a qwerty keyboard by default but as it only has three rows of keys, I cant change stance!

R1 - Shoot L1 - ADS R2 - Swap Between Main/Sidearm R2 - Swap Between Equipment/Grenades (would requre grenade rework so you take out grenades before throwing them.)
Keep X, Square, Triangle, and O the same. Select - Overview map Start - Game Menu / Scoreboard (Make scoreboard appear alongside the neocon options, would go away if you select a neocom menu.)
Right DPAD - Vehicle Deployment Up DPAD - Mute Mic, Mute All Players, Quick Change from Chat Channels Down DPAD - Squad Leader Commands Left DPAD - Call in Strikes / Support
R3 - Knife L3 - Sprint
I would say completely get rid of the spinny wheel of weapon selection... Its a little cumbersome.
Btw these are infantry controls. Huh, they ended up really similar to MAGs controls...That game influenced me way too much... Lol

Ultimately, I hope this is exactly what happens. Being a programmer, I know this isn't all that hard. Creating extra nanosecond latency is, however, risky on the control-response I'm sure. I'd love it if they were able to create usable base layouts for the masses and then let the custom layouts be created by those that wish to take the time. But if it causes too much lag on the client to make these translations, then so be it. I would like to believe the PS3/Unreal engine could handle this layer of abstraction though.
EDIT: I added this hoping that @CCP Wolfman see's it - mostly 'cause I'm curious about how they are doing it. :-) |

The more I think about it, the more I like this idea. You can even keep in the item wheel of death by holding in R2 or L2 and squad commands by holding in R2/L2 and pushing R3.
All they would need to add in is the animation of a character holding a grenade --- I am not sure how difficult that would be. |

Please don't half ass this. We need full customization not preset layouts.
Currently I use the Mouse and Nav controller combined. I cant move and jump at the same time since the X is used to jump and you cant press x on the nav controller and move at the same time. Also there is no mapping for the triangle since it only via keyboard.
Just give us full customized buttons and we can make any combination work and any player can set it to their own needs.
Also if you can let us use Mouse 4 and 5. 90% of mice have these buttons. By default you dont have to have them do anything but allow us to customize them to do things.

(much of this layout is taken from Battlefield 3, which feels good and has a similar level of complexity)
-Have triangle hot-swap weapons and one of the d-pad buttons toggle equipment (eliminating the wheel). -R3 crouch -R2 knife -everything else in default works pretty well for me so far but the d-pad probably needs work as I don't use it much yet.
Other thought: Do we need a push to talk button? most games I play do the auto detect if someone is talking. Admittedly you get the occasional idiot with their surround sound blasting or listening to music but that is what mute is for. Save that button for something else and make chatting hands free.

I really like the way Resistance used the weapon wheel.
Using triangle to switch between weapons and holding it to bring up the wheel of doom while using the left stick to select would be more comfortable.
Also, holding the square button to interact with objects, and then circle would be crouch. L2 for grenades and R2 for.....wait for it......
QUICK MESSAGE :D
Cycle through a circle of messages that would give your team a better understanding of what you need, also controlled with the left stick. Things such as Medic, Ammo, Vehicle Pickup, or Backup would work nicely.
Or they could just implement icons that would appear above someone's head if that person needed one of these things.
Edit:
Dropship controls:
L2 - Rise R2 - Lower Left stick - Forward/Back/Strafe Right Stick - Rotate Left/Right Pitch Up/Down Square - get in/out Circle - Pick up vehicle |

There is only a few changes to the controller layout that I would like to see (as optional of course).
Vehicle controls:
R2 - Acceleration L2 - Brake/reverse Left analog stick - left/right steering only
On-foot:
- Weapon wheel selection should be done with the left analog stick, not the right stick. Also it should be drag-and-drop, meaning I simply tap the analog stick in the direction of the weapon to highlight it, then release R2 to equip it. Right now it has to be held on the weapon prior to releasing R2, which is horribly inconvenient and awkward, especially if I am trying to quickly switch weapons because I don't have time to reload my main gun. I can't count how many times I have fumbled around with the weapon wheel trying to select my secondary weapon in a heated firefight, only to be killed because I was unable to select it in time.
- Also not too much a big deal, but crouch could be mapped to another button, perhaps circle. And then Triangle could be used for quick weapon swaps between main/secondary.
As for control mapping, that is all I can think of ATM. However I have yet to fly a dropship or use a tank. |

If this thread is still being looked at, it should be now obvious that customisable mapping is the best way forward. |
