We are glad that you are participating in our beta test and will do our best to improve on everything over time. Thank you! Its nice to see some feed back but please could you limit the feed back to the posts that deserve it. Im playing beta theres bug **shock horror*** b*tch and moan about stuff thats been said in a constuctive manner already never going to play again. The above style posts should just be ignored or better still deleted. The game can do with out people like this. The OP will never be happy until you give him unlimited HP and enough damage to 1 shot kill everyone on the map without having to aim at them. that way his ePeen can be proven with a high K/D ratio. In fact i'd go as far as banning these people from Beta as they dont seem to have any idea what its all about. @OP if you want a bug free game go and pick up a full release but good luck finding one bug free they're few and far between even years after release. Games companies really need to go back to the old skool before patching was wide spread where games had to be released bug free. But even then there were many many bugs in beta cos hey thats what a beta is for. If you really were so experienced in programming youd know how difficult it is to nail down a bug especially the types that cause client disconnects and hardware freezes you need 100's or 1000's of occurances before pattens can be seen in the diag's. The op has stated his opinion and feed back be it negative it is still valid would you rather all sing the praise of a great game and let it be released as is or would you rather have all feed back positive and negative to make a sub standard build into a working good game ?
exactly, just because op's point may be unpopular with people, doesn't mean it doesns't have a place here.
I stand behind op, i expect more in terms of the shooter side. Nobody wants to play a MMOFPS when the FPS isn't even correct. If I wanted the MMO, i'd just go play EVE. |

No way should a game be in dev for 3+ years and look like an be a alpha in beta clothing! With supposed ex-DICE on the games shooter side. Horrible micro transaction model that screams P2W.
Planetside 2 is a beta in alpha clothing! Sony if youre smart you'll either let the devs for planetside 2 make MAG 2 or down grade ps2 for a console port!
PS2 has the same microtransaction model as DUST just an FYI Regis and PS2 is meh tbh
On topic...thought this thread was locked earlier.....good to see the devs reopen it as the OP did nail some very valid points that the fanboys here just dont wanna hear.

I think there are some very valid points here. However, I have to preface with: A lot of things were changed in the Precursor build, which means they're going to be worse before they're better. Things are almost always worse before they're better. I noticed a lot of things got broken with the latest build, not the least of which was connectivity issues. Those will need to be fixed before the launch. If they're not, then yes, CCP is shooting itself in the foot.
One reason things are a lot less advanced than you'd think after 3 years is because so much is different on the back end. You have to set the foundations before you put on the roof. Maybe interactivity with EVE sounds like the roof to you. It's not. It has to go into the foundations. If you want players to be able to modify the map, that has to go into the foundations. Everything you want your players' skills to affect has to go into the foundation. What did they spend 3 years doing? Well, in all likelihood they spent 2 years not building a shooter, but the foundations for a complex MMO. I don't know this, but I suspect it just based on my experience building complex, extensible platforms.
Hit detection. I haven't noticed nearly as many problems as you have, which probably means it's not bad so much as buggy. File bug reports when this happens and we'll see it get worked out.
Minimap. I do think there are problems with this. The "dropsuit command" skill is supposed to serve as a stealth mechanism, but it needs to be disrupted more easily. Big heavy assault vehicles should pretty much always be obvious; logistics vehicles not so much. Firing a weapon should give you away. I haven't seen many threads about this one, but I think it's an important improvement.
Spawning. Needs tweaking. It's really variable but not at all unfixable, and it's a problem that really seems to have been introduced in this build, so at this point they've had less than a week to fix it. This has been discussed in many other threads.
Tank/AV balance. I agree completely. At low levels, it's pretty easy for a militia swarm launcher to kill a militia vehicle. At high levels, a tank is a much, much safer purchase than an equivalent spend on AV weapons. This is being discussed in many other threads.
One last thing: Please try to keep it civil and don't go insulting the people who make the game. There's a lot to improve, but these people are working hard at it. And it's rare, especially at this stage, to fix anything without breaking anything. Patience, please. Everyone have patience. |

Ok, letGÇÖs make them very expensive. Sounds fair. But wait, thereGÇÖs more! LetGÇÖs make everything so expensive, that when a talk does show up, everybody will only afford a militia swarm launcher, so the tank driver can just laugh and steamroll everyone. Kinda like they did before, right? Quoting the forums: GÇ£I think you don't see a lot of higher tier AV weapons because of how expensive they are, and how much easier to lose the isk then you are in a high tier tank right now.GÇ¥ Btw, I'll give you a beer if you tell me you've read this sentence. You stated that a new player should be able to pick up the controller and start playing DUST. HOW THE **** IS ONE SUPPOSED TO DO THAT, WHEN YOU HAVE PEOPLE SPAWNING OP TANKS AND ALL YOU HAVE IS A POTATO SLINGSHOT?
Reading through the forums I see that you only got 2 builds before the big release. The last build made everything prettier and fixed nothing. In this rhythm, youGÇÖll be the laughing stock when DUST gets released. YouGÇÖd think that a company like CCP that went through the monocle fiasco with EVE would have learned how to make games by now. Another quote GÇ£u would think that from 2009 the foundation and core mechanics would be the 1st **** they worked onGÇ¥. You would think wrong. Apparently lens flare and aurum are way more important.
How do you think youGÇÖll ever make DUST a successful FPS if you canGÇÖt even get the core mechanics working AFTER SO MUCH DEVELOPMENT TIME. I wonder how you even started working on DUST. Did you try and make the models and textures first, then thought you should add flares and bloom and shortly before the first beta came out, thought it would be a good idea to do the shooting mechanics? Honestly. Look at Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. First they made sure that every bullet lands where it should every ******* time. Then they started adding guns and tweaking them. Your response to the dozens of posts complaining about tanks being unbalanced? Add another tank. Who the **** approves this kind of decisions?

It's all about the way you frame it. If you're posting to say DUST is terrible and everything about it is stupid and sub-par and it's so bad it can't be fixed, what are you trying to discuss? Try framing it as, "I think there's a fundamental problem here that we should look at, it's a lot of work to fix it but I think it's crucial to the game." |

Until it's as good as crappy games like say cell factor ; psycokinetic wars, we can fully expect post like this and they are valid. Especially from someone who played in the fanfest tournament. I can get behind this. Would you like me to send you my CV? Maybe a picture of some trophies and medals? This is by no means a way to show off. I included that information so you know that it's not another 14 year old posting about how he can't kill heavies with only one shot.
Dzark Kill wrote:The OP will never be happy until you give him unlimited HP and enough damage to 1 shot kill everyone on the map without having to aim at them. that way his ePeen can be proven with a high K/D ratio.
Far from the truth. I did not complain that I suck at the game, actually I don't, I've been top 3 every match since the Precursor patch. I even have a thread where I'm a strong advocate for removing the K/D ratio and replacing it with objective points, kills and assists etc.
I am complaining about how the development is going. Adding features over broken mechanics, without a solid foundation is not the way to go. And someone said that the foundation should be the link to EVE. Yes and no. First and foremost, this is an FPS. Where people shoot each other and expect them to die if they empty a clip between their eyes. Starting this project without any prior experience and not getting the core FPS elements right is a huge mistake. You can not build on something that masquerades as an FPS when you still haven't ironed out hit detection.
This is a beta yes. But a beta should already have the first step completed and running, which is the FPS part. A stage where you don't even have the simplest of things working is called an alpha. Sure, a disconnect here, a bug there, a crash there, it's all good. But after 3 years of development, it's unforgivable that you still have hit detection problems, yet the graphics are more beautiful than they need to be.
I know I've pissed a lot of people today with this thread, but if things don't take a turn for the best, I'm afraid this won't end well for CCP. No matter how cool orbital strikes will be. I love CCP and I love the concept of DUST. I just don't see it leading anywhere good if the devs don't refocus on what's important.
P.S: thank you kind sir dev/gm who unlocked this thread. Pardon me for my tone but it was with good intentions. |

What I meant about the foundation was that there are so many things that need to be in place technically before you can really start building out even what you see as the core gameplay--or maybe it would be more appropriate to say, things that need to be built alongside the core gameplay. So to say they've had 3 years to make it a good shooter, isn't really being fair to what they're trying to do. They've been laying the foundation for a shooter that they won't just release and forget, but something that will evolve just like EVE evolves. That in itself takes more time than just making another shooter.
Immortiano Dranon wrote:I know I've pissed a lot of people today with this thread, but if things don't take a turn for the best, I'm afraid this won't end well for CCP. There are threads where a lot of these things are being discussed. I think your post has produced some results, but I think these other threads will get better results because they're not crying "fix this!" so much as they're developing better pictures of the problems.
As much as I dislike people just posting on this forum to bash DUST development, I think the frustration that's expressed about many of these core elements reaches the devs. It's no secret that there's a lot of room for improvement, and I'm glad you pointed out where you see that possibility. Even if I do think there are better ways to do it. |

To be honest I didn't even bother reading the rest of your post because of the quick biography you put. The fact that you bothered to write it before your "argument" just shows that you think because of your background, your opinion is more valid than anyone else on this forum. That only proves how much of a d-bag you are, but why stop there, lets dissect your post further and see how clueless you really are...
I have played video games since forever. Right away your grasp of time makes me question whether anything you're about to say is actually true or if your just some punk kid talking out of his ass.
IGÇÖve played EVE since 2004. So? You might as well have said you've played WoW since 2004. The sentence would have had the same impact. The only advantage that you had is that you probably grasped the UI faster than most. I played EVE for 2 month and I grasped it just fine, so you wasted a few years.
I have played professional Counter-Strike 1.6 and Team Fortress 2. I have a hard time understanding why you think either games matter. The only thing they have in common with DUST is that they are first person shooters. You're as bad as a hard core Call of Duty player who thinks that any shooter that isn't like CoD sucks, and if it is like CoD well it will obviously never be as good.
I'm am also going to go off on a bit of a limb and assume you don't take losing well. It is rare that MLG gamers do.
I am one of the 24 people who won the DUST tournament at this yearGÇÖs EVE Fanfest. So you were good at the game back when barely anyone had played it, but now you are in the beta and getting your ass kicked by people who have been playing it for months. That must mean the game is crappy, right?
I am a programmer First off, considering how you have composed yourself with your rant on CPP's BETA its obvious you're not a game programmer. So right away I know you have no real idea what it takes to program a major video game. Secondly, as a game programmer (still learning) I know it takes a lot of time and dedication to be a good programmer. I also know that it takes the same amount of time and dedication to be a MLG gamer (from watching interviews with actual MLG gamers), which you claimed earlier. So this can only mean one of two things... 1) You are full of crap. 2) You have absolutely no life, which gives you the time you need to master both.
and IGÇÖve worked at companies much larger than CCP. So quantity over quality? Just because your worked at a company with more programmers means.... actually you didn't even say that it was a company with more programmers. So for all I know you program McDonald's cash registers.
IGÇÖve been in betas and even alphas before.. It is weirder if you have never been in an alpha or a beta before. Every member of PlayStation Plus has been invited to multiple betas, just in this past year.
My conclusion, you good sir, are the joke. |

OP is right on a lot of points. If Dust really has 2 builds before it's ready than CCP needs to step up and start working on the core factors and stop adding in features to hide them. The game is lacking in a lot of points and game play mechanics is one of the big ones it's lacking in. The shooter aspect is highly broken in the game and needs to be looked at. The mini map is unless. Hit detection is better but needs a lot of work still. Only people that think the game is going good is fanboys lying to themselves wanting the game to be good. |

This guy does present some valid points. I love this game, but will be first to admit it has a lot of issues, but CCP is working on it. This game is so complex that if they fixed a bit, then added some more, we'd be here forever. Best get some of the more complex bits into the game and looking to see how that has effected it in terms of bugs. I never had any problems with crashes or freezing or that bug where all your fits become invalid until the most recent build. Plus, if I remember correctly, the mini-map isn;t supposed to show where every single enemy is as it does in other games via some form of magic, here there are explanations for everything. Our minimaps are a part of our TACNET, and detect other players, but not all of them. I think you can, or will at some point, be able to get modules/skills that increase your detection ability, and others that make you harder to detect. The only things I think it should be able to detect regardless are tanks and dropships if they are within a certain distance of you, as they are pretty hard to miss, and the overview map seen when issuing squad orders should show everything, so you can issue orders accordingly. |

Nobody cares that ooooooo i won tournaments. I could easily go on about bragging rights for tournament play. Were here to talk about fixing the game not bashing it and complaining about a FREE game. So shut up and say what should be fixed and what they could add.
Just so you know I never played Eve. I just thought this would be something different to play instead of cod.. lol BF3 is still better by the way.
F2P must never be a reason to make a less good game. CCP will deliver I am sure, If you look what they improved on this build, I am really looking forward to the next in september. |

The problem with saying they're "adding features" to "hide" flaws is that the features already exist, they're just in successive builds. We all knew there would be EVE tie-ins and orbital strikes and all that. I've played some of these games where they just ride roughshod over the problems while they develop new features, and that's obviously not what's happening here. They're rolling out features because they need to get rolled out at some point and they've either accomplished what they were trying to achieve testing the previous build, or (as I suspect it is with Precursor) they have to roll out certain features on a certain timeline for specific reasons. Putting DUST on the Singularity server is a big enough deal that I expect it dictated the timing of the Precursor rollout.
Anyway, my point is that it's only been a week since the newest build was rolled out, let's not jump to conclusions that they're not listening to us when we say there are really basic things that need to get fixed. Precursor was a big jump that created a lot of bugs that didn't exist in the last build, and those seem to be getting resolved.
Hit detection is a bug. Needs to get fixed. Period.
I don't understand the whole "mini-map is useless" argument, other than showing the objectives around the edges as the OP suggested (good idea). Sure it can be frustrating, but once you understand the idea behind detecting your enemies based on their signature, it actually provides a really interesting dynamic that will become tactically useful as more skills and equipment are rolled out. (On the other hand, that still takes forever for a new player to figure out. It's not intuitive that your signature corresponds to your slipperiness on the mini-map radar, and it's not a convention that exists in any other game including EVE in my experience.) |

Vehicles, especially HAVs and dropships, should never be able to get such a small signature that you can't detect them from across the map. HAVs are still dropping off my radar from 20m away, which is ridiculous. Dropships maybe, if you get really high and have a low-profile dropship, but never tanks.
Not sure that you should be able to see everything on the overview map, but what if you get collected data from all your subordinates? That way you can at least see everything that your squad sees, without having a way to get around stealth mechanisms. And you have enough data to make a decision without having all the data. |

Look at the mini map in Counter-Strike: Source. It's amazing. When any of your teammates spots an enemy, it shows on the map. If your teammate dies, it shows as a blue X for a few seconds. If an enemy dies, it shows as a red X for a few seconds. If you're out of range of these events they will be shown at the edge of the minimap.
If you hide behind a corner and nobody sees you, you DON'T show on the map. Ever. It makes perfect sense. Why can a tank see me, when i can't see it? Also, splash damage through walls is ludicrous.
As for adding more features before existing ones are polished, I understand this kind of work flow [1], but CCP is doing it way too fast. Fix the big bus before you roll out a new feature, do some regression testing ffs. You're rushing the development to meet a certain deadline. There should never have been a deadline in the first place. That way you could implement a feature, polish it, iterate on it, then build on it. Not put out 10 features, break the previous 5, add another 2 and hope for the best.
As someone said in another thread, "this is a beta" ain't cutting it anymore. It never even reached the state of beta. We're still in a glorified alpha.
