By console gamer, I mean someone who puts in most of their gaming hours on a console but still plays some games on a pc.
Two things I think: 1) The PC is a superior platform
2) PC players should not be able to use a mouse in DUST.
The first is a statement of fact. The second is a statement of opinion, don't get the two mixed up Edited.
A mouse clearly blows a gaming pad out of the water when it comes to accuracy. No amount of nerfing to the mouse controls on a ps3 will make it fair to gamers who use a game pad. Either the controls won't be nerfed enough and pc gamers will still have a huge advantage OR it will be nerfed too much and pc gamers will be unhappy.
No mice for pc gamers. It's been done before, and the pc gamers annihilated console gamers. For the sake of my sorry ass, don't do it.

The first statement is a statement of fact given how technology and game development has improved over the decades. Before now, PCs were superior to consoles. Now consoles are able to play your movies, your games, browse the internet, and shop online. Practically everything a PC can do. The only difference is how they are upgraded. |

What about my R.A.T. 7 mouse and G11 KB? If CCP breaks their PROMISE and does not implement KB+M, then my KB+M will keep collecting DUST(Pun intended )
sorry I just remembered CS GO is coming to PC so I will use my KB+M on PS3 |

PC is superior from a technical standpoint is what I was referring to I guess.
I still hold by my point that no amount of attempted balance between a mouse and a gaming pad will actually work. Mark my words. |

PS Move is console equivalent of mouse at the moment, and somehow that's balanced in other console FPSs (Killzone 3/Resistance 3, etc.). When they smooth out the PS Move controls, will you argue that PS Move controls shouldn't be supported? It offers more precise aiming controls than an analog stick, by far. |

Then how do you explain PS Move? Isn't that the equivalent of a mouse for a console? Even though it is crap right now in Dust, it will be formidable once the bugs have been ironed out. |

It won't because there is no counter for combating superior controls. Whether KBM dominates DS3 or vice versa. Adapt or die does not apply here.
Considering the bulk of players will be using DS3, it would be smart from a business standpoint to cater to the DS3 users more. It will be near impossible to perfectly balance KB/M vs DS3 but if your going to try, your better of taking the safer route.

I don't understand. Why do all the PC gamers say adapt or die. If they don't add Mouse and Keyboard the Eve players say they won't play DUST. Why can't the EVE players adapt to the consoles primary operating device. You might say it's a PC at heart and while I can't argue it isn't But the vast majority of ppl will not use mice and keyboard giving the minority the advantage.

I don't see why people think it's so bad that Dust will have KBM. Have you ever tried plugging a mouse and keyboard into your PS3 in XBM? You know what you can do? You can control the PS3, with a mouse, and a keyboard. It works, perfectly fine. This is not CCP adding KBM to the PS3, it's just them making a function that is readily available on the PS3, available in game as well.
The PS3 is in fact a computer, the only difference between it, and the Windows/Mac PC's people play EVE on, is that it has a different operating system. That's it.
I don't understand why people have this major issue with using the superior controls for FPS games. "Oh no, KBM is better than my dualshock, I'm gonna ***** and moan about how it's not fair to have it included in this game." I have a news-flash for you all - everyone can use KBM! That's right, it isn't limited to only a few players!
If Dust didn't implement KBM as a natural control option, I would've ordered myself an Eagle Eye, and I would be using KBM anyway. Honestly, I'd rather have it available to everyone, than know that the only reason I'm winning is because I bought an Eagle Eye.
Edit: For the record, I've been a console gamer all my life. Started on the N64, then the Dreamcast, Gamecube, Xbox, Xbox 360, and now, my PS3.
The majority of my PC gaming was GunZ: The Duel for a few months(TPS), then WoW, StarCraft, EVE, and League Of Legends. I am by no means a "PC Elitist" as I have been labeled a few times on these forums. |

I see where your coming from but the fact of the manner is your wanting to play DUST the same as you would on a PC/MAC. This game was designed for a ps3. Not a PC. And they do have a better control scheme. Do you not remember that one game where you could play with PC gamers on a X-Box. Who always won. Guess. The PC gamer due to the fact they had a Mouse and Keyboard. It's not limited to a few players, but people on ps3 don't want to learn how to use a KBM just to compete with the people already used to it.

And yes I used to play with a mouse and keyboard as i used to be a PC gamer. The fact of the matter is, most players that want to be "Hardcore" and actually involved in the spreadsheets, and politics, and economy of the EVE universe, are probably going to be the ones using KBM. The ones that want to casually play for rankings on the leaderboards, will be the ones using a gamepad. This is a generalization, possibly a stereotype, but it is relatively accurate and there is no arguing that. There will be exceptions to this.
Now, what does that mean? Well, the spreadsheets, and politics, and economy, will largely be in Null-sec, so all the "Hardcore" KBM players will be out there, fighting wars, and negotiating, away from those on the gamepad. Sure there will be some gamepad users in Null-sec, but I would be willing to bet they will be all of the Pilots - tanks, dropships, jets, LAV's - as vehicles are much easier to control with a joystick vs. WASD.
The gamepad users, will be in High-sec where they have already announced that a match-making system will be in place, so high skill (rank?) players will not be matched with low skill (rank?) players. All of the players that are using KBM in the match-making games, will probably be rated much higher than the gamepad users, and as such they will not generally get placed together, and this wont be an issue. Assuming of course that the match-making system works, and isn't absolutely random like in CoD.
Low-sec will probably be a bit of a melting pot.
Each control scheme will find a home in this game, and if CCP has to gimp KBM to help it find it's home, I will be very disappointed - mostly in the community, but partially CCP. |

I play almost all of my games on a console these days, but the PC is superior. There is nothing you can do on a console that you can't do on a PC. There are things you can do on a PC that you can't do on a console. That makes it superior. The PC does everything a console does, and does it better and can do more.
Consoles are simpler, cheaper, and have other benefits, but if you compare their capabilities, PCs are superior. |

2 things.
1) A "gaming PC", with appropriate hardware (CPU/GRU), is superior to any console not a "PC." Also: Quote:The advantages of a fixed architecture in a console mean that developers target the specific strengths of the GPU, inevitably producing results that punch above their weight compared to the same hardware running on PC. -Digital Foundry In any case the video quality & performance achieved by consoles, whit 5 years old architectures, are amazing. On PS3 this is more evident then ever thanks to all our spectacular exclusives.
2)Aiming with mouse is more accurate/precise because you use your entire arm, forearm, wrist, palm, and fingers to control it...and frankly how could it not. We on analog sticks use 1 finger to aim. PSMove is also a more accurate controller because you use 2 arms but minimal movements don't give you maximum results as on the mouse: a wrist tilt is enough to move your cursor all across the screes with he mouse but can you do that whit Move? No, simply because PSMove is almost a life-size replica of a gun and so size will always "handicap" it compared to the mouse. |

You have to be kidding me! .. Demoting DS3 players to being nothing more than casual gamers, I find that offending in every way. So just because I dont want to have a M/K sitting in my living room, I wont get the full experience of the game. I could try to get the full experience, but would have my ass handed to me in every match I play.. no way, I rather not play at all. Dust is not the holy grail of FPS.. while I think its an interesting setup, being connected to EVE and all, its not gonna ruin my day if I dont get to play it..
What you are saying is that if anyone wanna compete with the big-boys you have to use M/K.. A control mechanism NOT native to the platform. Now I dont know what CCP has planed regarding M/K, but if the outcome is anything like you describe, I will not be among the players of this game.
My opinion on this M/K vs DS3 issue is clearly that all the PC FPS players who wants to play Dust cant or wont adapt to using a DS3. I've been playing FPS on consols for years and I dont see the problem at all. DS3 is the primary controller of the PS3, so use it, or go for the Sharp-Shooter (Move), other successful games like Resistance and Killzone have not supported M/K so why CCP feels obligated to do so, I dont know.
The game will never work if M/K and DS3 players are allowed to play in the same match. UnrealT for PS3 didn allow it either, simply because it will give and unfair advantage no matter how you view it. CCP can nerf M/K all they want.. and in the end PC gamers will whine about the M/K experience not being the same as a PC FPS experience. The only sane choice would be to not to include M/K at all, and let the game live within the restrictions of the platform. |

When it comes down to the political game in Null-sec where the game gets SERIOUS you can bet the ones with assets on the line will be Adapting.
And by adapting I mean buying an Eagle Eye or configuring GIMX to give them every advantage they can get. You can scream, yell, whine, cry, and quit. In the end, it won't matter because it WILL happen.
So whether CCP implements KB+M or not, unless you stick to pub stomping you WILL face groups of people using it against you at some point. |

The first is a statement of fact. The second is a statement of opinion, don't get the two mixed up retards.

Im a long time eve player. I intend to be involved in dust. I WILL use a mouse and keyboard. There are several solutions available including the eagle eye. If ccp does not implement kb&m or nerds it at all, ill throw money down for the best 3rd party solution available.
It will likely cost $100 or so. That's fine by me. If kb&m isn't implemented by ccp, then only a smaller subset of players will have full access to it. In fact i bet that there are some people who hope that kb&m isn't in game so they can be at an advantage over even more players.
By the way, how do you hardcore console players hold onto that tiny thing? Are you all small handed freaks? The ds3 is sized to fit in the hands of a ten year old girl. My hands ACHE after an hour... |

And as to the post right before your post I quoted here, CCP doesn't need to support keyboard and mouse (which has already been confirmed and is coming in the next build, whether you like it or not; thankfully CCP usually ignores whiners), devices like Eagle Eye do an amazingly accurate job of translating keyboard and mouse inputs to controller inputs, and the game is none the wiser. There's a reason they cost as much as they do, and they're worth every penny. You can bet your ass that many serious players in games without mouse support use them all the time. |

Actually if they give PC users the advantage by allowing them to use KB+M then the game will fail. As a basic FPS it's really nothing special. People will not want to just play normal games and spend weeks grinding to get better armour or what not. New people will not stick around due to it taking so long to catch up to those who have been playing longer. If they cater more to the PC users then the console they may as well of just made it on PC. |

You need to learn to read.
KB+M is being used in EVERY SINGLE FPS ON THE PS3 RIGHT NOW.
It doesn't matter if it gets officially implemented or not, because they are already being used and will continue to be used (there is no real way to stop it).
The cat has been out of the bag for a while now and for some reason most PS3 users are in denial about it.
Time for a "SHANKY PRO-TIP" - do a google search on the following terms and then think about whether you have been getting owned by M+KB players already.

The only time a mouse really makes a difference in a fight is if you're both evenly matched and evenly skilled, and happen to see each other at the same instant. The other 99% of the time, ****** players will die, good players will kill, and the guy who saw you first has the edge. The difference is that by allowing decent controls, you eliminate bad controls as a factor in fights.
There are people better with controllers than mice, and vice versa. That's fine, use the control method that works best for you. But denying keyboard and mouse support is actually far more unabalancing for the simple fact that it puts otherwise good players at a massive disadvantage. If you allow both, good players can simply be good players, without having to overcome an unfamiliar (and inferior) control method.
Finally, as has already been mentioned, refusing the support (that is coming in the next patch, so quit now if you're so terrified of mice) will have no effect other than simply concentrating mice in the hands of those willing to drop the money on an Eagle Eye, which they will. Proper support like we're getting ensures that ANYONE can cheaply and easily use the controls of their choice.
EDIT: Worth pointing out that there's already people using the Eagle Eye and others with Dust 514, so you're already getting pwnt by mouse users |

I think they actually did make it on the pc. Then Sony came along with the big Checkbook. Since it was developed on unreal engine they could flip it to ds3 without any rework. My bet is that it'll be available on pc 1Day after the Sony exclusive deal expires. |

I'm a gamer, and i'm usually a PC gamer when it comes to shooters. Despite this, I do have a bunch of shooters to my PS3. Because, even though I like it or not - there are some games that are really damn fun on PS3 that doesn't exist on PC. Still, I have to adapt to their sense of playing and those players way of fighting. Because some of them might just own a PS3. Therefore, i'm all for the thought that PC players might just have to adapt, because this is a PS3 game. Not a PC game. But it's intertwined with a PC game. And that's frikkin' awesome.
On the other hand, I really can't argue against having KB+M added so that more players might find interest in this game. Thing is for most - if you die a lot and remain a crappy shooter in this sort of game, it won't be fun. At all. I, for one, may just love it because it's in the EVE universe and i'm a sci-fi nerd almost without equal.
Summarized: Bring forth the KB+M and get more players. Or make it a console game for consolers, and witness awesome warfare in any case (with maybe less immortal soldiers). |

It was originally going to be 360 + PS3, but MSFT's policies and rules were too ridiculous and restrictive, whereas Sony's policies on the PS3 have been about as open as console gaming has ever been (except for the as-yet-unreleased Ouya), and so it became exclusive. There hasn't been any real mention of an actual exclusivity deal, it's simply a PS3 exclusive by default since it's the only (console) platform that could handle it and that was open enough to let them make their game how they want. |

In your average pub game, kbm vs gamepad might not matter as much. However, as someone has already mentioned, it will be in the higher levels of play that this will make a difference.
A mouse can move much more quickly with much more accuracy than thumbsticks. So if two players of equal skill level and equipment are fighting, the kbm player will almost always win.
CCP is porting this game to PS3 so they can gain a larger audience and possibly appeal to a larger market. So why is it a good idea for them to cater specifically to the EVE players? The whole purpose was to tap into the console fps gamers to add a new dimension to EVE universe.
If EVE players are allowed to have their mice, console players might not stick around because they are getting owned constantly in what would otherwise be an even fight.
The only catering to EVE players that should be done is in properly integrating DUST with the EVE universe. |

The first statement is a statement of fact given how technology and game development has improved over the decades. Before now, PCs were superior to consoles. Now consoles are able to play your movies, your games, browse the internet, and shop online. Practically everything a PC can do. The only difference is how they are upgraded. PC is superior from a technical standpoint is what I was referring to I guess. I still hold by my point that no amount of attempted balance between a mouse and a gaming pad will actually work.
