Clutter threads have always been a problem on any forum, ever. On a fully launched game its a neccessary evil. But in a beta forum where feedback is much more essential, allowing these posters to continue rampant creation of trash posts is a bad idea. Overmoderation is not the answer, having a billion locked/deleted threads doesn't really solve anything. Banning them is usually uncalled for as their violations aren't that serious, either.
I'd like to see the option for the people who consistently have their posts reported to simply not be able to post for X amount of time when one of the moderators deems it needed, and having this feature tied to any character/account created with the same PS3 ID. The person would still be able to read the forums and keep up to date on what people are discussing and read important announcements. If people work around the 'mute', to keep posting trash then it could be banworthy.
This would help keep the forums clean, and easier to read for proper feedback, and provides an option for moderators to deal with 'problem posters' without being harsh and banning them when it isn't necessary. |

Agreed, the trash is piling up and pushing the threads worth seeing off the front page. Something needs to be done. I honestly don't care if they get banned for spam threads, since the people who do that aren't generally contributing elsewhere in a constructive manner anyway. |

So you're saying I shouldn't make a thread about how I have more ISK than everyone else and if I do I should be banned?
But I have pages and pages of stuff I wanted to say, broken down into three parts.
- How ISK rules everything around me.
- How proto-suit users are only "Minmatar rich"
- How poor people are gross.
The community needs to hear about these things - they deserve to hear about these things.
This thread is an outrage. |

I avoid the forums because of all the garbage post. Its useless posting anything good here because it gets buried by derp. |

well i agree, that there are quite some threads that are rage inducing, so if it helps keeping the forum cleaner for beta . . . Although it would mean extra work for everyone, what if some fancy guy decide to report every post you made just for "the lulz"? |

How about putting "moderated only" mode where new topics can only show up after a mod has read it and approved it? That'd save them more work moderating unruly discussions. |

'Moderated only' mode would mean they need to read and approve the threads, thus creating more work for the moderators. It's easier if they just have the option to click to deny post creation for a few days or so when they are handling a reported post! |

I was under the impression that a moderator's job was to read all the topics anyway in order to moderate discussions and close flames/spam before it goes out of hand. |

Yes. The problem is that closing/locking threads is not really a solution, it's a stopgap measure. Banning people is a solution but it's far too harsh in 9/10 cases. A locked/deleted thread is not really a consequence. Not being able to post is a consequence.
Consequences (most of the time) are a deterrant to prevent unwanted actions. Proportional punishments of violations are important. You can't/shouldn't ban someone for breaking the smallest of rules when a slap on the wrist would probably put them off the behavior from then on. If they are a repeat offender, after having previous warnings or forum mutes then well... A ban might be necessary.
It's important to reiterate these restricitons should only be in place during the beta. Flaming/Trolling is a part of an online community and shouldn't be overmoderated except in extreme cases. But in a beta where feedback is massively more important than after full launch, having the first few pages of the forum cluttered by trash threads being continually bumped and recreated if locked just creates more work for both the community and the people who's job it is to read every thread. |

They already do. Moderating new topics before they show up would greatly reduce the spam at a negligible cost of causing topics to appear on the next day. |
